Minecraft is adding RPG elements. Not everyone likes RPG elements. That's why there are mods. Mods are good, they give people choices, and don't force anything.
But the community? It was already bad, I feel we could at least come to an agreement about that.
Generally I don't wade into these sorts of threads, because the collective whinging on both sides of the argument gets to be intolerable. However, at least from what I have seen in my extensive lurking within the Minecraft community, the community is pretty good. Especially when I look at other gaming communities. Minecraft is one of the better ones. (Yes, I get you were teasing, but I felt this still needed saying.)
With regards to the actual topic: I really like the new features, and, unlike 1.5, 1.6 interested me enough to jump right into it before the mods were caught up. With the new launcher letting people have any version they want, I might go back to revisit the versions for early beta, but I really didn't get much enjoyment out of the game until 1.7.3 and onwards. (Nostalgia time: I remember being excited and even liking Jungle biomes when they first came out. Now I just delete the world if I spawn in one. Still glad we have them though!)
In my opinion I don't think Jeb is ruining the game. But he isn't making the game better. Jeb is going into a different direction that Notch took. Notch chooses Sandbox and adventure. Jeb is choosing RPG and adventure and a little of sandbox. But think about this 1.6 update what did they add that was creative? Horses and donkeys. So what what happened to the old riding a pig? I bet a lot of people is going to ride a pig anytime soon since there are now horses. But then there is one thing Jeb would never remove (or at least I hope he doesn't) and that is you have a choice on what to do. Don't like horses there are pigs. Don't like to enchant? Than don't enchant? Don't like to beat the game? Don't beat it. No one is going to force you to do anything in Minecraft. That is why it is so popular. Choices is a very powerful thing.
Creative game, he has added many things that allow users to express their creativity and have fun. Honestly, I've known horses would be coming after all, riding a pig like a horse is silly when you have all farm animals in the game except horses. I LOVE that they used DrZhark's animals because they were very well done. The jumping with the horses and understanding their traits (wiki says offspring can be better than parents but there is no way to confirm this) is a bit difficult. It'd also be nice if there was in fact a Donkey egg like there is a horse egg.
There are some silly things yes, but EVERY game has silly stuff. If you want hardcore survival, set it to hard and have fun. The only complaint I have, is the freaking bats! Those things annoy me to no end, but it was a theme so whatever.
The game has insanely expanded, especially with the use of Xbox, there are wider demands for material and items of interest. My guess, Jeb was paying attention to how much users loved DrZhark's mod and, so to make users happy, added the feature in with the mod creator's help.

How do you magically know when features are added? And if Jeb see's a mod that is doing well with users, I say he should say good job and leave as is not force it straight into Vanilla Minecraft where people have to deal with it.
The hunger bar killed pvp, as well as enchantments. Before the hunger bar, it took skill, not just the best armor. If you were good enough you could 1 v 2 and it was such a fun time. Enchantments were a good idea for tools, but for armor no. Potions should be removed from the game, lets be real here. They also hurt the pvp aspect of things. Minecraft was so fun because it was so damn simple! It was so basic and straightforward but also had the creative side of endless possibilities. Every addition since 1.8 just seems to muddy the waters and take it further away from its core.

I agree, Minecraft was the most fun sandbox game I've ever played, the basic carefree do whatever you wish always appealed to me. Now it's like here's a storyline with levels and stats have fun bro, Without the fun of building things.
Thanks you guys for the responses, and please quit bashing on all of us. We're here to discuss whether or not we like the new updates, I was unaware at the time of the OP that Dr. Zhark helped make the horses, but I was implying that if we really wanted horses, we would download Dr. Zhark's mod. And I never said that Jeb is getting rid of the Creative-sandbox element, I was just saying that he's trying to make Minecraft into more of an RPG. I do like how Jeb is updating it, I just don't like some of the updates, and that's what this thread is for. So please stop with all the "nostalgia" comments, as they are annoying. We're supposed to discuss Minecraft here, not make fun of others because they miss the old Minecraft.

