Back in 1.2, I had 20-40 FPS with minimal settings. Now in 1.3 I have 10 FPS all the time (Apparently mojang screwed up the FPS limitor in 1.3 while trying to increase the performance). Luckily with optifine I can get to 30 FPS with minimal settings, over 50 FPS on superflat.
I can't f*cking believe how people get 1000 F*CKING FRAMES PER SECOND. Once, I was on the KDC, some chat mod was saying how he use to get 200 FPS, but when he got a "low end" computer, he got 100 FPS instead. He was all sad and angry over it. I can't see how you can tell the difference between 100 to 200 FPS, I would never moan about it. I hate people who just run around saying "I HAZ 300 FPS YOUR COMPUTER IS **** IT ONLY GETZ 30."

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
Well my fps counter is broken. It is stuck at 60fps. But with sphax 128 fancy graphics and render distance far I cannot see any frames. I personally think 60+ fps is all that you need because your eyes look at that kind of fps. People saying they have 300 fps have no better experience than 100 fps, the only benefit is if they want to play texture packs or shaders etc.

True dat. I say 60 FPS is all that an average player needs. I also agree that you'll need 300 FPS for crazy mods or shaders etc.

Minecraft has a video option called performance. Try clicking it a few times and see how it affects your FPS. Maybe you can get 1000 fps as well. My fps easily jump from around 150 to about 500 when I change the setting to the highest setting, but it depends on many different factors. My screen resolution, the biome I'm in, if I'm under ground or not. etc etc. The demands Minecraft puts on your system can change enormously so you can't really compare your fps to that of your friends without some very strict rules as where and what you are doing.
60 is all you need, why bother going over it?
fyi i get over 60 but dont pay any attention to how much over.

I get about 50-60 fps on vanilla, 70 with optifine, and 20-30 with technic pack.
Not bad for a shitty 4 year old Dell rig. Despite what everybody says, Minecraft can run on just about everything.
PS: framerates above 60 don't actually make a difference, as most monitors can't refresh their screens faster than 60 times a second. In fact, only a framerate of 30 is needed for our eyes to perceive smooth animation.
Anywhere ranging from 120-1000. My average is 240. If I turn about everything off and turn my render distance to tiny, then I could get 1000...
Maybe I should try Minecraft on my old Micron from 1997 or something like that. It's just sitting in the basement. Let me add in that it took like half a minute to launch Internet Explorer.
That's odd, having so much Memory allocated to Minecraft could harm your Framerate because of the way Minecraft handles releasing Memory.
Though your command shouldn't give it an entire 3.5 Gigs of RAM :P.

On my year old laptop, my FPS is usually 20-40 with Optifine Multi-Core on default. When I'm looking directly up or down, it increases to about 60.
My Monitor's Refresh Rate is 120, so I try to keep it at at least that.
Edit: I just wanted to add, The difference between 60 and 130 FPS is very noticeable.
(And the laptop's running at a resolution of 2880 by 1800)

That is normal. It would be odd if you ran slower in fullscreen mode.
I play at 60 with forced AA, 128x textures and various other tweaks using Optifine.
My old laptop got like 15 on tiny.
