Here is my stance on this: I currently play from a cracked client myself. Im only trying to test out if my computer can handle it, which in it's current state, it cannot. I dont have the client I used anymore because I deleted it in a fit of rage due to having so much lag. Then there's the whole part of buying it. If I dont have the money to upgrade my computer to where I can get rid of lag, then I sure as hell dont have the money to buy this game. I have every intention to buy it when I have the moeny, but I cant find work in my area since everyone wants me to have a resume of past jobs, which Ive never had because they keep asking for a resume I dont have....
TL;DR version: Ive used a cracked client but dont anymore. I cant play Minecraft to it's fullest because my computer's crap.
Hmmm... Had I created minecraft I wouldn't want anyone to steal from me. And neither would the people currently stealing it. Yeah they need to just go buy the game. It isn't like it costs $60. Unless they raised the price.
Simply put . . . [When it comes to those that get the cracked version]
'You are a horrible person who is lower on every social ladder than me, and you are not allowed to complain when I say this to your face. Even if it was barely a lost sale since obviously you didn't want to buy the game in the first place, you still got something without paying the designated price of the product. Would you be fine with me taking something you spent time making without paying for it if everyone else paid for it?'.
I have no sympathy for those that pirate things and do this ****.
Although to a degree i'm OK with people pirating things from other countries [Like anime/manga, because holy hell nobody is willing to read Naruto if they were forced to pay for the damn thing]. But if you have every reason and way to pay for it, then sure, pay for it, but if you can't, then DON'T. PIRATE. IT.
I think its not so bad for the one who actually can buy it but the credit is not accepted to buy the gameLike me
But for the one who doesnt actually care and does not wanna try to buy or even THANKS the developer, its totally ****.
OMG, I have been arguing this in another topic, so I'm going to focus on the bright side of things.
To all cracked client users you can still play, but it would be good to support the developers of Minecraft by saving up money and buy it. It's not going to cost you a bomb as long as you save up money.
Popularity is sometimes better than profit, though. I got cracked Minecraft a few months ago and I recently got my parents' approval to buy it. BTW this copyright **** is too complex for almost everyone to fully understand (including the 100% angststy piracy-haters)
well, as PeligrosoBlanco keeps saying, I DID finally "purchase" the game. My friend sold me his spare account for $15 . I think that would qualify as purchasing, because my friend payed full price for it, and was awesome enough to sell it to me for a very cheap price.
(what happened to the good ol days with lots and lots of demos anyways?)
I know right? I ALWAYS remember being able to find a demo for a game I was considering buying, and there are some game franchises I became obsessed with from a demo (Stronghold, anyone?). Now, the only true official demos are Beta Tests, and even then, most of the time they are buggy pieces of ****.
I owned a cracked copy from 1.4 all the way to 1.7 (although to be fair, I stopped playing between 1.5-1.6 because I got bored) but once 1.8 came out I immediately bought it because I wanted to play on legit servers with my cousin and friends.
Needless to say, if I hadn't downloaded Minecraft at first, I wouldn't be here.
The cracked version served as a "demo" of sorts to me.
Notch has said that he doesn't care about cracked minecraft, but in my opinion, I think it's just plain dishonest, and that people shouldn't use/play it. Say what you will, it is stealing, and it will be until you buy the game. And really, people. It's not that expensive. Compared to, I dunno, Skyrim, which has way less content, it's like half the price.

The world is an oyster. The jury is still out on whose it is. My name is in the consideration. I like that. Pearls, here I come.
On another note, I've met Chuck Norris. I'm deadly serious.
PIRATES SHOULD BE SENT TO CONCENTRATION CAMPS.
HURR DURR MY MOM GAVE ME MONEY SO I CAN CREATE THREADS ON FORUM.
Cant tell if trolling or just stupid....ehh anyway, you dont need money to post onthis site you dont even need to own the game soo yeah sorta pointless...if trolling (which i think this is) ehh yeah ._. the caps are unneeded
If everyone pirated their games then there woulden't be any game development.
Currently its the honest PC gamers who are paying for ALL PC game development while the millions of pirates are playing entire collections of games that woulden't even excist if it wasen't for other gamers paying for them. They are ruining PC gaming for everyone else. If it wasen't for the millions of PC Pirates who refuse to buy games and pirate everything that comes out then we woulden't have DRM as we know it today. Pirates are being used as a scapegoat for more restrictive DRM.
If pirates were just in their thousands they woulden't be a scapegoat for more DRM and less PC game development. Even games companys who are AGAINST DRM have stated that their games get pirated over a million times. I'm willing to bet the same is true of minecraft. I bet theres more Pirates playing Minecraft for free with no intention of paying a penny then there are honest gamers who have paid for their copy of minecraft.
The hard reality is most people are not honest. Most would steal/copy/pirate their games/movies/music if they knew 100% that they would get away with it. A vast amount of them won't pay for it later as they will reason it out in their heads that "insert company" already makes enough money.
whats an opinion matter on a law anyway?
Maybe if there were enough people to write a new law banning/endorsing pirating networks, but the gray lines exist for many practical reasons, some reasoning being the word free, and other reasons pertaining to how copyright infringement laws operate / how servers and P2P are treated separately than those whom occupy their domains.
But all of this, in the grand scheme of things, mean little to nothing, since change is not likely on either parties side.
i been playing a cracked version since last year my idiot elder brother give me a crack version instead of the real one when i ask for it for my birthday saying its a game not worth it right now im saving money for it (KFC gets in the way everytime)
Cracked games are for testing IMO. Because of lack of demos or simply to be able to test the complete thing and have a better view to decide to buy or not.
But, I didn't even do that for Minecraft. I just watched several videos, reviews, and decided to buy it directly without testing.
I'm just against people that use cracked games and NEVER pay.
im a cracked user and im not ashamed of it,although im still trying to get my friend to buy me a give code so i can play(but i'll return the money of course) im using a website and the people running it are actually quite nice. they keep telling you to buy the real game and support Mojang.
I personally like the idea of cracked minecraft, there are many people out there who, for whatever reason cannot buy the game (financial problems, no paypal support in their country, not owning a creditcard etc.), would like to play the game and why should you deny this to them just because "pirating is bad"? It doesn't do any damage to Mojang, because I can guarantee you many people who used the cracked version at first will eventually buy an account, and the rest will simply stop playing the game after a while. Cracked is like a free demo, and wheter you belive me or not, I think that it's a good thing, it gives people who cannot afford the game to experience it and buy it once they can. Of course, there will always be greedy people who abuse this, but hey, don't punish the entire group just cause a few members are causing trouble.
Agreed. Sometimes, people don't have the extra $26.95 to spend, but want to buy the game anyway.
TL;DR version: Ive used a cracked client but dont anymore. I cant play Minecraft to it's fullest because my computer's crap.
(I don't like pirated minecraft)
Oh and Notch also pirates.

Pretty much.
Then my friend got it for me because I liked it so much.
So IMO it's like a demo because you can't play SMP without hamachi.
