I've been thinking about starting a team deathmatch type server on Minecraft. It'd have multiple maps, each based on awesome seeds with buildings and bases and whatnot added to them. Combat is really revamped in the new updates, and I think it'd be cool to have a server dedicated purely to it.
Anyway, this is a topic for speculating the idea of a team deathmatch server. Just input your ideas, suggestions and advice, as well as posting some cool seeds that you think would be good for a PVP map.
And if you're a plugin developer, it'd be super cool of you to post here offering your skills to work on a plugin for a simple TDM game :biggrin.gif:
So, here are a few issues as of now:
*Don't know an efficient way to change maps (Use Multiverse? Not really an expert with plugins)
*Don't know whether matches should be based on how many kills each team made in a certain amount of time, or the first team to get a certain amount of kills
*Various other plugin issues. Not really sure how I'd do the teams (I'm not sure if you can auto-assign people with the Factions plugin), or the protection.
Feel free to give suggestions and general discussion of the idea.
Another thought: In every map, each team has 5 buildings (Apothecary, Enchanting Room, Barracks, Shop, Quarry). Each building would have a different use.
*Apothecary would be a place with a brewing stand, cauldron, and a few chests with potion supplies. The idea is that someone can stay at base, brewing potions and buffing team members. Supplies are limited, but more can be bought at the Shop.
*Enchantery is, well, a room with an enchanting table. There will be a few bookshelves, maybe 2-3 for a decent range of enchantments.
*Barracks is a room with many general-use combat supplies. Armor, swords, you name it. However, the supplies are limited. Armor and swords only go up to iron. Diamond tier stuff can be bought at the Shop.
*Shop is basically a store with iConomy. Right click signs to buy several items, be it potion ingredients or diamond armor and swords.
*Quarry is the team's source of money. It's essentially a room with a 16x16 quarry, that's all stone, with occasional lava and gold. Players can mine and then sell the gold for money in the Shop. However, both teams' quarries would be pretty out in the open, so making gold runs will have to be aided with the protection of well-armed people.
There will also be archery outposts and hidden chests with useful materials scattered throughout each map.
I'll check it out. I think factions might be preferable though, due to the lack of friendly fire.
Can anybody think of ways to make each team's base harder to just go into and massacre everybody? I kind of want the area between the two bases to be the warzone, not so much the bases themselves.
I made a complete-the-monument PvP variant where teams must break the obsidian heart inside the enemy's castle and steal the wool inside. Once all three wool are taken back to your team's castle and placed on the monument, victory is declared.
It's called Siege! and I've been looking for a PvP host
It's not deathmatch for the most part. It's goal-oriented with the option to build and destroy. A deathmatch occurs if both teams tie after two rounds.
Give it a look and tell me if you're interested. I'd be glad to play some PvP. Might be able to get a few friends to join in as well.
No offense, but can you please not plug your map on this thread? I'm kinda trying to develop my own game. Still open to ideas, I don't want it to be purely a slaughterfest with nothing else to do. If anyone has suggestions, let me know.
So, I'm thinking the quarry will have (very rarely) silverfish blocks and lava to make the monotonous process of mining a little more exciting. I'm thinking it'd kinda be like the quarries on prison servers, just a worldedited chunk of stone with some ore as well as hazards in it. The quarries will be close to the middle of the field for both teams, so the miners will be attacked often unless they have someone accompanying them on their gold runs.
Also, giant archery tower outposts for sniping. Yes.

That's the problem with deathmatch. It usually does go that way. There may be a few thing you can do to add some spice to it though.
Maybe divide the terrain between factions with a valley. The valley makes it hard to read the other faction's territory, but once they do, they can activate a piston bridge that spans the valley. Allowing their team to cross.
I've also liked the idea of rewarding people for being tactical. Have their natural spawns be somewhat away from wherever the base of operations is. That way, when someone breaks another player's bed, they have to run to get back.
Placing ruined fortresses on strategic locations in the map would give players footholds on territory. They would of course have to fortify them a little for defense. You could also put supply caches in these.
Again, sorry if I offended you, your post just came across as trying to advertise your map.
But yeah, I do think something goal-oriented might work. I liked your map's idea of having to break an obsidian heart. I think something similar might work in my map. Both teams could have a small cluster of obsidian, and whoever's is destroyed first loses. Would you mind if I used that idea? I'll give credit.
Also, I love the idea of having a bunch of little intricate buildings (i.e. ruins) as tactical outposts and whatnot. I'm planning on having the maps being very detailed.
