I see no reason to why it got removed

What do you mean you can still get it with /give

/give @p minecraft:nether_wart

"Block ID 115 (nether wart) was removed from the /give command." - wiki

That's the Block ID.

There is also the ITEM ID, which is 372.

You can STILL give your self the nether_wart Item, but no longer the Block.
