I had seen a Youtube video here and there. It was right after Infdev. I jumped on the classic servers and thought the game sucked. Not even a week later I saw deadmau5 post about it on Facebook. I've been a big fan of Joel since a time it cost 15 dollars to see him, he was one of the best before mainstream tainted him. So, with my high respect for him, I took after his advice to check the game out in it's survival form. It was Alpha 1.2 I believe? It was a cracked version too. I had so much fun. I played for days. I couldn't believe such a game existed. I bought the game within the month. Been playing ever since. Now I'm a server developer/owner. I try and be a part of this community. It's came a long way since I was once made fun of for playing it. Now, everyone is playing it. Even Xbox.
Quite a few of my friends played the game and talked about it, and I watched some Youtube videos on them. Soon, I had bought the game and never stopped playing since. ( With the occasional 1 hour sleep break. )
Hah I wish I could have that life. Screw you school.
Yeah, so um YouTube basically. When I first heard about SMBx got shut down by Nintendo, I went to Redigit’s channel and there was some Terraria gameplay from a YouTuber. I went to that YouTuber and there was Minecraft. It was modded, so I basically got it because guinea pigs are just awesome. However, it was on a laptop, so basically it was crap (around b1.6.6(?)/b1.7.3). I decided to play again because of the adventure update. I had an awesome seed but I wanted the newest terrain thing so I wasn’t sure if there’d be any. So I deleted it. But the seed survived the new forming. Then I got a desktop around 1.0.0. And the seed survives on. Long story? I understand, there is no organization. Here’s the short story:
one of my friends had it from the day after the update after the Halloween update, Beta 1.0 i think. At about Beta 1.6.6 my other friend told me about it and i watched videos of it on youtube. I was addicted, a couple of days after Beta 1.7.3 i bought it, and played for 5 hours every day. The adventure update was epic for me.

Last April (2011) I had just bought my laptop and was trying to find some games I could play on it. I was watching the E3 coverage last year and learned about Minecraft from the big stink Microsoft made about it coming to the 360. I thought to myself, "I have got to be able to play this crappy looking game on my laptop". I bought it that day and, it turns out, it could run it (not as well as I thought but it is very much playable)...and I have been addicted ever since.
Friend had it. Watched him play and thought, have to get this. Seems strange and unlikely something I would want to play. Then, got so addicted, could not stop. I just got the pocket edition on the Ipad. Work hates me.
I heard of someone playing it and was curious as to what it was so I looked it up on youtube, I started watching "PaulSoaresJR" How to survive and thrive series and was HOOKED
Watched the first 15 vids or so and downloaded it, then I watched the remianing 39 vids to todays date!
Strangley enough, I first encountered the wonder of minecraft during my senior year in high school. We were sitting in computer engineering class chatting before the teacher got started, and then he came in and told us he was going to let us try a little game. He said anyone who could collect the most ores in the shortest amount of time would have their worst grade dropped. Someone asked what the name of the game was, and when he muttered the word "Minecraft", I thought "what the hell is Minecraft?!". . . . . . . . I did not sleep that month
