Terraria has an end (not really, but once you get all the gears and defeat all the bosses, it's over, the game itself focuses more on the RPG part, so you don't actually wanna build and enojy as many things as you do in Minecraft), my personal opinion is really good, i enjoyed playing it, but it took me less than a week to do everything available.
On the other hand, Minecraft is way better in terms of creativity. Terraria is really cheap, so you can try it out and then buy Minecraft.
Well, this depends. First, they're not even really that similar. Minecraft is either a survival or a building game, depending on how you play it, and terraria is really more of a metroidvania style rpg with more exploration then mining. And which one you'll like more depends on who you are. It's rather obvious that if you ask in the minecraft forum, they'll tell you to get minecraft (and a few uninformed people will say that terraria is a minecraft rip off) while the people on the terraria forum will probably say to get terraria. You could say a lot of the same things about both games, ie you play for a week and then have nothing to do, but that really depends on the person too. Both have pretty strong online with available pvp, both allow you to build what you want, it's just really up to which one you find you have more fun with.
I will point out that terraria is on the verge of a major update, and when I say major I mean "adding more blocks, tools and mechanics then minecraft has ever had, all in a single update" major.
But really, they're both good games for different reasons and they aren't terribly related.
Desfinately Minecraft. Terraria is WAY too limited. I played for 110 hours then quit forever. I've been playing Minecraft for a year now though. There are no mods for Terraria and no texture packs either (that I've heard of). The big things about Minecraft are redstone, the 3D aspect and mods. All of those don't exist in Terraria. There's just so much more to do with Minecraft. I've played both Minecraft and Terraria. Minecraft is simply more fun, and for much longer.
TL;DR version: Get Minecraft if: you like building machines and structures (redstone and the building element of Minecraft)
Get Terraria if: you like quick updates (which will slow down), secret updates (not much info given on the updates before release) and RPG style adventure
I need help! I only have so much money and I can't choose which on to buy! I mean i'm on a MInecraft forum so your all going to say MInecraft, I just want some onset opinions.
well im not going to be biased they are both good games so if you have 30 bucks buy both!
Well i m gona say Minecraft Becuz Minecraft is Way better then terraria idk whats it but my friend plays it its something like minecraft but not the same view as minecraft
Terraria is a very awsome game, its an adventure game that you can "win" about 3 times then get bored and wait for an update. Yet still better than minecraft in many ways.
Minecraft
a game about survival, its a 3d game about building lile you want. Very awsome too, better than terraria when talkin about the building part. Id buy both. Cause when you'll be tired of one you can play the other. Earn...money...
So Which is Your Choice??
Mine is MINECRAFT Obviously
lol

Minecraft is more sandbox-y than Terraria. It has such perks as much larger design flexibility by being in 3 dimensions, and being able to build certain contraptions with redstone. In addition you have mods and texture packs as others have said. Other noteable things that Minecraft has that Terraria does not include Minecarts, a far more expansive overworld (Terraria is a solid land mass with an ocean on both sides) and I speculate that Minecraft will most likely have more biomes over Terraria.
I believe Minecraft also features many more block types than Terraria, but I may be wrong.
Terraria feels more like an action game but is still sandbox-y. With terraria, you get a much larger variety of weapons than you get with Minecraft, a good number of bosses, and a much wider variety of enemies as well as items and gear like a giant flame sword, boomerang, chain mace, grappling hooks that let you climb all over the place, jetpacks, magic spells, star cannons, water breathing potions, gravity potions, etc. One of the things you will immediately notice is that weapons, tools, and armor in Terraria do not break. In addition, large worlds in Terraria are extremely large vertically. Especially digging straight down to the Hell area. (Minecraft will only take about a minute to get to the bedrock. A large world on Terraria took me a couple hours to get to the very bottom.)
Minecraft and Terraria are a similar concept, but they are far from being the same. Again, I'd strongly suggest getting both. However if you want to lean more on creativity, start with Minecraft. If you prefer more action-adventure (fighting bosses and such) then Terraria might be what you'll want to start with.
I have to say that if you want to get a feel for sandbox games and want to be part of a very large community that offers many mods, texture packs, etc. then choose minecraft. If you want a game that is just as immersive as minecraft but costs less then go for terraria. Either way, you are still paying for great games.
Terraria is finished and its well done in every way. Its what minecraft should be in 3d. That being said its 2d so... you will get bored with it eventually.
Minecraft is the way to go.. but we'll have to wait for modders and the likes to actually finish this game for them, because November is coming fast.

I would delete the thread now that I own both, but i don't know how....

Aside from the obvious differences (3D vs 2D)
