So lately I have been trying to get better at PvP, I can be decent at times but if the opposition has better armor or enchants then me I am pretty much toast =\. I am decent with parkour, I can run and hit easily and spin around, attack, then spam. I am decent with the bow as well, when in trouble I usually sprint then start shooting whoever I am killing. Whenever the opposition has a fire aspect sword it's an automatic death for me as well, I usually try to use teamwork to fight others but when I am the only one on I am s screwed.
Thanks for the help in advance, I hope I get some good guides.
Make potions. When you find an enemy, throw a couple poison and damaging ones. As long as you have some golden apples or something, you should be good.

Thanks, I am pretty good with brewing but when I throw them I always hit myself...
If I were you I would brew Strength Potions. Though they can be hard to get, they are worth it. A strength II potion adds six damage, so a regular diamond sword becomes a Sharpness VI sword, and a Sharpness V becomes a Sharpness Xl
The only way to get better at PVP is to lose a few fights. So you learn what your faults are and you can get better.
As for being equipt for the fight, never fight with anything less than full diamond armor and enchant a sword as high as you can.
Keep in mind Smite has no effect on players. Only zombies, pigmen and skeletons.
Sharpness, fire aspect, knockback etc work well on players. Although knockback, in my opinion isn't very useful as far as damage dealing. It does get them out of your face temporarily though.
Sharpness 1 isn't really worth it, if you PVP I would suggest Sharpness 2 and above. The high the better, of course. Fire aspect is always good as well, and knockback will save you a bit of time.
If you can, try to fight near water. So just incase someone does use fire aspect you can jump in the water. Or try to fight when it;s raining because the rain will put the fire out.
ANY enchantment on armor always helps. So even if it's only a level1 enchantment, do it. I always enchant my armor even if it's all level 1 enchantments.
And my final suggestion is to try and utilize potions as much as you can. Use splash poisons, which greatly benefits the attacker, or even splash potion of slowness so they can't catch up to you. Or use speed for yourself to run, and especially use strength potions. They work extremely well.
If it's multiple people fighting I would suggest using instant heal potions, but for 1 vs. 1 you probably dont need to worry about that.
Another thing I have found useful, but are slightly difficult to obtain, are ender pearls. You can use them to teleport as far as you can throw it, but the teleport deals an instant 3-4 hearts in damage. So use it wiselty.

To expect him to always have enough diamonds to make into armor is ridiculous. Especially when every diamond has been plucked out from the caves. Besides, when he is mining for diamonds, you can't say that he won't be confronted in the caves.
The fighting in Minecraft is way too simple to be really technique or reflex-based. It's usualy just a few guys whacking eachoter and throwing potions. The REAL trick to Minecraft is being a good strategist. The Minecraft world is infinite and easily alterable, so you should be able to find a favorable postition that gives you the advantage somewhere. For example, arches should generaly live in places high up on mountains, since it's easier to shoot downhill than uphill. And if you're good at charging and knocking people way back, you may want to live in a place with a lot of natural or artificial environmental hazards, such as ravines and lava pools, so you can knock people into said hazards. It's all about adaption. Or if you're ambushed somewhere where the terrain isn't favorable for you technique, change your style a bit. For example, when fighting in forests, it's worth it to learn how to easily climb and jump from tree to tree, since it's hard for poeple to reach you that way. It's all about adapting. Either adapt the landscape to fit your fighting style, or adapt your fighting style to the landscape.
ANother thing: Stealth. You generaly want to stay hidden when exploring in PvP servers. one trick if you're near the ocean or a river is to use a dark blue skin and travel underwater. If you crouch while deep underwater, you're basicaly invisible from the surface.
When you do this, use the bucket gill exploit. When you're low on air, look straight ahead and keep walking forward, and right click. This will make you scoop up the water in the bucket, creating a temporary air pocket for a split second (But long enough) so that your breath gauge refils. Now click on the ocean floor to empty your bucket and repeat.

