Hi! If I want to install mods but my dad is wacko about security and wants to know that it is safe/secure. What advice or proof can I give him that its safe to install the mods I want to install. The mods I like is Duel Wield and Herobrine and clay soldiers, and terrain.
Proof? Only the fact that tens of thousands of people have downloaded them and never had any problem as long as they got them from the official threads started by the mod creator here or at Planet minecraft. If you download them from a third party site then yes, there is no telling what might have been done to the file by someone else before you downloaded it. But the files found here by known mod creators with a long record here are perfectly safe.
Just get them from here
And you will be fine just use something like: MCPatcheror MagicLauncher Which are also from here. Just use those if you are having trouble with the manual method.
To find mods search our mod page here, Or check out some youtubers, they should put a link in there descriptions
Get mods from a reliable source such as PlanetMinecraft (In fact, this is recommended).Downloading other mods from other websites sometimes may contain viruses or any other items that will harm your computer.

wut about minecraft furom?
Umm. Not really anything you can say to him to 'prove' they're not viruses. But there are various actions. Run them through a virus scanner, etc.
As someone else mentioned, you can also throw them through an anti-virus/anti-malware program (or two) once you download 'em just in case.
That's what I do, even if the mod in question is really well-known.
If I haven't used the mod before, it gets scanned.
If I update the mod, it gets scanned.
The only mods I DON'T scan are Rei's Minimap (because I've used it a million and five times and I trust it by now because I always get it from the same exact place and the same exact user) and Forge because I get it directly through MultiMC (which I also scanned thoroughly before using even though it's not a mod.)
And when I scan, I always run them through Avast! and Malwarebytes just for redundancy (and before anyone jumps on me for using those, I can't afford Kaspersky and McAfee kept deactivating itself so I stopped using it.)

Had a bit of trouble finding the Duel Wielding
But Herobrine is updated to 1.5.2: http://www.minecraft...rge-compatible/
Clay soilders are updated too and are here: http://www.minecraft...iers-mod-v-911/
For terrain nothing is better then BWG: http://www.minecraft...eration-4-v107/
I am positive that all require Forge to operate: http://www.minecraft...x.php?board=3.0
