Jeb posted that they're hiring someone to work on the AI this Month? If I recall correctly.
I see that and I see the fact that just one person is working on minecraft full-time, and I can't imagine they are hiring another person to only work on minecraft AI full-time. That guy has to be to help out more than just Minecraft. We'll see though.
Well, I'm betting Notch decided months ago he would step down because he read this section of the forum. Even just looking at the first page is enough to make any game developer quit there game.
If Jeb can make some nice features, then all ****ing power to him. Notch was the one that made stuff, Jeb fixed it. Jeb seems like a realist. He fully supports mods and wants to get the Mod API out first because he knows the internet can do more than him, and he fixes/tweaks all the things that need to be fixed and tweaks.
Notch is OK but Jeb deserves to be head honcho. Notch is still working on Minecraft, he's just not the leader anymore.
I think all this Notch hate is uncalled for. I have a feeling Notch has been working very hard on Minecraft the last months. I don't think he has a normal 9 to 5 job to say it like that. The problem is that he talk more about his spare time activities than his work. A very bad idea when you are dealing with such a demanding group of people.

Doubt that is the reason, he just got burnt out(which is sad honestly after only 2-3 years, most games take 6 years to complete especially for a indie company).
But if that is the reason, then shame on Notch. You should never just quit because of a few whiners on a game forum, every game in existence has them(for a recent example check the Skyrim or SWTOR forums lmao). Your in it for the customers, and if you can't handle that then your game deserves to fail(Note: MC is not a fail, just needs to be finished).
As long as he still works on it I'm perfectly fine with it. And besides everything Jens has done has been good, so I'm not worried. And as much as I like notch, he's lazy, I think Jens is less lazy.

Well, you haven't seen "Super Paper Mario". It mocked those whiners on their own forums BIG time. Those "whiners" must have gotten to the developers on some level or another.
I'm not concerned at all. Jeb has done everything right and has put most of the work into the recent versions of Minecraft. Shame on those who hate Notch even more now, the man has been developing this game for years now and has made what most of you people spend a lot of your free time on yet all you have for him is disgust and disapproval.
I still respect Notch, he has made an amazing game that I very much enjoy and will continue to enjoy for possibly years to come. I've been playing Minecraft for about a year now and it hasn't gotten stale in the slightest.
Notch can work on other projects or take time off if he wants and if you're mature enough, you'll agree with me. And if not.... then, I guess, hate away...

I like how right after this was announced, jeb added regrowth to sheep wool...
Notch is amazing at making the foundation of a game, but after it is settled down, he does get a bit lazy. Either way, both notch and jeb do really good working on the game.
Notch is a great developer, but he was clearly lacking interest and inspiration lately (he can do the foundation for a game but not the rest).
But Jeb already did a lot in the very small time he was in charge. More than Notch could have done.
I think Mojang would make better work if things worked like this: Notch creates a basic game and then Jeb finishes it. Seems to have worked in Minecraft.
To everyone hating on the change: It'll lead to more varied development, I see no problem in that.
To everyone who thinks it's "about time" and hating on Notch: He made this whole game exist and you should respect him. He may have got a bit lazy recently, but he's still a great designer and coder.
so they start developing minecraft now!
Cant wait until minecraft is released, it will run stable and have a lot of features
We must sacrifice one hundred Creepers upon an alter of obsidian to please the new god of Minecraftia.

I'm pretty happy with how game development will be from now on from this news, but I have 2 reasons not to like this:
1. What WILL be added from now on? Unlike Notch, Jeb hasn't mentioned anything he wants in this game in the future. Development will definitely halt by the time Jeb adds everything Notch promised. Who knows how long it'll take before it starts up again?
2. The change would still be a massive change even if nothing's different. I mean, if you read pretty much anything Notch said when he was developing this game, it still feels like you're reading it as if the game ceased development entirely.
But even so, if Jeb actually comes up with something, we'll be getting that very quickly. So we've got that, an improvment in the rate of updates overall. So I guess it's good news and I respect Notch's decision.

If I was in Notch's shoes, I would step down too. I say this based on personal experience. If he lost interest in the game development, why continue when others who feel more enthusiastic and motivated can take off from where he left off? I don't see anyone wanting to change too much of the game to lose that feel which inspired so many people to play to begin with. If Notch were to continue developing something he lost too much interest in, then I believe that would show with future updates.
I build 3D Models for contract work, and some models are so elaborate I actually hate them by the time they are done. Then, the model still needs mapped, pivots and hierarchy setup. It's a huge relief when someone else can at least do the paint scheme on the model. A good paint scheme can take quite a bit of time to complete as well and is the 2nd most time consuming part of the process.
I say, good luck to Notch and thanks for creating the beginnings of a great game.

Notch is incompetent, lazy and downright insane in his design decisions.
Jeb's first action is to commit to a modding API. I already like him 250% more than I ever liked Notch.
