Has anyone here ever heard of Paul Soares (jr)? He was the first ever Minecraft Youtuber and is still going today! And he's a husband, father and has a job. I mean, he's not alone, but he basically came up with Minecraft on Youtube and many people got the idea of him.
'Old' people make up much of our community, be glad to have them.
If the OP thinks 16 is old, how old are they? I opened this thread thinking it was a discussion about grandmothers on Minecraft.
It's not like Mojang is selling this game to 'people under 16 buy this game, nobody else please'. They're selling it to everyone - whether they be 4, 9, 17, or 101. It's such a creative game that anyone can play it however they like and age should not be an issue at all, as long as the player is mature in multiplayer.
Good to know I'll be old in a year. I haven't finished school and I don't have a job. What an accomplished life.
Wait, 16? How's that old? I guess it's older, but in my opinion, old's elderly. Even if elderly people were playing Minecraft, as long as they can handle it, I'm fine (I don't want anyone to be hurt). Or are you talking about other-species-of-animals years? Because if so, then yes, 30 is pretty old for let's say a cat; you'll be lucky if they make it to 15 or so.
Like the guys above me said minecraft was never specifically created just for kids with minecraft age doesnt matter it only depends on whether the person likes the survival sandbox genre, and when you think about it without the "older" part of the community minecraft wouldn't be what it is today some examples of what i mean are:
1. No mods, some of the worthy mods if not all the mods come from the older community mostly from college students who've learned to code and such (and correct me if im wrong but i don't think there are schools that'll teach kids game coding and such)
2. No dedicated servers, yes some kids do host servers but they wouldn't really last long because, school and no plugins to make the servers fun or to protect the server (because plugins are made by the college students mentioned above).
3. No YouTube videos, the more interesting videos are done by the older community, the younger youtubers don't really get much attention.
4. No Nether or End, neither of them are kid friendly, even if kids like them the devs probably wouldn't add them if it was a kids game though
5. Nerfed hostile mobs, skeletons, zombies, spiders and creepers would probably still be in the game but less dangerous.
6. No Endermen, to spooky for the younger audience haha JK but probably not...
7. Redstone would be useless, No college nerds to build massive redstone contraptions or to show the kids how to build simple stuff.
8. No adventure maps or maps in general or very little anyway, again school would get in the way, and kids get bored easily (i know i was one once)
anyway that's just a few things that without the older audience minecraft wouldn't have... but yeah i agree that there are some games adults shouldn't play but minecraft isnt one of those games.
I love how kids think 16 - 30 is old. I have to tell you the average gamer is in their mid 30's that would be 35. 70 - 80 might be considered old, and if they were playing Minecraft. That would be a site to see.

Wow, what's the categorical name for people older than 30 then? Ancient? You do make me feel old though, to think that Gen-X is now beyond the range of even "old"...
I guess you are right though, I really should start learning how to play cribbage and backgammon instead. There should be an old wooden cribbage set around here somewhere.

My 60-something year old grandma plays Rift ALL DAY LONG ON A GIANT FLAT SCREEN TV she calls her desktop monitor, she's awesome! I may get her into modding, cause she also happens to have a background in visual Basic, pottery, and painting,,, go figure.....

I am random, if I seem like a jerk, I'm probably being sarcastic.
Being a nerd is nothing to be ashamed of. Nerds rule the world! Who invented the internet? Nerds. Who created personal computers and smart phones? Nerds. Who made every video game you've ever played and ever will? Still nerds. Who sent probes to distant planets? Nerds, nerds and more nerds! I'm a nerd and I'm proud.
where did you get that information? like it or not, minecraft is not made for little kids.

(website != game), that has mainly to do with child internet safety laws. and minecraft is great for kids, compared to all the other hd blood and gore games, and it's like a lego world, so yeah, perfect for kids

Personally I hate the younger player's due to their untrustworthy/unpredictable behavior. Their big potty mouth's and just immatureness. I am a younger player myself. xD

Besides, us old folks are the only ones who remember the original 8 bit games and the Atari 2600, so only we can truely appreciate Minecraft.
That was a joke, btw....
