Exactly at least you can see the idea of what I'm saying. Let's all just hope and pray that , that's their plan. Plus for those Xbox users. Instead of it getting handed off to Microsoft, Microsoft will automatically and instantly have the updated so in hopes that updates for any Xboxs their updates can go smooth along with others change now that the game plan has changed because Microsoft owns Minecraft now. Best of luck to the future updates and Microsoft.
This is probably what is going to happen.
They will keep the current staff and add more members to take some of the pressure off of them. This may make for quicker updates, and having them be more stable. It may also mean they will be able to actually get out the mod API and optimize the game to make things like Optifine not necessary.
I'd like to see them hire LexManos (MinecraftForge developer), it would be good for his wallet and good for the mod api
You managed to decompile and continue without me giving source code? O_O Bro, you are a god. Of course do whatever the [REDACTED] you want!!!! Good luck on it
The more crappy content they try to "fill" the game up with, the more diluted the gameplay is gonna be. If MS messes up, things will be bad for them, and besides, people are raging over this to begin with.
Gameplay? What gameplay? We're talking about a game where developers add a random feature and then players use them in every way possible as long as it isn't the way the coders intended. It's all about emergent gameplay, since beta everything was as random as it gets.
I'm not only talking about simple non-game changing features (such as the armor stand: none uses it as an actual armor stand), I'm especially talking about core mechanics. It's a huge nonsensical mess. I could write pages on the subject, but it would definitely be OT.
The game can't be more "diluted" than it is. What could they possible do to dilute it? More block, ores, mobs, tools and so on? It would be about friggin' time. The worst they could do is changing nothing, because this game can be financially successful and popular amongst kiddies but as a game in itself is already becoming the past. Did you notice how many, diverse sandbox voxel games are being developed as we speak, both Indie and AAA?
If any of you are willing to put in the effort to stop complaining and read Microsoft's announcement, you'd see that they strongly implied that mods would stay. They promised us even better development tools. What does the community have to do with development? Mods, people. Calm yourselves.

Wedhro, KrushBro..... good on you guys. MC desperately needs to change from it's current boredom and you guys see the (positive) possibilities.
It's funny that all those who are whaling and gnashing their teeth ("Oh no! Minecraft is gonna change!") are the same ones asking for change ("When's the next update coming out? I can't wait!") Sheesh, make up your mind, people.
give it time, but right now microsoft will do nothing for a year, near the beginning or end of the first year and start of the 2nd look at how minecraft will suddenly start getting faster updates on the microsoft platform, primarily windows os's, and then their consoles, they'll start out first with windows os faster updates because thats easier to code, and faster. They'll give more dev teams to work under jeb and the staff that stayed behind.
Another 4-6 months will pass before the minecraft series starts seeing less and less updates kept "current" with all platforms. As this happens during this time, microsoft will slowly begin to crack down on modders, or at least the ones who are not on "windows" platforms only. This will not be a public thing. Also microsoft may try to squeak in the fact that minecraft will be strictly locked to online requirements meaning we wont see newer updated versions past the 0.8 series having availability to have name based servers (aka cracked servers) even for legitimate owners. If so expect premiums to suddenly start cropping up, possibly restricting our server hosting capabilities to strictly pay to host. Meaning no more free hosts.
Now thats the future i predict, given that 2 year time frame, were also going to look at alot of much more improvements like faster updates but... given microsofts history and TOS changes behind the "consumers" back we should expect to also see more aggressive minecraft sales tactics (they halfta make up that 2.5billion expense right?)
So during this 2 year time frame, we'll give it "maybe" 3-4 months tops even earlier im thinking when we start seeing minecraft advertisements everywhere, more merchandise, and probably more "custom skins" for products like phones, and what not coming out, but this time licensed by microsoft. Just another way to milk the cash cow. It will get worse as time goes on, unless the team left incharge for the minecraft project is left intact and kept up with in being given the right to make decisions that directly influence any core changes, or enhancements made to minecraft and its future.
We know the team will stay loyal to the community but the problem is they cant bite the hand that feeds them, they can only have so much leverage, and thats where the communitys really going to come into play. Microsoft is going to see a rapid decline of the more hardcore modders, and user basis initially and then the community slowly trickle back in and gain pace again, this is where and when they will increase their sales during the return of old timers as well as new comers.
