THIS TOPIC IS CLOSED! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, IT'S FROM OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR!
Here's the situation - I am running a Tekkit server with my friends and one of my friends is duplicating diamond in his Power Flower. While he is gone, his duplicator becomes full, so I take ~15 stacks of diamonds thinking when he gets back that it will be full again. So about a few days after I do this, I tell him I did so and he has a HUGE FIT. He says that I'm stealing from him and that I should pay him back all the diamonds I stole from him! However, my logic on it is that he does not lose ANYTHING from me getting a few extra diamonds. If I paid him back, he'd get more diamonds than he should've gotten!
The way I see it... you messed with his stuff. Whether or not you think he is overreacting, he has a right to be pissed off. The honest thing to do, though unpopular, is to return all the diamond you took from him. I can guess that you don't want to do that and if so nobody can convince you but it would be the best thing to do to end the dispute.

Freedom is more important than health, more important than safety or security. A life's worth is not measured by its length but by the length it is lived with liberty. Freedom above all.
I can't even start to comprehend why you think that it is fine to take his stuff without asking.
Your parents need to teach you some manners. Wow.
Just wow.
Try saying that to team avolition and all those thousands of greifers out there.... Including me, since I've been getting tons of ideas about withers recently.
thx publicenemy but i dont relly care anymore it was an exsample he kind of overreated and so did i so no more fight and hopfully he unbans me tommow
youre just a griefer

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
Even if it's true that he didn't lose a single diamond from what you did, it's still his equipment that he worked for, and you chose to use it instead of making your own. In that situation, the normal solution is some form of rent. Try to negotiate a percentage rate of the diamonds he should receive when you take excess items from his duplicator, as a fee for use of the device. You may need to surrender a greater percentage, or all, of the original load to appease his feelings of betrayed trust, however.
There is one problem though. I don't know anything about Tekkit or how your server works, but you were under the impression that the device would continue operating normally for the entire time he was offline, correct? Well, to the extent that I know how Minecraft works, that is wrong. For things to happen in a chunk, it has to be loaded; a player has to be nearby. For the duration of time that the device was abandoned in an unloaded chunk, it would not have been merrily duping away, it would be in stasis until someone was around again. Is this something you were aware of when you came to your conclusion?

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
The same thing happened to me when I was on my server. My friend was making dark matter. He got about 5 every 3 mins. I go up there and take 3. Unfortunately, he sees me and starts going off at me for stealing when he has over 9000 (just kidding he had about two stacks). So he blackmailed me to give his stuff back or he'd quit the server. He made me pay 50 diamonds and all the dark matter! By this time he had triple the amount I took from him.
Anyway, just say you'll pay him back over time. Make a machine that dupes diamonds and pay him back when you get enough. And don't tell him you took anything, it's stupid.
Though you took the diamonds when the condenser gets full the excess emc gets stored in the relays and then the collectors. So even though it did refill the condenser with diamonds you made him lose out on the extra emc that comes from the full condenser. Also stealing is wrong even if they have a huge amount of wealth; stealing is still stealing.
I had to look up wtf a power flower was. I was thinking, originally, that it exploited a glitch of some sort, sort of like the 1.7.3 block duplication glitch. But it's actually a legitimate machine created from various tekkit devices.
This is very similar to if somebody had done the same thing with a mob farm; eg; taken the drops. IMO whether a mob farm is open to the "public" should be up to the player that built it (with the exception of anarchy or PvP servers, obviously). This is particularly true in this case, where you effectively used their energy (infinite or not) and their condensor for diamonds.
That said I don't see why it requires a response of flipping out. I would have just been like "dude... not cool" (For my acquaintances on the server, if it was an actual friend I would have been fine with it).
I'm with you on this. The condenser was full so it wouldn't have been making more then, then its fine to help yourself as long as they are condensed again by the time he's back. If it wasn't full or it didn't fill back up by the time he got back on then pay him back. All your doing really is introducing more diamonds allowing for more trading and building to happen on the server :P.
Let's say you live with a roommate, and said roommate has a special box in which people constantly give him money. He is gone and you notice the box is full, so you take some of that money for yourself so that the box can get full again.
This is called stealing, I don't care if my example is unrealistic and whatnot, the point is that you took something that was not yours and did not belong to you. The value of 15 stacks of diamonds, that being a total of 960 diamond, in terms of EMC value is 7864320 which is roughly 16 pieces of Red Matter, that stuff is valuable as hell and I really do not blame your friend for flipping out on you when you took his stuff without even asking, that is just wrong, period.
You stole from him. It doesn't matter what you stole, but that you did. No matter how unimportant you think it is, he has a right to be mad. Give him the diamonds, and apologize to boot.
But the point is, lets says a chest hold 50 stacks. If OP takes 15 of those the chest will refill back up to 50. so the OP's friend is only entitled to those 50 stacks his chest can produce. if OP give the diamond back then his friend has 65 stacks. and anyway if you're on a private server with friends them you really should share
He isn't entitled to 50 stacks, he can have like 2,000 stacks because he put some in another chest.

What is your opinion on this?

I just don't see why I'd have to pay him at all.. he lost nothing from me doing that.

Then if he still having a fit just chuck the diamonds in the lava or give them back your choice
Just doing this so you know who it is
