Yeah, the terrain has become boring. Really, I don't even play MC a lot, I just like the forums. But yeah, the terrain isn't interesting, and biomes don't really generate in between others. I know Jeb and Notch were probably leaning toward slightly more real-life, but really? All of the minecrafters who care about anything aren't leaning toward real-life. They just want fun, adventurous, even random gameplay! Come on Jeb! Change the biome generation!
Wow, people are still whining about this? It's been what, 6, 8 months?
No it wouldn't, it would make matters worse. So we're supposed to have mountains in the middle of swamps? Or on the plains, a biome that is supposed to be rolling grassland? No, there should be mountain biomes, just like there should be places where there are no mountains.
*laughs* im sorry Whinners and Haters in this thread is making me laugh BOTH of you is wrong!
Extreme Hills biomes should be replaced with a Mountain Biome (True Mountains) and Extreme Hill should spawn in any biome EXEPT Plains, Swamps, and Mushroom Biomes.
The chances of a True mountain thats not in the Mountain Biome would be slim (about 5% or Less), and in sed Mountain Biome *Red dragons can spawn*(*That part is sort of off topic*)
You guys also seem to confuse what we mean by Hieght Varriation (ugh... once again...), it DOSE NOT mean that we want mountains all over the world but the same ammount of Extreme Hills(or mountains) in the world NOW but spreaded out
Damn guys find a middle ground, dont go high tword the Aether, or low tword the Nether(if you can get the metaphor)
You like it how it is now. You insult us because it's perfect for you as it is now. Maybe we should insult you, because you like the new terrain generator, huh? Majority of the people don't like the generator as it is now. Insults like ''You're bitching 6-8 months'' won't help you. I agree though that there shouldn't be more height variation as it is now in plains, mushroom islands, and swamps, because it wouldn't make sense and would be annoying.
Wow, people are still whining about this? It's been what, 6, 8 months?

I apologize for the rude response you received but underneath the rude comments, his post was actually accurate. What we are asking for is height variation in all biomes. Obviously not including biomes where mountains are unnecessary (i.e. Swamps, Plains, Oceans (except on rare occasions.. but then it would technically be a Mountain biome within an ocean biome I guess..), and biomes like that.)
We are not asking to make the map generation just a giant total eyesore, and if I recall correctly, the 6 - 8 months that you are referring to, most players were just whining and complaining about the current generation whereas we have brought forth the issue in a mature, educated, and highly detailed fashion. We are being specific in what we want added to the terrain generator while at the same time being mature and level-headed about it. If Mojang implements it, great. If not, that's awesome too! Everyone will find a way to deal with it.
All in all, we are not asking for mountains spammed in every single biome, just taiga, some grass lands, forests, etc.. We want it to look nice and uniform while at the same time varied and random. You should check the OP for examples.
How was I insulting anyone at all? If anything, my comment was a statement of fact; it's been almost 8 months, people are still bitching about it and nothing has changed. Do you think I was referring to you personally as a ***** or something? Well here's my response, and you can take this as an insult; grow a pair and man up. You're quite welcome to insult me all you want; thing is, I don't give a **** what random people on the internet have to say about me, especially when they can't tell the difference between an insult and a general criticism of people's persistance in futile tasks.

Actually, not to take sides as personally I feel hostility is unnecessary in a thread like this. A simple discussion or debate would suffice but the lack of maturity coming from both sides of this argument is just overwhelming. Honestly I think you both should put a sock in it and grow the hell up. Act like adults and settle this as such. And, again not taking sides, but your first post did come off as pretty hostile. I think you need to learn the difference between general criticism and just being a straight up jackass.
Comes in saying he won't take sides and preaches maturity
immediately takes a side and calls one guy a jackass for having opinions over videogames
: ) I love these forums.
I did not take sides. I did not call him a jackass I simply said he should rethink the difference between voicing his opinion and just down right insulting players. The post is very comprehensible if you'd take the time to read and understand it. I did not take sides as I feel both sides of the argument could have gone about this differently and acted as adults.
Edit: A player enters your thread and immediately he says "Wow, 8 months and you all are still bitching" - honestly it's a bit insulting if you'd put yourself in anyone's shoes who supports this thread. Think about it.
Just because you say you don't take sides, doesn't make it true when you single out someone and call them a jackass over their opinions : )
Also despite his initial post content, responding to him in a remarkably condescending way certainly isn't a mature route to go either.
No need to keep this argument going as I did not directly call anyone a jackass and in no way meant to insult anyone. I feel they were both immature and coulda handled things differently (Not taking sides). I feel everyone is entitled to their opinions they just need to show a little maturity when voicing it. We do not insult players who oppose this thread, there is no reason for them to insult us.
To be honest the terrain is NOT horrid now, we never said it became garbage, we just feel that notch made a few small mistakes, but he also fixxed some things(like the farlands)
The thing about the terrain is that once you explore to a certain extent every thing become quite predictibal because all seeds and/or worlds look the same, so the only reason to explore is just to go on an arran or to just finnish the game it self, the terrain became so dull that no one explore for a challange, looking for a good place to build or to sight see, the only diverse area's in a world is the nether and jungles(which is way too common, also lessening the value of cocoa)
Infact almost every thing in minecraft seems not all that great anymore after 1.8, ores became very common (even diamond), Clay is just spammed all over the place, because the fact jungle are too common that cacoa beans also lost value, and mossstone will soon also loose value
The hole point of this post is that the terrain makes it seem like your given everything for you and exploring have became a chore(espetialy with the massive oceans), the reason for varriation is for the reinstresed of the terrain and other minor fixes so that the game can feel alive.
Chill the hell out, people. To the supporters, please don't try to reply to people stirring up unrelated arguments. It'll only make things worse. The mods here will classify this thread as a site for rage and flaming and the people who originally stirred up the arguments wouldn't care less if this thread was locked. Try to be civil and forget about the "he said she said" thing going on.

