The only thing that I dislike is the developers. They are awful.
Slow, and often add things that aren't fully thought out, and aren't quite finished. they also seem to fail to add things we need in any timely fashion.
Compressing redstone dust, coal, and wheat into blocks for instance. Smelting netherrack into nether bricks. And so on.

Development on minecraft has always been comparatively slow to other games which are developed by large companies. I can understand your frustration but I think when they do put the content out it is always content that I enjoy.
Note that Minecraft has 11 million users. Out of 11 million users the forum has 2,195,928 members which roughly equates to 20% of the fanbase. However when we take into consideration that less than 10% of all members here have more than 10 posts (that's a real statistic ask an admin if you don't believe me) that makes it 219,592 legit users which roughly makes the percentile this forum represents to be 2%, and from what I see, I don't think we actually have 220K users actively running around here so that percentile is even less.
This forum barely represents 2% of the Minecraft community, but it is one of the most outspoken there is. Any hate on Minecraft here is not geared towards most users. We are not even close to a majority, we are weaker than a minority. Not everyone hates Minecraft, some of the users of this forum does, but that doesn't mean everyone. Negativity speaks louder than positivity which is why we seem to see more negative talk about the game than anything, but truth be told, if people didn't like Minecraft they wouldn't be here. I still think the majority of this community, our little 2% group, love Minecraft and the haters are a minority. Not to say they don't exist, but they don't represent our community, which doesn't even represent Minecraft to begin with.
Don't be silly. Ever since they created the first monsters minecraft has been about the ability to survive, explore and possibly defend your creations. If you want a "sandbox construction exploration game" why don't you just play in creative mode?
True, survival is an important aspect of the game. That's the very reason I don't want to play in creative. I just feel like they're making it much more difficult to survive to please the people that complain about it being too easy. I'm not one of those people. I find what came before to be a nice balance of danger and still having the freedom to explore and create. I feel like these new changes will make it so that the survival part of the equation becomes unbalanced and I won't be able to enjoy the other aspects as much.
Unlike many though, I don't expect Mojang to cater to me individually. If this is the direction they want to take the game, so be it. Obviously the section of the fan base that wants more combat is the larger section. I'll happily stick with my current version of the game and may choose to update in the future if another update seems worth it.
Many things have been changed in Minecraft, some for better, some (in my opinion), for worse. Sure, there are many new features that can only be reasonably viewed as good for the game. You can choose to ignore new additions to the game if you don't like them, but if something you loved about Minecraft was taken out and replaced with a new version of it that you hated, then you might have an issue with the new updates. A good example of this is the new terrain generation system added in Beta 1.8, replacing the older generator, which was, in my opinion, a much better system that had few flaws and was not in need of replacement.
Many people feel entitled to new updates, and some like the changes, and some don't, but both groups want an improved game. People, in my experience, tend to be more outspoken about what they hate rather than what they love, and eventually it seems as if everyone hates Minecraft.
Nostalgia, pretty much. I've even played the older versions, and I think the current versions of Minecraft are way better than what Minecraft was in Alpha or Beta.

Using me as example: I started playing in 1.8b, and only now checked the older versions - and yes, the older terrain generator is better.
A mode where a bug can wipe out completely your progress? Nah.
Anyway, DB is making changes to Hard Mode anyway.

Its in beta right now...
EDIT:
You might want to look that up, mate.
It is weird that you say that because if I was in the first version of Minecraft Alpha then I think I would have loved to see the next update.
Nope. It left Beta at 1.0.
I love all the updates! Why should anything be changed?
Besides maybe a little terrain update... But even the terrain isn't that bad!
Just stop complaining and get use to it people...
