I dont know how much the new spawning hp values will vary, but it all can be fixed with small adjustments and stone swords. My current mob trap is set up to spawn 8 floors worth of creepers, skeletons, and zombies. It gathers them all together without gijust ving them fall damage and then drops them the exact distance that it takes for skeletons and creepers to be at half a heart. At this point, those two are one hit kills, but zombies need two hits, so I just use stone swords since they are costless to make and effortless to use.
The same adjustment can be made with varying health levels and for different mobs. Just adjust so that none of them are completely killed by the fall or by the grinder and then you only need one or two hits with a stone sword.

Yes this is a possibility. My point though is that there is no reason for them to do this other than trying to ruin what people have made which in my eyes is going against what the game is about more than the creation of the farms in the first place (for those that believe that the farms go against the spirit of the game). I believe that the farms were meant to be made as the point of the game is to make things easier for yourself.

Mojang has no rules against implementing anything that they want. Some of the most popular things we have turned into the best thing in the "old minecraft" for this exact reason. There are oodles and oodles of people that complain about exactly this. Yes this change would affect almost all current mob grinders, but it wouldn't "ruin" all of them and mob towers are not the point of the game.
however if the minimum and maximum health differences are too great for even level two splash potions to deal with then they are nerfed completely.
Come off it, man, they're not "nerfed completely." You just reduce the damage (crushing time, fall height, etc.) by a little bit and then hit them with a weapon instead of your fists. So some of them might still die on impact, and some of them might take two hits with an iron sword. Many will still be one hit. Maybe it takes you two or three minutes to go from 0-30 at an ender farm, instead of less than one. Boo-frikkin'-hoo. That's not "nerfed completely" by any stretch, it's just running a bit slower.

I'm aware they aren't 100% nerfed but I still can't find a logical reason for them to do this. Yes I know other updates have been hated but as far as I'm aware at least they had a good reason to be done. BUD's for example were used by a lot of people and were fixed for the most part, this makes sense because they were a bug in the game and not intended to be used how they were. On the other hand the farms we make aren't using any bugs they are merely taking advantage of how mob spawning works and letting us gain something from it. IronMagus would your opinion be different if they nerf Iron Golem farms as well? If they are going to nerf how effective normal mob farms are now what's to stop them from nerfing other things like Iron Golem farms? It's quite possible that far enough in the future if they don't get enough feedback to let them know that people don't like changes like this that it wont just be a small nerf on how long it takes to kill things, it could go as far as "Blank mob will not spawn in or on a player made structure".
Logical reason? It adds variance to the game. As in, going out and fighting mobs, you will not know exactly how many hits your hand or sword will take to kill that endermen. This wasn't planned just to ruin mob farms.
Dont keep saying that this update inevitably leads to another update. We do not know what Mojang is planning next, and no amount of speculation will change that.
I guess this wouldn't really be that bad as it doesn't really stop xp grinders. I mean a few extra hits isn't that bad.
I would like to say that XP grinders are not something that should be removed or disabled in the game. I believe that the ability to make xp grinders is a good thing especially on servers like those with towny. Making xp farms is optional and on smp servers can disallow XP farms and such.
Oh boy. Another one of these. Somewhere someone said that mojang was going to discontinue updating minecraft and leave it to other companys like mojang. Man I was scared half to death! This I don't believe one bit. There is no way they are going to have varying health for mobs that would just kill everything people works for in there worlds.
So don't use them, that doesn't mean no one should be able to...the whole point of Minecraft is to make things using Redstone or your ingenuity to make things easier for you. This drastically limits that and pretty much gets rid of most useful things you can build. I don't know about you but when I play a world I have pretty solid goals of what I want to make so I feel "finished" or "accomplished".
Enderman Farm
Blaze Farm
Witch Farm
Iron Golem Farm
Overworld Mob Farm (Without using Spawners.)
Overworld Mob Farms using Spawners.
Automatic animal farms (as much as they can be automated).
Automatic plant farms for every type of growable item in game.
Mushroom Island
Kill the End Dragon/Wither.
Etc.
My list look exactly like that and I plan to do everyone of the things on that list and much much more.
Myself and plenty of others don't enjoy running around trying to find random mobs to finally get up to level thirty to only get bad enchantments due to how the system is. I prefer spending my time working on actual builds and other things I enjoy about the game, which isn't possible if I have to spend more time looking for mobs than I can spend building. As I mentioned there are multiple things I like to do in my world before I feel pretty much done and stuff. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm not one of the people that can just go "oh lets put a random building over here that serves no purpose at all I just want to put one there". I build useful things that are there for a reason, very rarely will I make something just for the heck of it and this change would drastically reduce the number of useful things to make in the game.
Thank you. This is exactly how I feel. I want to make the coolest and most useful world ever in minecraft I would never be able to do that without using those things. Underground base? TNT from your mob trap. Full auto earthquake machine? Sticky pistons from slime farm. The coolest coaster ever? Gold from your zombie pigman farm. If you want to have a useful world or want to do big things in minecraft, you need the mobs in game to do what you want them to do. That includes being able to get a good source of XP. I would hate it if this is implemented in game. This could ruin my wants and goals in minecraft.