Nowhere in this thread states that we want mountains in every biome. We're also not asking for mountains to be spammed wherever they appear, which is happening in the mountain biomes right now. Honestly, I cannot see mountains in swamps either, but swamps are a little bland as of now. I'm not asking for extreme height variation but I only see them as a land that's flat with mushrooms and regular trees containing vines. I wouldn't mind hills here and there in a swamp, but obviously they need to control the rate of height variation in those obvious biomes. They could just make the rate of flatter areas higher than the rate of hilly ones. I don't see the problem there.
This also goes for plains, but I think plains would look very cool with a mountain here and there. Again, the rate of flatter lands would be much much higher than the rate of any extreme height variation. Finding a plains biome with mountains spammed everywhere would probably be very rare and very valuable to some players who like that exploration can be a part of minecraft. However, things like these, that I see will bother YOU can simply be ignored under these circumstances. Want a flat plains biome? Go find it, because it is very possible. Think of it this way:
Plains biome
Frequency of flat areas = 98%
Frequency of hilly areas = 1.5%
Frequency of mountainous areas = .5%
This isn't a "slider" option by the way. It'll be the coded frequencies in the game for every world you make.
Edit: In this case we're also not talking about the frequencies of the chance a plains BIOME will be completely flat, hilly, or mountainous. These percents will cooperate with the areas or chunks within the biome itself, not the WHOLE biome.
I think you're coming to the conclusion (like many other players) that one thing we consider will always be the case for every time you visit a said biome. That is what is happening with the current generator. It won't be the case for the generator we are considering.

Yeah, I apologize for that. Just everyone was getting a bit out of hand it was getting rather aggravating. I kept my mouth shut as long as I could but some of our supporters need to chill out as well. They're letting these opposers stir them up and that's not what we need. I can't really say anything though I've let them get to me as well but I'm trying to control it It's just a little upsetting when they come in insulting us and expect us to say nothing back. It's just down right rude, ya know?
But I hear where you're coming from I'm sorry won't happen again!

I totally understand where you're coming from as well. But face it, this thread has the voices of many players that support us and this can be very influential to Mojang's decision. If this thread was locked, it'd drown to the bottom of the forums, and if I created another one, or if anyone else did, it could be considered a cloned thread to the moderators of this website.
Any chance of this thread being locked is extremely dangerous (and I don't mean to sound like a fame addict). This goes for your thread as well. So basically you can reply to them, but just talk about the related things.
BRB, updating the OP. I'm going to add something in...

True, true I see your point. Some of it's not even worth getting angry over any way, tbh. And not trying to be rude or anything but sometimes it seems like a lot of them are just trolling and want the thread to be locked. Then again, I could be wrong, who knows. :/ Ah well.
While I do agree the OP doesn't show the best comparison, and is in need of an update, it's hardly "cherry picking". Back when the was/now picture was posted, the terrain had almost no variation outside the "Extreme Hills" biome.
I believe @ChaosGuardian wants to see height variation return to most, if not all biomes, rather than being restricted to one or two particular biomes.
Let's go BACK! to 1.0 to test this.
No, it was cherry picking. Granted there aren't super amazing, but the also aren't just flat, which is what the was/now picture was implying. Also, if it was only an issue with 1.0, why has this topic continued to exist?
So the terrain isn't boring because the current terrain generator has an extreme hills biome with extreme hills?
When it comes to mountains, I know some important things that made the old generator better than the one we have now:
1. Tall mountains could appear in any biome
2. Mountains had more varied shapes
3. There were different kinds of mountains (sandy, snowy, forested...), also in all kinds of shapes and sizes
(see 1+2)
4. Finding unusual mountain landforms felt like an accomplishment
5. Bluegreen grass was nonexistent
You can't argue that it is somehow wrong to have a problem with that...
However, this is just a small portion of all the problems that many players (including me) have with the terrain generation.
On another note: I don't believe that Mojang is going to bring the old level of variety back into the game. The terrain has barely changed if you consider that it was like that since September last year. The problem will probably be solved when you find yourself a good terrain mod that works with the upcoming mod support. However, I still think it's kind of sad that Mojang isn't interested in fixing/optimizing all the existing game elements (especially terrain gen.) themselves and instead just add new features that are partly superfluous for the gameplay. Mojang has more than enough money and I don't think they are a true indie company anymore when it comes to Minecraft development... although they haven't really become professional developers either.
Straw-man. If you look closely, I was refuting the claim that "You will never find anything like this in the current generator."
I don't like 1 and 3. I don't think 2 is quite as true as you think. 4 would apply MORE now. And for 5: Texturepacks.
Straw-man. I never claimed that.
It's the one people keep coming back to.
Some people (like me) like the new terrain generator.
Just take a close look again at the pictures from oCrapaCreeper and then again at your pictures. Maybe even take another look at the OP and the quotes shown there.
Then you MIGHT understand, that nobody thinks, extreme hills do not exist but that many people think, the extreme hills biome is boring at the moment and that extreme height variations should occur in almost every biome and not just in a special biome.
Those weren't even the best cherries. I could have taken more time to find better ones, but I was on a server (since I knew where the mountains were).
Side note: The "quote" system didn't grab Creative_Explorer's post and put it in my mailbox, so if I missed your argument, PM me.
