Sometimes you still get a really great world, but that's about once in a blue moon. So far I have been experiencing, 9 out of 10 times I spawn in some jungle biome that's like a damn maze and if you have Millienare like me installed, villages spawnned in jungle biome's tend to be horrible.
I personally am not seeing any cool lakes, I remember in the beta I used to have some cool, pretty large lakes in the forest and other biomes. But now all I find are 1 block deep puddels of water.
I haven't played with the vanilla generation for a while but aren't all lakes now formed the same way? Like all of them are circular and they go down pretty deep in the center.
Every seed is definitely not completely identical.
But I will admit, I miss the old terrain generation. They need to add some old features like gravel beaches, awesome overhanging cliffs, so on.
But I still wouldn't call the terrain boring. It just lacks some features. I really miss the beta terrain generation, and adding some of the old features would make the game a lot better.
Yes, I think they just need to split the bios in to two categories. Have forest, mountains plains, and then decide if its desert, green or what type of trees... weather should be an after thought. make each bio have its own weather pattern.

I think there shouldn't be a mountain biome at all. Mountains should be able to spawn in most if not all biomes.
And there are too many never-ending tunnels as well as abandoned mineshafts. Part of the fun with exploring natural caves you found was actually finding a big one to explore. But when every cave you find is neverending it's no longer exciting, it's routine.
Give us back the big forest hills where we place little watchtowers, or deep valleys that we can build bridges across.
While there is more "things" in the game now, like extreme hills and ravines and such... the whole bread and butter of the game, the actual terrain itself, has become unappealing and not very inspiring to explore and build in.
Or have ExtremeHills as rare as Mooshroom biome, and add elevation possibility to all biomes as well as tree-possibilty everywhere, and then also the chance of tree-free areas in taigas and forests. It would make me satisfied.
Extremehills should be extreme.
Extremehills now is no more than regular hill/mountain variety in the old seeds.
By extremehills I'd expect to see.... floating islands, huge overhangs, mountains that reached up to near-max elevation... and, important, trees and stuff ON the actual hills.. not just... nothing... big hills with nothing on them except the random cows and creepers.
In 1.7.3 I was really looking forward to the update thinking it would be a place where goblins are in dungeons(not the spawner dungeons real ones, like castles underground) and the npcs people who talk to you, give you quests, and DONT have wierd noses. Then there was the talk about DRAGONS and imagine riding them, along with the fear of a new herobrine named an enderman, who whenever you are not looking teleports towards you, like a weeping angel. Now I know that jeb has taken over now, and he is still getting used to running minecraft, but I would really like it if he could go back to these fantastical mythical propeties of minecraft I really enjoyed.
the biomes I see, are cool but there needs to be more variety. I had to travel an insane distance in my world to find some birch trees, and the mountains I've come across are bald and boring, aside from their shape. Mountains should have trees.
My world has many cool ravines, and I don't mind that some of them break the bottom of the ocean or something and have massive water columns. But the terrain needs to have more biome diversity, there are literal stretches of hundreds of meters of endless swamp.
The main problems with the extreme hills biome is that it is the only real source of big hills/mountains. I think they can look spectacular and all, but they are a bit unfocused.
I don't want the extreme hills biome to go though. What I'd like to see is the addition of the ability for individual large mountains to be generated anywhere (a large lone mountain towering above a forest would look very imposing), and for genuine mountain ranges to exist too (long chains of mountains creating barriers in the terrain).
I'd also like to see plateaus (large areas of elevated land, not just pinnacles), escarpments (steep slopes running down from a plateau) and more trees and water (lakes and rivers) to appear at elevation.

Maybe after the restoration of height variation, the extreme hills biome can be edited into something else or possibly become rare? I was thinking about toning down the forced mountain generation (while keeping full height variation in the biome) and calling it the wasteland, since it looks dull.
I agree with this thread 100% - been here since nearly classic and the terrain doesn't even compare to what it was before 1.8. There's no competition there at all! The terrain now is so dull and life-less.. flat and predictable. Before 1.8 it was exciting to explore and enjoy all the land formations. Hell, before 1.8 I was never a "settle down and start mining" kind of guy .. before 1.8 I don't think I ever wanted to go find diamonds ... I think now everyone's so obsessed with diamond mining and finding the perfect mining technique because that's what we've been reduced to. We can't enjoy exploring amazing land masses anymore - because they don't exist!
Bringing back older terrain formations from before 1.8 will bring a lot more diversity to the game - and a lot more excitment. It might even bring back a few players as I know one or two personally who quit the game altogether just based on the terrain generation change altogether! Please, Mojang, if you have any sympathy for your player base at all, we are begging you, please bring back some aspects of 1.7 land mass generation, please!

I agree with my fiance 100% ...The land is so boring now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lately, I've had trouble playing sp. I start a new world, but I lose interest a day later, and delete it, not sure why. I haven't known why this is until I found this topic. The weak terrain has worn off, and can't keep my attention.
PLEASE, everyone. Tweet, email, or contact Jeb, asking for a way to fix this. Just a small "1.7.3 World Gen" option in more world options would fix so much.
I bought a new gaming laptop during 1.7.3. So my old laptop had 1.7.3 on it when I threw it into storage and forgot about it. I had been tortured for many months with ther boring new worlds just like everyone else until the lightbulb went off in my head a few weeks ago, lol. I have now been making new worlds on my old laggy as fcuk laptop and am going to start transfering them onto my new one. Its kinda sad we have to resort to things like this to enjoy the game. I know theres supposed to be a mod out there for 1.7.3 world generation but I dont like dealing with mods so as long as the old laptop doesnt die this is how Ill stay sane intil Jeb fixes world generation:P

We want to explore again, Jeb!
Nah. Would rather have features from 1.7 incorporated into current generator or at least have the current generator up to par with 1.7's level of variety. I want to enjoy the new biomes and features (jungles, plains, ravines, oceans, etc) even though they will probably need future tweaking as well.
If I wanted a 1.7 terrain option, I'd get a mod or downgrade the game. The current standard for minecraft's terrain really sucks right now, and that standard needs to change. No more options.

Well, yeah, I would like those new features combined with the old world generator also.

Should've made that clear in my post
