Hey guys,
I was just thinking about pre-1.8 minecraft. I still have my 1.7.3 .jar, and I play it a lot. In fact, I think I'm starting to like it even more than "new" minecraft. I think it might be because I started playing in late alpha, and for a long time, the game didn't have a hunger bar and enchantments and brewing. Now, don't get me wrong. I love the new stuff, and was just as excited as the next man for 1.8, but there was something about playing minecraft in beta that I loved even more. I recently watched 'nanners' and X's LP's and also the beginning of Etho's LP, and that made me want to play pre-1.8 even more. What do you guys think about "old" v. "new" minecraft?
P.S. I also think that X's "greenhouse of harmony" video ( I think it is #15 in his series) is the best minecraft video on youtube. Just throwing that out there. :tongue.gif:

The world is an oyster. The jury is still out on whose it is. My name is in the consideration. I like that. Pearls, here I come.
On another note, I've met Chuck Norris. I'm deadly serious.
Yeah, I don't really like the end either. Minecraft shouldn't end. And I know, you respawn after watching the end text, but still..... meh.

I started playing the week beta 1.4 was released. I enjoy most of new Minecraft. The End was a pretty terrible addition, but I love the strongholds and new Nether stuff. Food adds an interesting gameplay element, and I like that health regens now. But armor could use some balancing still. Iron is either too common or too useful.
I have just about all the old Minecraft jars. Although it is very fun to play the older versions, I find the newest versions very interesting and fun also.
Started playing around beta 1.1. I think old Minecraft is better too. 1.8+ has completely ruined the game for me. I even preferred 1.4 and 1.5 over 1.7.3.
I agree exactly with Frossa, but I started playing a week or two after the Halloween Update, because that's when everyone was telling me how great it was.
There is nothing wrong with the end. I think of the end as the ender realm, not the end of the game. The "greener grass" that was in minecraft alpha can be brought back with texture packs.

Look, I'm not going to bag new Minecraft, because it's old made better.
But sometimes there's a part of me that longs for pre-beta.
Even though i joined in Beta 1.6.6 :]
Yeah, like I said, I do like the new features a lot, but there is something about them that makes me just want to go back to when minecraft was simpler. That's why I play my 1.7 jar!
And,
Ugh, not this again =_=
You know, apart from many other games, one can easily downgrade to the version of the game they prefer. I don't think it is necessary at all to write on the forums about it. You should be happy Minecraft is updating regularly, otherwise you'll just keep finding it more boring, the longer you play on the older versions.
And before you judge me, I am an Alpha player. I played before the Halloween update, so I know exactly how it used to be.
But still, I enjoy Minecraft way more now than I did a year ago.
Frossa, I get what you're saying, and I know how easy it is to downgrade (mcnostalgia FTW!) and I like to see the new features. I just wanted to see what other people thought about everything

I still don't understand how people miss the old minecraft when tons of new features have been added.I still don't understand how people miss the old minecraft when tons of new features have been added.
But srsly, the stuff I don't like (potions, the end), I don't use. That ability, along with the new content of 1.1/1.2 make the "new" Minecraft better than the old "Minecraft."
I completely agree with the OP'er. Minecraft has become more and more of an adventure game and less and less of a sandbox game. Whatever happened to being completely alone in a world full of monsters? Now it's about villager zombie sieges, abandoned mineshafts, strongholds, nether fortresses, and The End. You are no longer completely alone, there are many man-made structures that you can find, and there is an endgame! Remember when the only remnant of civilization that you could find were dungeons? Now nobody cares about dungeons, and barely give them a second glance! For me the game was ruined in 1.7.3, when you could no longer punch sheep to get their wool and punch TNT to set it off.
I do, however, like some of the newer features of the game, such as all of the aforementioned things. I believe that they make Minecraft much more interesting and fun, they take away from the essence of Minecraft.

Why do you even like 1.4 over 1.7.

Still got Minecraft jars for 1.5 and 1.7 with a lot of my favorite mods like Nandonalt's
Oh sorry, I thought this was SPUF for a second.

some aspects of 1.8 were good (mineshafts), but enchanting and villages were crap
