I'm not, though! I am very serious! Sure, it's been done once before, but it seemed like it'd suck. SO, I want to make a new operating system, but this one is where you log in with your Minecraft account, then you can play the client and start a server! It would also come with a web browser, so you can watch Minecraft videos on YouTube, go to the Minecraft Forums, and check out the Minecraft Wiki! Basically, this isn't just for the regular guy. This is for serious, HARDCORE Minecrafters. However, I will need your help. How? IDEAS! What should the operating system have in it? A crash screen with Herobrine's face on it? Different modpacks to play and make servers for? YOU DECIDE!!!! xD
I think that's a fun idea but have you ever seen the process of coding an os its one of the most complicated things on a computer but who knows it could be done.

Thank you!
One thing I should have noted though, this project may be on hold for a while. And by a while... I mean until I learn how to make an operating system!

Use SUSEstudio to make it! It's easy..
1) Chose GUI (KDE, GNOME, etc.) & Architecture (x86 / x64)
2) Choose some software or upload your own .RPM file
3) Customize! (Default wallpaper, default settings, etc.)
4) Throw in some files or scrips if you like
5) Compile for the format you choose! (Live CD, Preload ISO, VMware, etc.)
Edit: I'm doing that right now! Edit: I'm having trouble with it...
Always think before you post! Everyone (including you! - and I) make mistakes at times.

How to use custom jars in the new launcher here
Someone made this already, based on Debian or Ubuntu.
^I know it was mineOS, made for server hosting. I think what the OP wants is something kinda like steam except its completely dedicated to Minecraft and runs either on its own or in a virtual machine. Personally I think we could do a Windows shell but idk.
This would be a pretty good idea if you have a good spare computer just lying about. Pretty neat concept nonetheless, but it would be neat to virtual box this.
Eh, virtual operating system maybe, I would rather not have another operating system installed just to play around with this.
^Yeah, I wouldn't want to install some completely new OS that's dedicated only to Minecraft. I think I'm going to try to make a steam-like application, with all the functions of a launcher and also has a community interface. It will be open source, so people can make themes for it to fit their favorite texture packs and what not. Will also have a friend's list, and alow you to directly change your skin from the launcher. I think I will also make it so you can install modpacks like FTB and Tekkit. Accounts will be your minecraft account. Please post any other ideas you may have and I will see if I can implement them
This would require a lot of knowledge, and if you don't know anything about how an operating system works at the moment, you are in for a brutal learning experience.
I honestly see a lot of stuff here. Oh, and to the brony, by implement, you mean help me out, right? (and thanks for saying "like steam, but runs by it's self" because that is exactly what I meant, no sarcastic tone there)
Also, you COULD make a partition on your computer hard drive for this! Or just get and extra hard drive to put the OS on. If you don't know how to partition, TinkerNut made a tutorial on that.

It should be like "Sad Herobrine" when it crashes.
Like this sad mac, with herobrine instead:
Yeah, that's good. I just paste Herobrine's face into the Mac, then under it, say "Herobrine screwed up your computer. RUN."
Or. we could put Herobrine by a grass block on it's side with the top off revealing all the computer components and crap, and Steve cowering in the corner with an apple in his hand. (as well, if someone decided to make a computer with this OS built in, the computer would probably look like a grass block but with computer stuff on the sides and inside it.

Tried. Sucked nuts.

^ I've just started setting up the partition, yes. I'm going to try programming it Java (for compatibility with Minecraft). I will try to make this a pretty lightweight thing, though at the start it will probably be a clunky mess . And yes, I mean to help you out. This idea is AWESOME! I have been thinking of something like this for while now. What other things would you (or anyone on this thread) like implemented. We have the base work but I really want some more ideas for this to be epic Also I think TinkerNut is awesome *brofist*
Also if anyone would be willing to do things like the crash screen and such that would be great
And we need a name!
EDIT: I think I'm just going to simply start with the default Minecraft launcher. Decompile to see how it works, plus it would save some coding time as well. Then once that's done, basically copy the code that connects it to minecraft.net and alows for you to login with a minecraft account. I have also decided to use the Linux kernel as the "OS" factor. Also, and this is extremely important, this is meant for virtual machines only! It probably will have the ability to run on a computer itself, but its not very efficient. Man, I hope this works. Because if it does it will be arguably one of biggest programming projects I have ever done. So everyone who can help me in this please do! Ideas, graphics, anything will be useful! thank you in advance!
Best Wishes,

I'm subbed to TinkerNut (or as the YouTube name says, gigafide)!
Also, we should make it so that the name doesn't conflict with the existing (and possibly abandoned) Minecraft operating system, and not conflict with CraftOS on the ComputerCraft mod.
As well, Crash Screen in progress... and by that, I mean I have no idea how to start...
We could make this whole thing a community thing! Everyone can help out! YO CURSE, PUT THIS ON THE FRONT PAGE! lol
