I began playing about three months ago on my PC (1.8.1) and I love it. I know i'm late to the game, but hey we were all noobs once. Anyway, I recently got a 360 and was thinking about picking up MC for it. I know there are limitations on console Vs. PC versions (limited world size, redstone mechanics not as up to date, not as many block types, etc) but are there any advantages a console version would have over the PC?
Not trying to sound like a cheapskate since I know MC is only 20 bucks for the 360, but i'd rather not spend 20 bucks just to be disappointed. I bought Minecraft PE for my phone (I have a Lumia windows phone) the day it came out, only to find out that there's no redstone, no nether, yada yada. I don't even play it because it's missing so much compared to the PC.
So for the TL;DR crowd, do people mainly play minecraft on consoles because nearly everyone has a 360 or PS3 but not everyone has a PC that can run minecraft decently, or are there other reasons that would make a console version appealing to a PC player?
I did that, played MC first on PC then tried xbox 360. I couldn't do it. Most frustrating thing I've done in years, prob because I've always had pc's, never consoles, so the controller and lack of keyboard drove me wild. So I let the kids use it now and ignore the stupid thing.
It is more frustrating but I find it a lot easier to play with friends on the xbox. Servers aren't as customisable on xbox but if you're just looking for some real casual fun then xbox is probably the way to go. My friends who I play with on xbox aren't really into modding the game and experimenting with the game so for them xbox is more than enough.
Well you're very limited when it comes to modding and such. Not to mention it's very frustrating going from a keyboard to controller. I wouldn't recommend it on console to anyone, but that's just me.
Hello I would say it is up to what you want/need. I personally find the ps3/xbox360 worlds a little too small for my single player survival but for making mini-games and then playing them with friends or just over all playing with friends is very fun and easy with ps3/xbox360.
Here is my list of advantages and disadvantages of ps3/xbox360 minecraft
Advatages
1. Easy multilayer with friends that also own minecraft xbox360 edition.
2. Smooth game-play (Usually no lag on ps3/xbox360 )
3. Easier to play comfortably for long gaming sessions . (A controller is much more comfortable than a keyboard and mouse)
Disadvantages
1. Texture packs and skins cost money. (You can play with a texture pack but you cant save then)
2. No modding
3. Limited world size (If you don’t plan to play on a single world permanently then limited world size shouldn’t be a problem)

Thanks in advance for any input.

That is it! Good luck with deciding!
If you want to use splitscreen with controllers on PC:

EDIT: I should mention it probably only works on MSWindows.
