I would not mind floating islands as a generator option, it would make a nice hardcore experience.
But saying that old world gens were like epitomes of perfection and that current world gen is a " sux" lame... it is a big overstatement.
Or am I the only one who has found beautiful and nice things.
Indev was not perfect. But Beta 1.7.3 was very close. It only needed larger biomes. Beta 1.8 made biomes larger, but removed many other things. (Beaches, random noise-generated mountains, logical temperature-based biome placement, noise-generated seas, tree density noise (It's fixed value per biome now) etc.
By seas I meant this:
Ocean biomes have much worse shores, have dull islands (Since old seas are not biomes, even tiny islands can contain biome-specific terrain. There are biome islands now, but they are large, and tiny ones are always dull and empty (Animals can not spawn in the Ocean biome).
And they are always huge. I never found a small sea in the current terrain.
Beta generator could not generate large oceans, however. But it could be tweaked.
I really hope you're being sarcastic.
You just can't compare the 1.8 terrain generator to any of the previous ones. Really, the 1.8 generator is so dull and boring. It almost doesn't have any proper mountains either, and don't even get me started on the ocean biomes.
I hope you are kidding when you say that this neon green terrain generator is better than anything.
At least 1.7 and post 1.8 ones are way better on any point than this.
Indev was not perfect. But Beta 1.7.3 was very close.
Indeed, 1.8 really [CAN'T YOU JUST ADD A BLEEP TO THE WORD FILTER INSTEAD OF JUST CUTTING THE WORD OUT]ed the game over for me and I haven't really enjoyed an update since then. :y
...1.7.3 is almost as nostalgia inducing as indev, And @people calling indev "ugly barren neon islands":
*shrug* It's apparent that our tastes differ greatly. :y
I liked alpha world gen, but now when i load alpha minecraft I simply see a world without possibilities. The new minecraft is surely more awesome. Yes it has flaws but it is not "The end of minecraft"
Something about those neon islands though...
I don't know how to describe it, They were just so appealing. ;-;

I never said that the "neon green terrain generator" was better. In fact, I've never even tried Alpha. Nor Indev, nor Infdev. Whatever.
My personal favorite is 1.7. When did I say I prefer Indev terrain anyway?
The whole topic is about those type of terrain and the guy you responded to was making a sarcastic remark about that type of terrain.
Sure you didn't say it about the indev generator, but you didn't say you talked about the 1.7 (or any other) generator too.
To any people who say something about neon green: How is the grass/leaves color related to terrain generation?
For me:
Jungle and mushroom biome grass(not mycellium, it's the same color as the jungle one.) is a nice tone of green.
Plains grass fine.
Ice/snow related biome grass is meh, but you won't see much of it because the whole point of them is being covered in snow.
Deserts grass, you won't see much of it since you need to put dirt/silk touch to really see it. It depend also if I'm into the whole "dry" feel of the deserts.
Swamp grass feel dark and...swampy. not really pretty but it make the biome a swamp.
EH grass, don't really like it much, but I Still think more trees on them would make the color more nice for some reason.
well from many posts here people think that they WERE perfect and now we have a poo on a stick.
I wasn't aware that I sounded like I thought the earlier terrain was perfect. :c
I thought it was clear that everything I say is highly opinionated and based off of personal preference. D: (1.7.3's still best terrain gen, Not my favorite development phase but the terrain was effing WONDERFUL...Dat gargamel.

But this world gen is great too. I had some sweet mountains in my jungle biome!~
I've yet to be woo'd by post 1.8 terrain, When jungles were first added I had a happyface but the novelty of the jungles died out in a few days and I quit minecraft again. :/

Well the title can be interprated in many ways.
Fair enough, but you should try living in or clearing out a jungle one day. it's a nice green.

And what do you think about tundra->jungle color transition?

I meant for the title to be vague and open for interpretation. :c
...I actually didn't mean for this thread to be "what world gen was best", The entire thread was just "I'm having a nostalgiagasm because I'm playing a version of minecraft that's as old as dirt so I'm going to make a thread for no good reason"

i wish there were still maps like this because that would be a epic map to do like a cliff side survival on

I regret having not discovered the game sooner.

It's called nostalgia.

You didn't answer the question.
So how is the grass color related to the terrain?
What do you see when you first spawned? Planks and stone of the Indev house.
When compared with 1.7.3 generator, current one is very bad.
And what do you think about tundra->jungle color transition?
Come join usssss, we has a thread for the Alpha Worldssss...
Nah, I'm just kidding. I loved when they added seeds. Single greatest update IMO.
