With the new resource packs and support for higher resolution textures, I started thinking - should Mojang make a new default texture pack?
I think this would be a great idea obviously because everything would look better, but also because it would allow them to add more detail to items to further distinguish them as what they are. For example, the new flowers that were added with 1.7 are great, but let's be honest, their textures are pretty bad. A texture pack twice the size would give them 32 pixels to work with to make them look a lot more like flowers.
I think we can all agree that higher resolution textures look better and are more enjoyable overall. But this has one major flaw: performance on lower end computers. It is pretty much guaranteed that FPS will suffer from better textures, but I have a solution. The new resource pack could be used very well by minecraft being pre-loaded with 2 texture packs: the default 16x and the new default 32x, with the 16x loaded by default.
If Mojang won't or doesn't want to do this, maybe they could try out some higher res community packs and pick one, and maybe brand it as the official high res pack. I like this idea better than just using some other packs because it feels more official by using something Mojang approved and having everything vanilla.

If they would have wanted higher resolution default pack, they would have done it at the beginning.
I wouldn't mind having an option for a higher resolution pack though.

They'll stick with 16x16 because not everybody plays Minecraft on a high end desktop. But I think they should make higher resolution packs of what they already have. I don't think the textures should be altered in any way though.

That is literally the stupidest thing I have ever heard. The textures not being altered would mean that it looks exactly the same but lags your computer more. It doesn't make anything look different. It just gives more pixels of the same color per original pixel

I think he was trying to say as in faithful just upsize the textures and not change the style or look.

For people with sub-par comprehension skills, I'm trying to say the textures shouldn't be completely redesigned.
And I will use R3D Craft as an example, I have never heard of Faithful; their 32x pack looks no different than their 512x pack, it just varies with quality and detail.
And Ivya, considering you're from the US and your post had grammatical errors, I highly doubt that is the stupidest thing you have ever heard, or even close to stupid for that matter.

So would anyone else like this?
