I laugh at people who bought these rip-offs, I mean really? I had some 8 year old console noob tell me that Total Miner is better than Minecraft. His reason: Total Miner has giant spiders, and it has better graphics. And then he said "Minecraft's stupid, Total Miner's better".
****in' 8 year olds.
Minecraft is based off of Infiniminer. Notch got the diea from that game. So, should Minecraft should be considered a sort of a "clone" itself then, as it was based off of infiniminer?
Minecraft takes a concept from Infiniminer and makes it the whole game, expands and ends up with a new game, which is nearly completely different.
Terraria takes some ideas from Minecraft, makes something completely new; yet again, innovating and creating and unmistakably different game.
Total Miner, Fortresscraft and other things are effectively games that attempt to port Minecraft, and don't add new mechanics, or new ideas, but instead see a good game and attempt to capitalize on it by making a shameless copy.
The thing that pisses me off most though is when they act like Minecraft wasn't at all related to their copy of the game...

Yeah... I run into people like that all the time a school, "CURL UF DUTRY IS BETTER THAN HALF-LIFES." And then they can't backup their opinion with a single valid point and instead opt to just curse like a sailor.

Infiniminer was a sort of team work based multiplayer game that took place underground, Notch brought the crafting element to it and added an above ground. I wouldn't exactly call it a clone, but people have different opinions which I respect... unless it's, "HURGULR BULGELR" If you know what I mean?

And minecraft first started of by cloning infiniminer, dwarf fortress and some other game that i don't remember, which by time it have change but still.....
There is a line that separates Inspiration from Complete rip-off.
If you have played infiniminer or atleast read enough to imagine how the game was/is you can notice a BIG difference from it to MC, even at the start.
How Minecraft inspiration with infiniminer worked :
- Infiniminer was complely based on mining, but as notch said once a lot of users played the game to build stuff. Of course MC started as a " mining " game but it was entirely different from Infiniminer, even at the very start you were not required to mine, the game was completely made for building, you could hunt for some ores if you wanted to , but it was entire based on building.
Now that the game has been released, its even more far from infiniminer than it was before, and that is because of obvius reasons i do not need to say.
How Total Miner and Fortresscraft " inspiration " with Minecraft worked.
- From the start both were intended to be a complete clone ( Djarks even admited that he was making " MC for XBOX " in the early dev of fortresscraft, mining, building , some combat.
- After some months people started critisizing them because they having a 100% rip-off, so how did they covered the piece of crap they had in the floor? the covered it with the carpet, added new stuff.
Total Miner and Fortresscraft is technically :a piece of crap under a shitty carpet.
Anyone who refers to Terraria as a Minecraft clone hasn't played it. Its gameplay is 100% different. Also, TotalMiner has potential to be slightly good, but you can get to top tier stuff within about an hour.
It sort of went around at first, when Terraria was released, that it was a ripoff of MineCraft. I myself had been in a state of what the hell is wrong with people (as in why would you do the exact same thing and market it). But then I watched the video, and I was like, "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!?!" It wasn't like MineCraft at all! I bought it, played it, liked it a little, thought it was more of a play while on a road trip type of game. It is a serious question nowadays... what is wrong with people?

also take in mind, Infiniminer died because his programmer was a moron that did not protected his code, was leaked and abused and he ended giving away the code so even if Minecraft was inspired by that game is not the same with these lame Minecraft ripoffs that are not trying to make a different game but a copy out of Minecraft.
Now what voxel games are worth to look for in my opinion? Cube World (which was contacted by Mojang to work with them) and Voxatron, both voxel and not a ripoff at all
THIS.
I don't know, but I hope you mean later in development it did.
