Every release adds new things, forgets to address and fix old ones, and each update seems like a half-complete step towards a finished game.
Since 1.7, things look kind of bleak. I'm not sure this game will ever be finished, to what it COULD be.
Honestly, I think Mojang is going to use these as a way to continuing finishing the game long after the actual release date. Minecraft on 11/11/11 will be as incomplete as it always has been, and these post-release updates aren't going to be "extra" content (like new maps on an FPS), they're going to be the kinds of releases that should be out right now. They will use them as an excuse to continue at this crawling pace of completion, release an unfinished game on 11/11/11, and keep completing it long after that. And the worst part is half the community are such Notch Worshippers that they'll be okay with that.
Your missing the whole point. The point of Minecraft is the fact it isn't always getting new features. The game will always be like this. Minecraft was actually completed a long time ago. The only reason why he is having a release date is so that he can get rid of the "beta" from its name. I persoanly like the fact that he keeps at features to Minecraft. I wish all game developers were like that. Team Fortress 2 is the same.
Also 11/11/11 isn't the release date. He was gonna release it that date along side with the MineCon, but the convention center he wanted was booked that day so he pushed it back a week or 2.

Thoughts?
define what it COULDbe like. Mojang is pretty busy with minecon and all that. However I do agree with you (somewhat) and yes I agree with some things being out right now (like the fact we had to wait like 5 months for the 1.8 release) and what do they give us? a PRErelease. Seriously 75% agreement with you after re-reading your post several times.

im ok with this. that why i like the game. you get used to playing one way and then there is new **** and you have to adjust your play style. the game to me thought has always felt complete until now, since there is now half done ideas. but that's because 1 update got split into 4 chunks remember 1.7 was supposed to be the adventure update not 1.8-1.10. there just trying to keep the demanding community happy personally i do not care. its a game. its fun and i can spend hours just building **** and surviving

No, the came hasn't been completed. You may think that, but if Mojang wanted to say it was done, they would've said so.
i don't think minecraft will ever be "complete" or "finished" there's too many possibilities. and as for the pre release it's actually speeding up the process because it's for bug testing if he didn't release the pre release then mojang would have to test out and find all the bugs themselves which would take awhile because they have lives and other projects to work on other than minecraft. with that said i would be fine with an unfinished version to be released on 11/11/11 because it will be unfinished for a long long time, and also 11/11/11 is when they hope to release they already said that they might not be releasing on that day it's unconfirmed so if it's not ready it's not being released. and if you don't worship notch you shouldn't be playing minecraft.

There's a few very exceptional Mods that could be implemented quite flawlessly. The community is pretty split on what should be added to the game, but as of right now, the Menu, World Creator and etc. are the most important things that need to be updated and polished.
for someone with a lot of doubt, you sure do seem to stick around a lot. i see the prereleases as an early update with the official release just a bug fix update. and just so you know, release dates aren't always set in stone. they'll push the date back if they have to to do what they need to do. just look at the 1.7 update that got split up and released later. 1.8 release that got pushed back. and who knows that they'll do within the proposed 2 months until final release. i'm just wondering what the final release will be like. "here's the game you've been playing for 2 years now, but it's finally official!"
Listen, you obviously know nothing about the definition of Beta versions of games. It means that the game isn't fully finshed yet, and is being tested. (Beta testing) And the full game will be released on 11/11/11, Notch is only releasing it in parts due to the fact that he chose to let people play it during Beta. And, in order to keep people playing it he must release things. And Pre-Releases are early versions of the actual version. Don't cry to us on how you can't wait for it to be finished. Keep this crap to yourself. You bought the game AS IS, you should be grateful he lets you even play it in Beta.

Well I have a lot of hope for Minecraft and think that if enough people grab hold of Mojang's attention they might realize what we've been asking for.
The pre-releases are okay with me, but they should just tell us everything they're working on for that update just to qualm doubts.
1.8 took too long and while it was pretty feature-filled, it mostly took existing things and improved them.

Hey, you obviously don't know how to read, this thread isn't about pre-releases, its about POST RELEASES.

now what fun would that be? if you knew what was in the new release it would be no fun, like i didn't know about the new nether mobs and when i found them it freaked me out it was exciting fun and that's what minecraft is about so if you want to know every last detail of what's going to come out get a job at mojang.
and stop complaining about the length of release dates they come when they come notch has a life and he's also dealing with minecon a lawsuit and he just got married so give him a break

Oh well, no one still wants to hear you cry about this little worthless matter. And as the others have said, Minecraft will never be finished. So just quit Minecraft if you disagree.

where is the surprise if they reveal every single detail about the update? they shouldn't be obligated to share everything because that spoils the fun. where's the discovery in that? it's like reading spoilers about a movie minutes before you watch it. enjoy it for what the game is and not how they make it.

It's a BETA, we are all testing the game, if they told us what was coming, we'd be ready for it. Plus I don't care if they tell me the whole thing, there's no fun in not knowing.

No, Jeb seems to be taking the game in the right direction from recent twitter posts I think. The more RPG elements the better, but honestly, there should be a separate mode for all the kiddies who like minecraft how it currently is.
I disagree. Post-release updates are to add new content not necessary for the base game to be complete. There are a few more things that are necessary for the vanilla game to be finished in my opinion, and any more content after that is welcome.

I'd love to see post-release support, but I still think that the release date will be much more symbolic than an actual full release. There will be huge bug fixes and performance fixes after the release, as well as stuff that could've been added instead of trivial things like Mooshrooms.
Mooshrooms are an example of things that should be put off until Post-Release updates. They're welcome, but right now, there's much more important things that need to be fixed and updated in the current built.