Now this is going to be a confusing spin but during this first 6month period were going to see code optimized slowly landsliding towards microsoft based coding, who knows the code may see a overhaul in the beginning of the 2nd year or near the mid/end year of 2015-2016. This maybe the time when a minecraft 2 will surface and thats when alota people will initially leave. This game will then most likely have a replacement with the idea of "inspired by minecraft" but its not minecraft sorta ordeal. I wouldn't be surprised their.
As for the mobile platforms, expect ps vita to be delayed further (microsoft?) or truly cleaning up the code in the ps vita (?) {PS vita is basically a more powerful ps3 with lesser graphical capabilities. thats about it, unless were talking ps vita OLED original model with the HDMI upscaler port). So it makes little to NO DIFFERENCE as to why it isn't possible to just release a ps vita minecraft by now, unless of course all of the coders need to relearn how to program on the ps vita with SDK thats not so different from the ps4 SDK (and they did port over Minecraft to ps3 and ps4 so....) it goes with out saying the ps4 is more complex than the ps vita so it shouldn't be a problem their. 4Jstudios is under contract with mojang initially to port over to ps4/vita. But now we dont know the truth, is their some way microsoft can influence 4JStudios with a new contract? For future contracts yes but not for current unless theirs some really shady things going on.
Now as it goes to stand due to the original contract, Microsoft cannot overrule the initial contract with 4Jstudios made by mojang for currently set in stone contracts, that means ps4 and ps vita cannot be affected. Now as far as updates goes that is a different story. Considering microsoft as is, they'll bolster or increase the speed at which the xbox 360/xbox one will be accelerated. This puts sony at a disadvantage period. Ultimately were going to see alot of the community mad as hell during these turn of events which will push more people to use windows phones, and xboxs.
So... in the next 2 years expect a large portion of what i've said to be true, and a small amount of it to be false, and that... i cannot see clearly because as it stands no "official" statement has been released. But lets be honest for a minute. It should be obvious that corporate espionage happens all the time not in the public eye so... i wouldn't be surprised if microsoft tries to sabotage sony at least on the indie front with minecraft, let alone on other platforms (not core microsoft related) Ex: Linux, Mac, etc..
So on the positive note, everything i've suggested thus far may not be entirely or remotely true, highly doubt any of what i stated will not be true in the future but currently now hopefully it can be wrong. Code will get revamped, we can see bug fixes, more functionality to the game, more options, more modes, and less restrictions. If this happens i see minecraft lasting basically a life time. With of course the inevitable sequals planned, like say add on content to include say minecraft adventures or something of the sort, enabling adventure modes bringing in what we know and love about minecraft but with set rules/parameters to enable those to engage in a fun filled world with new possibilities.
Now as everyone is saying "Change is good" lets look at obama for a moment. Change is good right? So when the change comes whos gonna be happy about it, and by happy i mean seeing crazy cuts and everything our current president has done. No real difference right? Wrong, the president has done "more damage" with his "change" and lack of support for the us armed forces than ever seen in the entire history of the USA. Now i wonder, how will "Change" affect minecraft, only time will tell so we can see a legacy become legend, and a legend slowly slip through the cracks of time to become forgotten as time has it.
Might have something to do with the topic of the thread, it's a pretty major event for minecraft. I can't speak for everyone but I don't use twitter or anything like that so this is the best place to go to discuss it. Personally I wish we could all organize and shift our focus to another open source minecraft clone. But I'm not a modder so I don't know which one the community would prefer.
I don't really use twitter either, I despise it's layout. I did make an account to try to contact Notch after all this happened but have yet to hear anything back. After this is all over plan to delete the account. As for opened source I heard about a few but forgot their names.
Minecraft clones are quite plentiful (not sure if that will stay that way). There's also games that use similar mechanics but are clearly different games
all good things come to an end..hoping for the best expecting the worse. Mincecraft will change. The quality will diminish. Mac and PS4 user's may get an inferior product in the future, giving special treatment obviously to windows and xbox when it comes to exclusives and extra content. Microsoft can do anything they want and I wouldn't be surprised if they cut out all mods, packs, maps, saves, anything community related, etc..it's going to be very limited.
Sure I'd love to be positive but it's Microsoft we're talking about here.