Never thought of the bucket gill thing! Now I wanna create a team of people to go all Navy SEALS on some fools.
Another thing, always jump. When you are falling and hit a player, you deal a critical. This can be useful if you need to even the odds in a fight. You also probably know that sprint jumping is faster, which can be useful to get away from an opponent with better gear. Be careful though, it uses food up fast. If you find yourself frequently outmatched, brew speed potions with sugar to get away and save your hard earned gear. If they have a good sword use weakness potions.
I found that critting really helps in the long run. Jumping also throughs your opponent off focus, because i find that they look up to hit you so when you land they continue slicing the air, while you get the chance to hack at them. Critting, believe it or not, actually helped me win in a Iron armour vs Diamond armour fight in a landslide. I also managed to snag his Fire Aspect 2 Sharp 3 sword.
One thing that always makes pvp epic is when you use ender pearls.
If you can get behind someone in the heat of the battle, they'll never see it coming. Thus, the two hits you take when you teleport with the ender pearl are made up by the 4 hits you can get on the enemy.
But potions. Seriously. they're freaking great for pvp.
Also, use flint and steel, lava buckets, etc.
place down blocks in front of them to throw them off. doors are really useful since they automatically go two high and they freak people out when you put them down
But still, an important thing is to know your attack range. If you know the limits of your attacks, then you can hit them the instant they get in range. Remember to sprint and jump to land criticals.
if the enemy is charging at you and you can't run, then block with your sword with right click. Most people forget that you can do this.
If you have time before the fight to plan, then consider placing traps.
Finally, remember that the one who attacks first (preferably from behind) is at the advantage, because the knockback won't allow them to directly counterattack.
Hope this helps!
edit: Oh, and in case of you sneaking up on someone, hit them with arrows, then once they turn around to see you, ender pearl behind them and dump lava on them. I've won many a fight with this exact tactic.
<Insert Einstein quote here> <Insert mod/texturepack/skinshop/server/clan banner here> <Insert favorite posts here>.....As you can see, I procrastinate a little too much
Practice with a friend on the server. Play a friendly match with them and see what method works for you. I like to do the creeper-kill style. Sprint, 3 Critical attacks (Diamond Sword), go back. And repeat. And try to have good armor. With enough skill, and low-lvl enchanted diamond armor, It'll be way easier for you.
To expect him to always have enough diamonds to make into armor is ridiculous. Especially when every diamond has been plucked out from the caves. Besides, when he is mining for diamonds, you can't say that he won't be confronted in the caves.

Why is that so rediculous? not all diamonds are in caves, do some work and make a branch mining operation. You'll get tons of diamonds. And the chances of him being confronted in caves is slim, unless he's dumb enough to sit in a cave close to everyone else
It all depends on what kind of PVP you are talking about, a proper combat or not.
For proper combat, get the best armor you can and potions, damage strength and regeneration. Golden apples help alot also.
For the "nonproper" combat, a lava bucket and a stone sword (without any armor) can kill anyone. Follow your target until they are in a close area (branch mine or house are the best), sneak up a few blocks above him and drop lava. (you might need to block the exits).

I usually go with a mix, I always bring a lava bucket and usually some sort of a knockback sword. I place the lava, and hit them into it. If you're better with a bow punch works well too. I usually use potions, I don't generally make poison potions or stuff like that, I make strength. With the new update getting to level 30 is easy. I then enchant my swords until I get sharpness IV, doing this and using strength potions will definitely raise your damage. I believe it raises it to Sharpness 6. Usually speed it good as well, I use the speed to run behind them and if there is MCMMO I usally use serrated strikes.
Well, really PvP in minecraft is pretty much 'armour' trumps all'.. it's really down to the equiptment you got. Very rarely can comeone with enchanted Iron Armour take down enchanted diamond armour.
But for practising, I practise my PvP on games by basically finding someone who PvP well, and ask them to train you. Or finding someone else who wants to be good a PvP and train together.
I know I asked for some advice and we went up to 5 hours dueling each other, each time getting better and better.
I have been dueling with some of my friends and generally just raiding others, yes it does work.
Here are some tips that have helped me win some Pvp matches.
1. Keep clicking the left and right mouse to have a chance to take half a heart of less damage.
2. Potions are pretty good. Potions will give yourself the benefit or punishment. If you use the splash potions, you're opponent might get the benefit or punishment. Think of them like snowballs.
3. Enchantments can help a lot. Fire aspect can assist in slowly damaging your foe. Sharpness anything is good, but if you're not good at Pvp, then you should get as high as you can. Knockback might actually be a downfall. If a person is knocked back, you can't get multiple shots at your opponent. Although, you can recover while he is knocked back and regain some health. All up to you.
4. If gold is at a large supply, make some golden apples to regenerate health quickly. The better, but harder, alternative is regen or instant health potions.
5. Bows are great for long-range combat. Enchant to get infinity, or else you'll drain all your arrows out.
6. Enchant, enchant, enchant! Doesn't matter which enchantment really. Smite is actually useless against players. So is bane of Athropods.
7. You can bring a few wolves to assist you in the fight.
8. Lava can burn your enemies. Water can redirect you're enemies movements!
I wear shades. A user asks me "why do you wear shades my friend?". I answer"The forums change you man." He died by the hand of a forum user of the name "Herobrine" 3 days later. Herobrine's just my second forum account.
