Okay. What are the farlands, and why can't you go there?
the farlands,now know as the world border was the edge of the infinate map in minecraft. Going their takes 2WEEKS. And when u get their it lags out ur pc real bad, but that was removed in beta 1.8 it is now know known As the world border with a invislble wall. Somehow getting past gives u an ilegial area message hope this helped

What does it look like? Is it just a border? Can you see anything past it?
I think it looks like the void past it but im not sure
False, when you go to the border in 1.7 you can pass the border but you fall instantly. There are "fake" blocks after the border. If you do /fly or go into game-mode creative you can see that its dirt and ocean, its not the void.
The Farlands only exist up to Beta 1.7.3 (after 12,550,820 meters, not 30 million) due to math errors (the distance corresponds closely to the accuracy of single precision floating point variables, while the game currently uses doubles with twice as many digits of accuracy); afterwards there is nothing unusual to see, even before the barrier was added in release 1.7; it looks like normal terrain (no lag either because there are no entities and no block updates) but without any trees or any other features and you fall through the ground since the game was hard-coded to ignore blocks after +/- 30 million (that is, you can make the game generate normal terrain past this point if you change some built-in limits; no idea what the significance of 30 million is, presumably "just because we need some defined limit"; the real limit is currently +/- 2.147 billion due to the use of 32 bit integers for block positions).
Also, good luck in /tping to the Far Lands, as Beta 1.7.3 doesn't have commands unless you can find SPC for it (cheats were only added in 1.3.1).
I know about the far lands. Apparently there is a guy on YouTube who is raising money for charity by trying to find the far lands. I know how to get there, and the far lands are still special. First, set the world border to 100000000000000,( meAning a really high number, past 100 billion), then do /tp (Yourself) ~10000000 ~ ~, then, hopefully you will be there. As of 1.8, there are no more long strips of grass and dirt, i think.

z=same as x.
You will be teleported to the farlands, however 1.7 made a barrier around the world so you can't go further.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