I understand where you're coming from, but personally I like the updates. Perhaps you just don't like change? I absolutely love the lead for wolves - I've been waiting for that instead of having a mod for it.
Hey guys, Gamesmind here. I used to love Minecraft back before 1.8, when the adventure update came out. Most of the additions that he has been adding to Minecraft seem extremely unnecessary and I would rather have the option to have them as a mod, than them to permanently be in the game.
You also have the option of installing a mod that reverts Minecraft back into its original state. Besides the point, name these "unnecessary" updates, because I can make an argument this whole game as a whole is "unnecessary".
The horses/donkeys were obviously a copy of Dr. Zhark's Mo' Creature mod. If I wanted those, I'd go to Dr. Zhark's topic and download them.
Same thing for pistons, dogs, ocelots, dragon, ravines, actually, a lot of content, before release and after, have all been inspiration of various mods. Why is this a bad thing? You expect Mojang to create original content? Hah, good luck with that, considering every piece of idea by now is already in a mod form.
When Notch was still around, I'd get excited to see a new update, but now, I'm always hoping there isn't one.
An update is an update. Nothing changes. Minecraft has always been the same game it has been, it's just now have more content to it, but the core game is still there. You still punch a tree, a still mine ore, you still make a house, you still can choose whatever you want to do. Nothing is forced on you.
Sure, Jeb's added a few nice things, like trading with villagers, but I really feel like he restricts or limits how much fun we can actually have. Minecraft is supposed to be a creative-sandbox game, and it seems like he's trying to change that.
Last time I checked, this game is still a sandbox game and you can still do whatever you want.
Please post what you guys think below, whether you agree with me or not.
Thanks,
Gamesmind
I think you're wrong. This game since Notch left has only gained more popularity and sales. This game is the most successful Indie game of all time and is a mainstream culture phenomenon. Notch left the game, he probably didn't want to continue the legacy on his own, so he entrusted someone who he thought could do the job and make Minecraft the vision he probably wanted. Ever took that into consideration? Maybe Jeb is doing exactly what Notch would have done. You cannot say this game is going bad, because it isn't, and I've stated my facts on the matter before. This game is fine, and I hope updates keep happening. Free content after release that you're not forced to use, stop complaining.
Maybe I just don't like the new minecraft because I've been away from it for awhile and I don't even know half of the stuff. I think it's human nature to always prefer the past. Also the newer minecraft bugs me because it killed some pvp based servers I used to love. A new fad of servers has started and a lot of the classics I knew died out.
I sadly think that even though it was mentioned, We aren't going to be able to go to older versions of minecraft with the new launcher. I mean currently you can only go back if you have the .jars of the version you want which is NOT convenient in anyway due to if you had to reset your entire minecraft and lost all your old .jars. The internet may have some to download but who knows if it's just someone trying to scam the user by giving them a .jar that has malware on it.
Get the Mod API that was promised almost 3 YEARS AGO into the game!! Game is now infinately fixed, no room for complaining, get to it Jeb.

Lol. Lol. NOPE!
There are still tons of bugs, reasons for MC to crash randomly, and FPS optimization to be done. And all the features added in the last updates were preparations for the API. Beacons made potions ranged, horses made mobs able to ride others etc.
And to the OP: alot of people think that, myself included. When I saw the Wither, I was going crazy about it and my friends suggested jokingly to worship him. But I did not like the horses, nor the beacons, but neither RUINED the game. I am not sure if people use ruin in the right context, just like people use epic (a word formerly used to describe something VERY long or a very long piece of literature that included heroes killing demons and bringing their heads to greek gods) now to describe hip things.
And to all of you complaining that he kills MC as a sandbox creative game... You can still build castles of doom. You can still build computers. You can still build dirt houses. And Notch originally intended MC to be a RPG-esque rogue-like. So adding RPG things does not turn away from the original intent.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Would you like to know the atomic structure of a piece of bread?

Notch said himself even though he had some intent for RPG elements, He did not want Minecraft to become and RPG as he did for A Sandbox Adventure
I agree that Jeb is making the game worse and worse people who are saying your stupid for not liking the updates are trolls also Mojang bascially shot themselves in the foot since MC is being added to the Xbox One why? because we already have MC for the 360 why would we buy another systerm just to get the same game? its not like the 360 version is as fun as the PC version anyway

The good thing about minecraft is that you can either downgrade or get a mod if you don't like some of the features minecraft puts out
I second this, took the words right out of my mouth!
..and you obviously haven't been paying attention to anything related to MineCraft for the past few months either apparently.

No, I meant the post that I quoted said that.
