They're likely to be sold in stores (unlike the micro sets). It doesn't look like they're very far along in development yet. I wonder when they'll be out?
In the video, it looked like they were working with standard LEGO bricks. I have no idea what their technical capabilities are, but I think leaves, for example, ought to be transparent with leafy textures embossed in them, and water should be transparent blue. The big problem I see, though, is that Minecraft blocks are not proportionally the size of LEGO bricks. If they really want to replicate Minecraft, they're going to need to make cubic bricks half the height of a minifigure, which is not a standard brick size and shape. If they don't, there will be no real difference between the sets and buying a suitable assortment of bricks.
Hmmm ... now I'm starting to think we should be able to get texture packs for them, too, which would of course be implemented as sheets of stickers that one would stick to the bricks to re-texture them. I think I need more sleep. Or more caffeine. One or the other.
I'd expect these to be out no sooner than summer 2014. The catalog for the Summer sets that is released to LEGO stores and features preliminary designs (though still relatively final) is released in about a month, and these sets look well enough along to be included in that.

Was one of the collaborators who worked with LEGO on the original Minecraft set.
I would've REALLY liked to see a Minecraft-like game made by LEGO... the Villagers wouldn't be derpy, the whole world would look amazing, and you'd probably be able to make custom weapons and whatnot.
This has been a while comin. What I'm hoping is that the set will not have instructions, but a pack of pieces resembling Minecraft blocks and a guide on how to make mobs and buildings.

The golden age: it's not the game, it's you ⋆ Why Minecraft should not be harder ⋆ Spelling hints
I can't help but feel, though, that lego must regret not having developed minecraft first
Oh, they do. They tried to release building games time and time again, but none of them ever got popular.
Looks like there will be a new sword mold as well.

Prototypes are being posted once a week. Next week, along with the usual figure prototypes, we'll get a video featuring prototypes temples.
Really wish Legos didn't become so expensive over the years.
