"Mature" and "16+" are not the same thing, I'm sorry to tell you this. Half of the survival servers page that are vanilla servers are "16+" or "18+". I can't find a single good vanilla server. Not a single one that is not 18+ and is not run by someone that has no idea what he or she is doing.

I didn't even know this was a thing but damn I wish I knew sooner! I'm 20 years old and I can't even begin to say how annoying it is when every server is mostly 12 year old kids. I can never swear in any server and if I do I get warned by a mod. Even if I'm not insulting someone because I basically never do. I think it's good then if there are mature servers. Because Minecraft has adult players too and adult players get sick of having to do things we shouldn't, just because some little kid wants to play.
I'm sure the communities in those servers are much more respectful too. The PC gaming community is the best gaming community in my opinion, especially on Steam. But Minecraft is absolutely terrible in comparison and I personally blame that on the fact that Minecraft has too many young players so yes, a mature server is a very good thing.

Owch double negatives....painful to read....
It's because people don't trust kids, look at what they've done---spamming their channels, abusing skydoesmc memes, whining, spamming chat. Not saying that every kid has to cause a disturbance in servers, just in general. And some servers want to allow "bad words" so they kick kids out. I bet the reason you can't use "bad words" here is because so many whiney 6 year olds want to be here with us. Back in 2011 there was no such thing as banning "profanity".

Well let's review WOW again. The thing about minecraft is that it's so simple but in a way were everything can go wrong! Steam is good because we have more casual gamers there to form the community. Steam has everything. Minecraft could be better but whatever, right?

There's just some poodle's that you can't spoil. They are perfectly capable of doing that to themselves!
You're saying you see me spamming overrated youtube memes on the forums? That actually offends me.
No, he was speaking generally. And generally, it is better to just flat out exclude people based off age and/or perceived maturity, to prevent any issues.
Being 24, I would opt for an 18+ server myself. I am ~10 years older then many of the people around here, and my mind, fundamentally, functions different then a child's, and they do not mix well.

That is just sad. Im only 11 years old and i'm more mature then some of those 20 year old owners.......
People tend to make 16+ only servers because there is a vocal majority of those under 16 who tend to range from annoying to excruciatingly annoying. Truth be told I can understand some of these servers too (though when have I even played a on a server...2011?). Now that's not to say that these servers are always good. A good number of them are immature as well with just a different definition of maturity. Best you can really do is just pass up age restricted servers. Keep on looking and you'll find at least one good server (to you) one day. Or if permitting, host your own server in a fashion that works best for you.

I can certainly understand the desire for a mature server, but age never equals maturity. If you think age is the defining factor of mature than share whatever it is you are smoking cause I'd like to see the pink elephants along with you. The best way to weed out annoying kids is with an access fee since many click close tab as soon as they see a currency symbol. At least that is how I was when I was young and saw something I wanted only to see it cost money and immediately lose all interest.

Age can greatly help people find servers of like-minded people. Fundamentally, a 12 year old and myself are on drastically different levels. There is no way a child can relate to me in most situations.

Yeah, servers tend to be better developed if ran by someone more mature. Me on the other hand, I'm borderline. I'm 15 but I can be mature enough to hang out around older teens. Just ask my 17 year old girlfriend
Lol, that last part of your post echonite lol 😂 Yeah, servers tend to be better developed if ran by someone more mature. Me on the other hand, I'm borderline. I'm 15 but I can be mature enough to hang out around older teens. Just ask my 17 year old girlfriend
EDIT: 800th post!! I went from 700 posts to 800 posts in 2 days. Wow...I have no life lol xD
There is little difference between someone who is 15 and 17. Sorry. You are both still in highschool, and your daily lives don't differ much. However, between you and I, there is a huge difference. I work, I have a child, I have to sit in traffic every morning. Your life doesn't even compare to my own. I can relate to you based on my past experiences, while you can't relate to me on any meaningful level aside from the fact that we both breath air.
Not trying to put you down, that is just the reality of the situation. This is why I would always opt for an 18+ server first, because there are people who could potentially relate to myself.

Thats weird.... Thats the exact opposite for me.... When I see a $ symbol that makes me intrested.
I'm kind of in a weird place because I can both attest to the fact that age does not equal maturity, but I can also see why a group would want to target a specific demographic.
For age not equaling maturity, the ages of moderators on this site (not naming names) can run the gamut of anything from 12 years old to in their 40s or even older. There are no major age, location, or gender similarities in the staff here, the only thing that sets them apart is a dedication to following and enforcing the rules.
However, that also speaks to why it is normal and usually a good idea to seek out like minded individuals if you plan on spending a lot of time with them. As I said, most of the staff have at least a dedication to the rules in common, but we also often have other similar traits. As others have said, people tend to get along with people they can relate to best, which is typically people of the same age because they have similar life experiences.
Would I visit a 16+ or 18+ server? No, even though I am old enough to qualify (like they could ask for my ID or something anyways). But that is because I prefer to play with people I know rather than hop from server to server hoping I find someone I like.

That... still doesn't explain why it's 16+. And if they want to do that, there shouldn't be an allcaps "MATURE" in the title.

While true, I would still consider an 18+ server over anything else. Obviously I don't assume "Oh look, 18+, it must be good".
