Minecraft won't get us anywhere. I used to be addicted to games last year. We can all be better than we actually are right now. The imaginary world that many Minecrafters live in has no value in their lives.
Define waste of time. It certainly doesn't accomplish much, but I think it's a great destressor, I've learned a few things about circuits, and using your brain to solve problems can be benefitial.
Anyone who doesn't see or understand the value in recreational pursuits is a naive fool. Attempting to be productive every waking hour will only result in decreasing your actual productivity and burning you out.

Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by incompetence.

You must have time to blow off steam in-order to keep your sanity from flying the coup.
Why is this in the Politics, News, Philosophy, etc. section? Either way, Yourself pretty much summed it up. And I'm not talking in shitty grammar about the OP, I mean Yourself, like the guy with the afro avatar.
Also, from what I've heard, redstone in Minecraft is very similar to real-life wiring. The mechanics are the same anyways. I'd imagine that could actually be a good place to start learning some entry-level engineering or whatever category that falls under.
Not to mention, I've actually become interested in the Java language because of Minecraft. If I were to become a programmer in the future, I'd say Minecraft would be a significant part of my life, then.

In my opinion a waste of time can only be defined by the person who would have wasted the time. If the player felt they didn't waste their time, then it's not a waste of time. If they felt it was a waste of time, then it was. I hope this came out clearly enough for people to understand.
I started a personal server in which friends and family can use and enjoy. I would never consider it a waste of time. I live in Oregon, my sister lives in new york, it is wonderful to log in and see the virtual her doing stuff.

Reading, TV and Movies won't get us anywhere either. Nor sport, or art in general. People need to have fun, all work and no play is one of the worst things you could ever do to yourself.

Talent didn't go anywhere, it just gets lost in all the noise. You have to find it.

Perhaps Redstone is similar to real life writting, but you'll develop your writing skills even more if you read good books and write.
You don't gain much experience from using programs, you gain programming experience as you make programs. The most influential programmars like Bill Gates and Bjarne Stroustrup were not game addicts. I used to think that gaming does help in life, just like you. I noticed how useless it is months ago.

You can have recreational pursuits in a more useful manor, like playing sports, it helps your health.

Do you think Einstein wasted his time? He spent days and hours studying using his time productively. Are you calling him a fool?
You are implying that you are better than us because you don't play minecraft.
What you are implying is that we LIVE in minecraft.
What you are implying is that we believe that minecraft is the best thing ever and the only thing ever.
You are wrong.
Sure, Minecraft won't get us anywhere, but honestly, who cares?
There's no need to be productive constantly and not enjoying Minecraft will NOT make you a better person.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't enjoy life. In fact you should, but in a productive manor.

BUT WHY. IN ALL OF THE MINECRAFT FORUM.
Did you post in one of only SIX offtopic forums?
