You can understand what I'm saying here. Sometimes games just die.
Look at stuff like runescape, it isn't even close to what it was (but that's maybe not a good exsample...)
Or look at mega man. It was succsessful, but it just dies off. (well we do have Mighty no. 9 now, buts that diffrent.)
Any way, to the point: Minecraft will die at the end, the question is, how? And also, when?
In my opinion, minecraft will only die when either youtube or the entire internet will be shutten down. A.K.A. Until the age of computers will end.
Maybe minecraft will only die when some kind of a better virsion will replace it. But not likely.
Now it can also die if mojang will screw up. But again, what are the chances?
It seems minecraft will be here for a long time. Infact minecraft is one of the 10 best pc selling games, one of the top 100 best selling games of all time, and the most succsessful indie games, ever.
So, what's your opinion?...
Edit:
People don't take this too much. It's just for a good discussion. Minecraft is here to stay
It will die at 6:00 today by people not playing it only to be resurrected after 7:00... Anybody else get that reference?

In my opinion minecraft will die when mojang dies because mojang isnt going to stop updating minecraft there is to many possiblities every day something new is discovered so in my opinion when mojang dies all of its games will go with it..
These types of questions are very hard to answer. They are hard to answer because you never really think it would end until it actually does it. Personally I think Mojang will just eventually stop making updates when they are not making money.
It'd take a lot for it to die out completely. I mean, it did codify a genre. There are only two ways I could see it dying:
1) Another Minecraft-esque game (I call 'em Boxels because portmanteaus and puns) comes out that is superior to Minecraft in every way and leaves absolutely no reason to pick up Minecraft over it. IMO, this is very hard simply because it'd get a lot of flak for being to similar to Minecraft and thus it'd be hard for it to get a sizable enough fanbase, but you never know. The game that's closest to doing this is Blockscape, being better in building and exploration, but having a more complex building system and being too in early development for much survival-related content (therefore if it ever gets off the ground, Minecraft will essentially go from "Legos on the computer" to "Duplo on the computer" in status).
2) Mojang releases an update so bad that there's no point in playing any more. The only way I could see Mojang actually doing this is if they somehow managed to ruin both building and redstone, which would be unbelievably stupid and, at least in my mind, difficult to do by accident. Not gonna happen.
I'm not actually sure. Maybe it's when updates stop coming, but then again, there are always new mods that revive the game with new stuff. And then there's redstone, the thing that I can't get bored of.
If anything, the game will die when updates AND mods stop coming, the community becomes stagnant, and people start to leave.
1. There are huge plugins servers like shotbow and the hive
2. yes people are leaving, but also new are coming, so...
When a similar game which is superior in (at least almost) every way is released. For example, it has smaller cubes so that the world has a higher resolution, and almost all other elements of the game are about equal or superior.
One of the things which make minecraft very succsessful is simplicity, if what your are saying will come true, it might not be a hit. what i meant was a game like starcraft. It uses ideas from minecraft, but also creates its own.

1. I was a bit wrong: a superior doesn't have to be better, it just need to us something fresh, and yet be close to minecraft fan base (Which is pretty much everyone at this point.) for exsample: Starcraft (I'm going to use this game alot.) Starcraft isn't better then minecraft, but it's fresh and it got something else to offer. game like it might be the "minecraft replace"
2. Mojang aren't idiots. And they know what the people want. Heck, haft of there people are community people.
Minecraft will die players will not find new ideas anymore. So it will be very long.
That's acually means never. Human creativty can go on until the human age will end. (Which infact seems to be soon but that doesn't metters right now.)
Single player games don't die....
Paperboy 2 are a couple decades past it's prime but that doesn't mean it's not there for me to play whenever I want.
The only way a game dies is if it's physically not available to be played by anyone, such as Tabula Rasa, or any other dead MMO.... It's an MMO with no servers, thus it is dead.
If what you meant to say was, when will minecraft no longer be the most popular game in it's genre / when will it stop getting updated.... Well, there are a lot of good looking games in the works which deal with a lot of gameplay elements that Minecraft does, and then some... That coupled with the fact that the revenue stream for Minecraft is getting smaller and smaller and new updates are free for players, I don't think we should be surprised if the free updates stop within the next couple of years at most.
Eventually Mojang is going to need to divert it's developers to projects that will continue making money for them.
I don't care when Mc dies, so long as it dies after Mojang releases an update allowing me to build a 67impala fully drivable replica. Once Mc reaches that achievement, I would give them my blessings to curl up and die.
P.s. That includes authentic motor noises!
If Mojang stops updating but people keep making mods then Minecraft will never die...
And when and WHY will the age of computers end?! How and why would the internet shut down?
Why would people do that? There is no reason to end computers or the internet... Unless someone comes up with some amazing idea that actually works, and I doubt that will happen for a long time.
