I also realized something. The over abundance of caves not only makes it too easy, but think about it. Nobody makes gigantic mines anymore. You simply cannot. You run into caves everywhere.
This^
I stopped playing for around 9 months and just came back, within 15 minutes I had 5 diamond (lucky?..maybe) but then I started digging down to bedrock and before I had hit bedrock I had gone through 2 huge cave systems.. (probably 1 GIANT cave system)
I love caves... but make them less....of a spiral wormy mess, and make them fewer.
I've had the urge to play Minecraft recently but everytime I get the time, I quit within 5 minutes because of the repetitive terrain. It's really disappointing because I love the newer features Mojang have brought to the game.
Why are they so reluctant to address this issue? It's obvious by this topic, many others feel the same way.

This.
Doesn't it bother you that its pretty clear they are aware of the issue yet do nothing about it? I think its because they already have the new generator and don't feel like significantly editing it because there are in fact people out there who enjoy it. Most of those people never played beta and previous so they don't know what kind of epic natural structures they could have found. I think they use that as a reason to brush off this topic. Why not keep this one and get a new one as well? Then, in the create world options, we select the generator? I know you can do that with mods but I want it on multiplayer, and i also want more people to recognize how awesome the old terrain is.

I personally wouldn't mind, as long as the old one (at that point in time, it would be the 1.4.2 generator) were to be labeled as an alternate and also came with a warning label.
Joking, of course. I'm not entirely sure I see why people like the new generator. I see literally no reason at all for people to like it when there could, in fact, be a different generator that outclasses both the current and old generators.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

Believe me I don't know why either. I don't think they necessarily like it, rather they don't care/ are simply satisfied. And mojang doesn't wanna have to rid everyone of their current worlds, they feat the reactions.
And I also want to point out a new observation I had. So, in the new terrain, people make it look nice with buildings that have a nice style to it. In other words, its just buildings people make now. For instance, take a look at the mcforums news page and look at the " MINECRAFT NEWS - AWARDS, APPS & A PRE-RELEASE!"
the video thumbnail shows a cool lighthouse. Clearly lighthouses have no use in minecraft, its just aesthetics. Thats what Im trying to point out. People seem to make only aesthetic style structures. And when one sees this it makes them excited to start playing but in reality thats very challenging to make. It seems that in pre 1.8 people made a variety of different types of things
I don't get the mindset. Who looks at the earlier terrain with giant floating islands spewing lava or other crazy landscapes and says oh that sucks - needs a lot more flat. I can see for builders but it sure has killed my exploring. I've got a world I had from 1.3 with a huge rail terminal I just put in that I've stopped work on because there's no terrain that will be worth the travel.
Just me or is gold MUCH rarer as of 1.8? I never had any problems finding it in 1.7.3 (was probably too easy), But in the new versions I have a hard time finding any.
I just loaded up a new server world (I'm not sure if the single player and the server use different generators but I came across this in an extreme hills biome)
Now, I'm glad I found some overhangs that go through the hills, but terrain and biomes should be two separate things.(so biomes of the same type could have different terrain and be exciting to explore each time. and there could be conditions so some biomes can't have certain terrain).
edit: also my main gripe with extreme hills is that they are clustered together which means valleys and depressions are either not there or are very small.
edit2: I don't think depressions happen at all to be honest.

I really miss the old beaches like the 1.7.3 generation. Minecraft is getting into the role playing as if this was real life. I really want to have the old generations back!
ChaosGuardian is a person who is going to send it. I will not, because I'm afraid if they see it's the same guy again, they would ignore it automatically.
I wouldn't say it's officially complete. There's a few things I need to address in the letter that need minor adjustments. But trust me, the integrity of each statement in the letter will more or less stay the same. It's the little things that count -- even if it's really small, it could make a huge impression. I haven't really given my input because I've been busy for the past couple of days and I haven't gotten a chance to actually work on the letter. Again, everything will pretty much stay the same.
To everyone else:
Unfortunately I cannot speak of further development of the letter on this thread because a lot of people's inputs would be unorganized. There is a particular set of people working on this letter, and when we are 110% sure we have no more things to consider, we will post the final draft here, and THEN we will hear your inputs. This way, the community is not left out, and we can deal with this issue in an organized & justified manner. Just a little more time and I promise it will be done. Do not be frustrated. I don't care how long it takes to write this letter (well, I do, but you know what I mean). The quality and persuasive value is an extremely delicate factor.
It's probably caves. I found a LOT of gold just exploring caves. I once fell and died with almost full stack of gold, and said 'meh' and explored cave and got another stack. If I was mining more regular way I'd be angry.

Too bad texture packs can't add any trees, huh?

That's weird. I just fixed it!
I'll see what I can do. It might be out of my hands.

Anyone?
I noticed nothing, but I can't confirm it.
