So, I really like minecraft but I can't play it. Does anyone think that minecraft will come to ps4 within about a year? I know about the contract and everything but do you think it's possible that notch would sign a contract to deprive people of his ultimate game? I really want a ps4 because I want to play modern games and I only have a ps3 right now. And also will they continue to update the console versions to catch up with exactly where the PC is at? Because if I'm going to play minecraft I want to play real minecraft and not some crappy port. And as a bonus question (you don't have to answer) Does anyone know why the Xbox 360 can't have an infinite world? It's retarted and BS how the minecraft PI is about to have infinite worlds in the next update and how they say the Xbox 360 can't have infinite worlds. I'm thinking the Devs are just lazy I ghess. But can some spec guru set me stright? Sorry there's so many questions but I've had these for a while and am sick of only playing shooters all the time.
I feel your pain, man. I would love Minecraft on my PS3 as much as you. But, that isn't likely, because Microsoft has an exclusivity contract for the release of MC on consoles. So in other words, until it expires, we're out of luck. But, chances are, if the contract does run out soon, they would release it on the next gen consoles. And it wouldn't be a very smart move to not allow Minecraft on the Playstation consoles when the contract is up, because me and you are not the only ones who would like this, and it would make a lot of money.

Doubtful. I've heard that the contract with MS runs through at least the end of 2014, possibly longer.

I think that Notch would sign a contract to get his game onto consoles, and if both MS and Sony said "We'll only sign a contract with you if you give us exclusivity" he had to pick one and go with it -- probably the one that offered him a better deal. (my insider tells the that MS gave him a much better deal than the usual indie developer gets, because they wanted Minecraft bad)
I really want a ps4 because I want to play modern games and I only have a ps3 right now.
Define "modern"?
By the way, you can build yourself a PC perfectly capable of running Minecraft today for less than you'll pay for a PS4 when it comes out.
And also will they continue to update the console versions to catch up with exactly where the PC is at?
Nope. They've already said they're going to go off in their own direction. MC/360 is not going to be an exact copy of MC/PC, even aside from the console limitations.
Because if I'm going to play minecraft I want to play real minecraft and not some crappy port.
Then build yourself a PC. I'd recommend buying parts from NewEgg -- not only do they have good prices, but they stood up to a patent troll and won, which is a win for all of us, too.
And as a bonus question (you don't have to answer) Does anyone know why the Xbox 360 can't have an infinite world?
As I understand it, because of how its memory addressing works. It has to load everything into memory at once -- it can't swap segments in and out the way a PC does, with virtual memory. Remember, the XBox was designed to function without a hard drive at all, so it doesn't have features that require the presence of one.
It's retarted and BS how the minecraft PI is about to have infinite worlds in the next update and how they say the Xbox 360 can't have infinite worlds.
You do realize, I hope, that the Pi is a lot newer of a system, with a much more powerful and flexible architecture. The 360 was released in 2005. It's an 8-year-old computer. To put it in simple terms, there are people getting their drivers' licenses today who were in third grade when the XBox 360 was released. And, at least as I understand it, games for it have to be able to run on any version of the 360 to pass certification.
I'm thinking the Devs are just lazy I ghess.
If they were lazy, and it was that easy, then either the owners of 4J would fire them and hire people who weren't lazy, or Mojang would cut ties with 4J and hire another studio that wasn't lazy to do the port. So guess again.
Again, it's an 8-year-old platform (and, Microsoft's development cycle being what it is, the specs were probably set at least a year earlier than that). It has limitations that a newer platform does not have. I build my own computers, and I know that what I would have built in 2005 wouldn't hold a candle to what I could build today. (in fact, I remember building a new computer in 2008 -- the one I play MC on, in fact -- because the one I'd built only a few years before, probably when the 360 was designed, couldn't handle a game I wanted to play)
By the way, I play both the PC and 360 version of MC. I don't consider the 360 one to be a "crappy port". It's different, yes, but it's also fun, in different ways and for different reasons. There's more to a game than the size of the world! (now, if they'd do something about my sheep clipping right out of their pens, that would be good)
But can some spec guru set me stright? Sorry there's so many questions but I've had these for a while and am sick of only playing shooters all the time.
So ... um ... don't play shooters all the time? There is an enormous variety of games on the market, whether for the PC or consoles. Whatever you happen to have, there are all kinds of games you can play on it. Pick some and have fun. Just don't expect an 8-year-old console to have the same capabilities as a modern PC, because that's simply not going to happen. Technology doesn't work that way.
Well one of the main reasons they were able to do The Xbox version was because Microsoft gave them a 4J Studios to work on it. The only way i see them making a successful PS4 port is if Sony gave them a dev team also. As for the contract, i do not think Mojang released details on it (If anyone knows give a source), but i do believe it will end soon. Otherwise, i definitely see Mojang doing it for the huge amount of $$$ they would make. Let's just hope if they do release a PS4 version, they will also release a PS3 version for us who are too poor to buy the console immediately.
Microsoft and their exclusivity contracts...