Finally someone that understands what I mean and knows that these things are a must for anyone with big goals in the game instead of just building random pointless things like I've seen some do.

Basically this. I agreed with everything. Mob exp farms are great for people who don't want to waste countless hours of going around doing random things, when it can be instantaneous with an exp farm. However, I don't really believe that randomized health values will even be implemented because it just doesn't seem like something Mojang would do.
However, if they do implement this, which I doubt, all it will really take is changing the height of the drop of the exp farms and using a stone sword.
I haven't made any experience farms (my animal farm is kind of one, considering how often animals escape or suffocate, but I digress) but won't the Minecraft community quickly pick up on the min and max health values for each mob and design their mob traps in a way where they take enough damage to be right under the min value, requiring 1-2 sword hits to kill them and get the experience? I can't imagine a sensible random health calculation making the difference between min and max bigger than maybe 20-25%.
the longer you stay in one area the harder the monsters get.
I.E. they start spawning with armour more often and have better enchantments, nothing else
IronMagus would your opinion be different if they nerf Iron Golem farms as well? If they are going to nerf how effective normal mob farms are now what's to stop them from nerfing other things like Iron Golem farms?
They already have. When iron golems were first introduced, they would spawn almost instantly if there weren't enough of them to reach the limit. That meant that you could set up a village/farm that allows several golems at once, and they would spawn just as fast as you could kill them. Literally, as fast as you could kill them. You just killed one golem, have another one already. You kill him too, here's another right behind. Farms were so effective that they had to include a way to dump the excess ingots into lava when you weren't there, so your game didn't lag from all the entities piling up. When you did use the farm, you just had to go stand underneath a steady stream of ingots, raining down from above, and could fill your entire inventory with them in a matter of seconds.
...then, iron golem farms got "nerfed completely." The golems were changed so that, even when they were below the limit, they'd still only spawn rarely. Instead of spawning as fast as you could possibly kill them, now they only spawn about once every six minutes or so. Many people cried "bawww, you just ruined mah iron gollum farmzorz!!11!!one1!11!eleven how could you" but others...you know what they did? They dealt with it, made do with what they had, and came up with a way to make it work anyway. The farms got larger and slower, instead of being quick and compact. Instead of one module that fills your inventory instantly, now you have to make several modules and space them far apart, and the iron collects only slowly, but it's still more than enough for just about anything unless you want to build a giant skyscraper out of iron blocks, or something.
If the developers decided that even this was "too good," and decided to nerf them even more, to the point where it becomes no longer worth it? Well, then, I guess I'd have to start smelting some of the stacks and stacks of iron ore I've been collecting since I set up my golem farm. It's not like golem farms are the only way to get iron, you know. There's tons and tons of it just buried in the ground.
Likewise, mob farms aren't the only way to get XP. However, if they're all anybody ever uses to get it, perhaps that's an indication that something is unbalanced. The developers work hard on this game, and they are proud of it. They want you to use all of its features. I don't feel they're trying to ruin XP farms entirely, they're just trying to entice players to use other methods, as well.
I don't believe this is a planned change. I haven't found a source for it.
I haven't found a confirmed source for it either. However I trust Sethbling enough to think he wouldn't just randomly say something without at least some reasoning behind it.

This will, however, mess with my gravity-killer grinder. I'll probably just convert it to a lava blade or something.
