So I notice every night, there are no mobs spawning, I'm playing on Normal, I lit up every cave, And I did not put a single torch on the surface of the land. The only Mods I'm using is Rei's Minmap and Optifine. One thing also, I notice I'm getting lots of pigs spawning even though I killed all the pigs in that area. Any Help?
That's not normal, for sure. If I were you I'd try pressing "force update" on the minecraft launcher to fix it. This will reset your minecraft.jar which contains most files needed to run Minecraft. Maybe that will fix it, but keep in mind you'll have to re-install mods.
I guess you could also just be getting absurdly unlucky. ;P
i really dont know...... i have a spawn editor that is the only way i can think of that can control spawn......maybe you got hacked, is your minecraft one of those free third party ones, the glitched ones?
I posted a topic on this very problem in the survival part of the forums. :/ It's really irking me, but I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering this issue. Here is my topic in case you want to look. I noticed a few folk have issues with this maybe because of Optifine?
I hope if it IS a glitch for the vanilla, they'll fix it. If it's a modding glitch, we're kind of on our own until we figure out which mod is indeed doing this.

I am also having the same problem in Vanilla Minecraft since the 1.4.4 and 1.4.5 updates. I rolled back to 1.4.2 and I have no issues. Also worth mentioning, there is no problem when I play on a 1.4.5 vanilla server.

TL/DR - Try switching to peaceful for a min, then switching back.
after having to trouble shoot several mob traps, I've seen this kind of thing many times. Mob's spawn in groups within 128 block's away from you, if they are more then 30 something blocks away from you, they will despawn automatically - unless a mob group spawns on the edge of your loaded chunks, and part of the group spawns in the adjacent unloaded chunks - the mob's which spawn in the unloaded chunk's will freeze there and fill up your mob cap - until you move close enough to load their chunk, or far enough away to unload the chunk's you currently have loaded - switching to peaceful and despawning all mob's, and switching back also fix's the problem for a brief time.
I could be wrong... but have you waited more then 1 night?
Someone told me that mobs don't spawn on your first night now (first night since you last logged in)
I dunno...
Or if its a multiplayer server, make sure no one has built a mob spawner/xp grinder, when those get loaded up the game doesn't allow anything else to spawn.

Weird thing is, when I quit the world and rejoin it, Mobs spawn. But if they die or despawn, not another one respawns the next night.
