as we all probably know, terraria has basically got its idea off minecraft, but with alot more to it now. but have they been taking ideas from each other. slimes. have been in terraria since release. after that, pistons and slimes were implemented in minecraft. originally dungeons were in terraria. then minecraft added abandoned mineshafts and strongholds. and dont go saying terraria dungeons are pretty much the same thing as minecraft dungeons, you can get lost in terraria dungeons. then terraria decided to implement arrow traps, pressure plates, wiring, lights, and BLOCK explosives. sound familiar? dont know if this is true or not, but minecraft updates are gonna make zombie invasions happen, where they can break doors and get into the house. in terraria already for a while, there has been blood moons, which cause an overly excessive amount of zombies to attack your house and can open doors. and potions in minecraft? potions existed in terraria since release. so what do you think? has minecraft and terraria been taking ideas from each other? or is this just coincidence?
i love terraria btw, it has 11 bosses, over 68 monster types, over 200 weapons and items, but the only downside is, its in 2-D. you can also dig to the underworld. yes, no portals. you can fall down a shaft to the underworld. sad thing is barely anyone plays terrraria anymore because minecraft fans went there thinking it would be good, sadly minecraft is a more casual game while terraria is more hardcore. and this difference drives minecraft fans away from terraria. it takes longer to aquire weapons and tools, and gold is actually the best ore you can commonly get. yes and gold is rare. terraria even has guns.
Even if it's the truth, why does it matter? People will always look to other things for inspiration, to help them go in a good direction. You should also keep in mind exactly who created the 'first' of something. Slimes have been in video games for a while now, and many of the ideas that Minecraft and Terraria get may not actually come from the other company. In certain aspects, they are similar, and they might seem to have basically the same ideas, but you will probably not know exactly where they got the ideas from. They could be looking towards a great variety of old and new games alike.
A lot of these things have already been done before Minecraft and Terraria. Slimes and dungeons have long been part of Dungeons & Dragons RPGs. TNT, wiring, and lights exist in the real world. Arrow traps and pressure plates? Quite popular in Indiana Jones type movies (I'm not sure how extensively they were actually used in real life ancient temples.) I think Notch may have brainstormed blood moons before Terraria was even released, but I have no idea if that's even an original idea (correlating blood moons with monster spawns, as blood moons are an actual thing.)
Your second paragraph highlights the massive differences between the two.
Both games are amazing, and if they both start sharing their best aspects I'm fine with that.
if minecraft was made just like terraria i would play minecraft a heck of a ton more, sadly that probably wont happen.
And to all, yet dungeons and stuff have been out in adventure games and stuff, but they were implemented in a CREATIVE game. and i think terrraria took the tnt block thing, they named it explosive block

Both games have aspects that each have! That's what most people seem to look at! Oh hey they both have crafting and pickaxes. Dose no one look at the differences?
Minecraft: pattern crafting and make your own start pickaxe
Terraria: crafting list and start with a pickaxe
The list can go on an on! Saying that a game took another games idea ,unless it was a total original idea like terraria having a skeletron, is silly.
Most great games take ideas from others in the industry. It would be a silly idea NOT to look at your competition, see what they are doing right, and try to emulate it, if it fits with your own product.
Well actually wiring in Terraria is relatively new, but was in Minecraft since near the beginning of Alpha (around August 2010 or so).
One thing I noticed was 1.2 making zombies break down wooden doors, and I believe that has been an ability of Terraria's zombies since release.
Obviously they both share aspects from one another though. Terraria takes more from Minecraft in my opinion, but lately Minecraft has been taking lots of things too. Alchemy for instance has been in Terraria for much longer than Minecraft. Terraria took ideas like a cubic world where you mine and place blocks, most of the basic blocks, a few mobs like skeletons and zombies, as well as several other things.
Nah , Mojang and Re-logic are doing stuff really differently.
Notch says he plays terraria, but he doe snot develop any more....
Also, its impossible for terraria to be taking ideas from MC, they are not developing any more.
Some stuff are similar, but every game has something similar with other games.
Everything that is in minecraft has been in other game in the past, dont make me make a 50+ list of the games notch could have used to " gather " ideas.
