I found out about it from household hacker last year but it didn't interest me. Then in february when I saw how much it had grown from a friend I bought Beta.
Well, that's where I FIRST heard about it. I first actually looked in to it and found out what exactly it was in depth thanks to the TF2 announcement on Steam that was talking about it.
I was playing Roblox *I was 10* and I said something about runescape and he said Minecraft is better >:ohmy.gif: and I looked up online what it was and then two years later it popped up on my machinma video subscription and I was like I GOT TO HAVE IT NAOO!

I saw a link to a video about how to survive the first night, I think it was on Fark but it might have been elsewhere. Anyway looked interesting, I figured it was worth a try as cheap as it was.
I first heard of it on 4chan's /x/, on a thread about video game creepy pastas. Then for a while, everybody there was obsessed with the game, making livestreams, creating servers, looking for that forced meme we all know so well. It got annoying really, but the name of the game stayed with me. Then months later I watched Zero Punctuation's review of the game, and that convinced me to try it out.
When they announced it for the 360 at this years E3. Im not a PC gamer anymore (I used to be a PC gamer with my 1X cd-rom drive back in the early 90s) so I hadnt heard about it till then.
Sitting in my Linux 1 class at school, watching my buddy play. I thought it looked dumb as hell and then he let me try it. Was around alpha 1.2 I think?
Read about it back in late 09, early '10? I guess, then I saw a video of some guy building the NCC-1701-D, and was intrigued, but was hesitant to buy at that point.
Then the "website crash" came where you could log in for free, and I played for 3-4 minutes, but due to my colorblindness had a WHOLE lot of problems seeing.
Then a buddy opened an MP server in June '11 which I logged into for a few minutes, saw it was much better color-wise for me, and bought in 2 minutes after that.
I found out about it from someone on The Writing Café back when MC was pretty much in its infancy, before they even had bricks and whatnot. The WC is actually a pretty cool place. We talk about games, TV shows, and just whatever. Right now we just moved from another site so we have moderator positions to fill.
Found it through my future brother in law who was playing it around Christmas. Loved the look of it so bought myself a present. Then went to work after the holidays had finished and then found out that my boss had been playing it too!
Most. awkward. find. ever.
Although I think I stumbled upon the game when it first developed (2009).
