TL;DR
I think the 11.11.11 release date is to ambitious, and a child-like optimistic goal set by notch, because it "is cool to release it on the same day as TES".
TL;DR
I really do. I feel like, while this game is amazing in it's current state, it lacks to much to realisticly fit in before the projected release date. The "Adventure Mode" he hinted at a while ago being a small example. Is this really about to be all we get? There's possibilities for 100s more aesthetic blocks. All types of things to add to the atmosphere. What about aquatic life? Coral maybe, and a sea creature or two.
Now there's the possibility that he will add plenty of updates after the final release. But when it comes to release I want some idea of a finished project. I don't want to have to keep scrapping maps, or generating new land every time he puts out something new after the game is "finished." And I get the sinking feeling there will be at couple times I'll have to scrap map generated after release, in lue of some new feature.
There's also the argument that anything I want I can get out of mods. And that's fine and dandy. Mods are one of the biggest factors in how popular and successful a game becomes. Mods give so much to the community and make it rich and refined.
But at the same time. Effectively, mods divide communities. Not by the drasticly different views or opinions. But it quite literally has people playing different games. If I make a map with a bunch of modded and new blocks, then I can't share it with other people without making them jump through all kinds of hoops.
TL;DR.2
I think Minecraft has a insane amount of potential more than Notch is willing to tap into. Because he's slightly blinded by his success, slightly lazy, and not the best programmer.
You have summed up everything. :tongue.gif: This is pretty much it. Why can't Notch listen to the community a bit more? The ideas they are comming up with (including my own) are far greater than anything he has punched out yet. And that adventure update we were all excited about didn't really bring much at all... And I HATE having to constantly scrap and switch out .jars and files for mods because most of the big ones don't work together. A mod called Toomanymods was great but the creater stopped working on it. Minecraft is really starting to loose its creative touch and is definately in the communities hands right now.
you didn't hear? Notch already said he will NOT be able to reach the goal of 11.11.11 he will have to release it later. its supposed to be around the 18th
Edit: also he wont stop adding new content after the full release he will probably release expansion packs i can see it now *Underwater Explorer pack!* alpha and before buyers will get them free but beta buyers and full release buyers will have to pay (Sorry! but Notch promised the alpha and before buyers awhile ago beta players)

7 days is not a big difference. I also addressed content added after release in my OP.
Well hell, if you don't like the way Minecraft is made, make a damn "Improved Minecraft" mod if you can do any better :sleep.gif: Then watch how the Community responds to that...Or better yet! Make your own Minecraft clone except BETTER!

technically you do not need to "scrap" maps just explore more. Its just like when biomes were released they were being generated in newer generated chunks

I already addressed mods in my OP. Such a suggestion as yours would be detrimental to my desires.
*puts on english teacher mask* now that you have stated your thesis please back up your claims with evidence.
I would love to say that you made a valid point, and It would be, If minecraft didn't already have 3,638,542 sales.
not to mention the other millions that play it with out purchasing it.
The 11-11-11 release date is not a "IM GOING TO ADD IN MILLIONS OF DIFFERENT ITEMS,BRICKS,MOBS,ECT." the release date is when the first final 100% stable copy will be released.
I joined on in alpha and can say, that from when I first played it to now has been a big difference, from the original eight mobs, to the current 10-12, from the most basic blocks, to differing bricks, iron bars, pistons, ect. What you have to realize is the fact that most games don't release alpha modes, and if they do release a beta its usually a closed beta. What notch lacks in skills, he makes up for in design.
And how is notch lazy? most games, take runescape for example, only do major game changing updates annually, if not biannually.
Tired of people who disrespect java, one of the MOST flexible scripting languages and is in every single computer, smartphone, and tablet, and used on billions of websites.

i was literally going to say the exact same thing ^ ^
Well, considering there is a code freeze after October 12th or somewhere around there, and how fast they have been pushing out pre-release's, I say there is a good chance of a 11.11.11 release date.
I think you have some good points, but to be frank, I disagree with most of what you said. Even if the game is finally released, this isn't the kind of game that someone can actually finish. There are thousands of people playing it without mods, and a lot playing it with the same mods, even if they divide the community, that's not a real problem. And I don't think Notch will change too much the biome generation system after version 1.0, because that's why SO many changes were made now that the beta is almost finished.

He codes in java for crying out loud.
If you're a small map maker, send me a PM and if it's good enough I'll advertise it in my sig.
