So I went to the Nether for the first real time recently. I had been there before, when it was new, and in creative mode when that came out just to see the update, but I had never really played there. Back in the day the Nether didnt work in multiplayer so I had nearly forgotten about it.
Anyways, I decided to do my first real attempt at surviving the Nether, and it was Hell. It was difficult, even with armor. I died alot, because of my own foolishness and greed. Just one more blaze rod, level up or just a bit more glowstone led to me seeing the game over screen a few times. It was easy to get lost due to everything kind of looking the same. I was tempted to kill myself just to get back home. But it was the pigmen that killed me the most. Though it wasnt out of hate, but to teach me a lesson.
The pigmen, you see, wander around the Nether and are quite passive. Until you attack that is, then they swarm you doing alot more damage than I expected. Sometimes it's like they drop out from the ceilings behind you to beat you down. So why did I attack them? Greed.
I knew they carried gold nuggets. I wanted those. I could use them in health potions. Or combine them into gold bars. But gold bars are more easily mined than collected from pigmen. One in 4 killed pigmen drop one gold nugget. It takes 9 to make a gold bar. In the time it take to get a bar and a half of gold from pigmen, I could mine 10+ gold bars. But for some reason (maybe it was the heat) I was willing to bring the armies of the damned upon myself for those itty bits of gold.
Though they wield golden swords and make aggressive noises, they are not there to hurt Steve but to tempt him and judge him.