Ok now your delusional. You cannot cut off the map aspect without rewriting the entire game and changing it to something else at which would you could say they made an entirely new game. Maps will remain untouched.
well hope they don't stop updating minecraft. i've already done every thing in 1.8
You should try mods then. They drastically enhance game play. I wont lie, some are overpowered such as the Quantum suits from Industrial Craft or the entire DartCraft mod. Even so there's soo much variety with mods and all kinds of things to do. If you get bored try a new mod and the fun continues.
I also think it's funny that some are so hoping that MS not change MC.... but those same people have no problem using mods to change and enhance the game. So it's ok for them to change the game, but it's not ok for MS to do it? I don't understand you guys.

Mods are voluntarily installed. Any vanilla updates from here on will be mandatory in a sense.
Anyway, what's done is done. We can worry ourselves sick over it, see how it plays out, or just move on with our lives in general.
Some of you don't understand what an EULA is or how it works. You have already bought the game, the EULA that you agreed to is the EULA that binds you. They can change the EULA but only for future versions, ie when you get an update. If you don't agree to it then they can't change what you already bought. They can't suddenly tell you you can't play offline anymore without you agreeing to it. They can't start charging you a fee each month just to play Minecraft. As for the multiple platform support, the base code is JAVA. Kinda hard to not support other platforms as JAVA works on multiple platforms already and it is in MS's best interest to keep it that way as it gives them a bigger market.
According to a list I saw, Minecraft is the 3rd most sold game in history with 54 million copies sold. You're not going to get that kind of numbers sticking to 1 platform nor will you get the amount of people willing to buy toys, calenders and other stuff by cutting off potential customers. I think the way Microsoft is going to get over on Sony is through merchandise. It's also a test run for games released to multiple platforms.
I've seen 2 different stories lately, Microsoft buys Minecraft and Microsoft buys Mojang. These are different. If Microsoft just bought Minecraft, then MS would be the ones to maintain it but Microsoft bought Mojang. Mojang will still be the ones working on it so there's not going to be a change in quality; there may be a change in direction though.
Finally, the $2.5 billion that MS spent. This is a business investment. They will make more money from Mojang by buying Mojang than if that $2.5b was just sitting around or invested elsewhere. Eventually they may make all of that back or not, that's the nature of long-term investments. Short-term though, they've already said that they'll make enough this year to justify that expense. Also remember, Microsoft is worth $85 billion. $2.5 billion isn't a huge amount to MS.
this is good Microsoft will make changes to the Eula that are less strict
I'm sorry, what? Have you ever read an M$ EULA? Strict is their middle name. And the current EULA is not strict at all, except on those pay2win douche servers.
You managed to decompile and continue without me giving source code? O_O Bro, you are a god. Of course do whatever the [REDACTED] you want!!!! Good luck on it
I don't really imagine Microsoft is after the income from Minecraft directly. If I'm not mistaken, Microsoft made something like $27Billion in profit last year, almost 100 times the profit that Mojang made. They are saying what people want to hear, and won't make significant changes at first. That would be stupid, and no matter what you think of them otherwise, the people who run Microsoft aren't stupid. This is more about funnelling people into the Microsoft ecosystem, and I would guess it will be a long process. It will start with small things, like requiring you to log in w/ a Microsoft account ...
I'm reminded of a scene from the movie Broadcast News:
(Talking about the devil) "He will be attractive! He'll be nice and helpful ... He'll never do an evil thing! ... he will just bit by little bit lower our standards where they are important ..."
I still say until you have walked in Notch's shoes, quit hating... comes across as envy. Also a quick note, 90% of what we worry about will not happen. I suggest going to hunt some creepers in Halo (that would be scary) Or go find Chief hanging out at your dirt hut wanting to go Ender hunting. For now, enjoy the game. Be aware and be ready to say no to changes you don't like and above all, remember there is a life outside Minecraft (heresy... I know)
Yes exactly. We all may be a bit eager to figure out what Microsoft's going to do ,but best thing we can do is wait.. And if they make a change that some people don't like well then here are the options.
1. The group / person can find another game.
or
2. We all come as a group (if its something major thats been changed) and stand together and let Microsoft know that we do not like a change that's been a big part of Minecraft since day 1.
P.S. : I'm still sticking around of course
Wait an undefined time for Microsoft. Wait a year for Mojang. Guess it wasn't looking good for you either way.
Mods I Develop: Garden Stuff -- Storage Drawers -- Hunger Strike
Tools I Develop: NBTExplorer -- Substrate
I'd like to see them hire LexManos (MinecraftForge developer), it would be good for his wallet and good for the mod api
