So far, every time I've logged in at home, my donkey has been off his lead. Every time, he was on it when I logged out. Only once out of the 3 times, was there a lead laying on the ground as an item drop.
This is on vanilla multiplayer. The server has only 3 players and I'm confident nobody's playing tricks.
In the occasions where I've logged in somewhere far enough away that the donkey wasn't immediately visible, it'd be on its lead when I got home. It's only when I log in with the donkey immediately being simulated, that the lead is broken or vanishes.
I hate jumping through bug reporting hoops, so I'm just going to post it here.

A lead will stretch a maximum of ten meters before breaking. Where do you keep your horse? If it has more than 10 blocks of space to move then this might be the problem.

So... a lead doesn't prevent it from walking away? If that's true, then attaching a lead to a fencepost is totally useless. I'm banking on this being a bug.
