Hi, I'm new so I apologize if this isn't the proper place to ask this but I have a brand new HP all in one desktop. Technically it's a HP Pavilion 23-b017c. It claims it has a 3.4 Ghz AMD A4-5300 Processor with 6GB PCB-1280DDR3-1600 SDRAM and an AMD Radeon HD 7480D integrated graphics card.
Orignally it seemed blazing fast but now that I've played this singleplayer world for a while and the file has grown it is starting to get pretty laggy. I'm pretty disappointed at this point.
I was wondering if someone better versed in PC gaming could tell me what my weak point is that's causing the lag. If it's just memory that can be upgraded but I'm afraid the graphics and the processor can't be upgraded since they are an integrated 65w unit and the fact it's an "all in one" can't help either.
Because you have been playing on that world a while, more chunks (16 by 16 areas from sky to bedrock) will have to be generated as you play. This makes your save file bigger. You may not want to explore large areas all at once. You could also try turning internet off while in singleplayer. That allows your computer to spend less time maintaining internet and more running Minecraft. One last thing to try is going to "Video Settings", and changing "Render Distance" to Normal or lower. You can also try going to "Video Settings" and changing "Graphics" to "Fast", if they are not already set to that.
It may just be that your computer cannot run Minecraft at a high performance level. I have an Asus with an i5 processor, which is pretty good, and I still get some singleplayer lag.
By the way, welcome to the forums! Hope you enjoy your time on here.
Yea Minecraft v1.5 lags horribly while playing single player. I'm averaging only 20fps now. before the update was twice the current amount. roughly 40-50 fps.

You could try going into your search bar in the start menu (Windows 7, Vista) and type "%AppData%".
OR... Open Run, and type in "C:\Users\(INSERT YOUR USER HERE)\AppData\Roaming" (Windows XP)
After you do that, open .minecraft and then click "options" (Minecraft 1.5)
Look for the thing that says "fpslimit" and change the number from 1 to a big number like 500.
Save the options text file.
VOILA!

awesome! I gained roughly 10fps. its running at an average of 30-35 fps now
1.5 seems to have some performance issues. I am getting 200+ FPS and MC is still very jerky, almost like it's only getting 20ish FPS. 1.4 with Optofine and ShadersMod was far more smooth than vanilla 1.5 is right now.
System
AMD FX 8320(3.5ghz)
Radeon 5870
16 gb DDR3 RAM
This kinda reminds me of how the Nether has always been laggy/jerky.

Thanks I have the 64 bit Java and I think my drivers are up to date. Would an increase in RAM help at all?

Nope. There really isn't anything you can do hardware-wise. Do you have Optifine?
