When is a game more than a game? Have you ever heard "Dude, calm down, its just a game." spoken by some unknowing noob? I mean come on, spending several hours building a wooden house to have a faulty fireplace burn it down is.... depressing. So is Minecraft just a game, or is it a little bit more? For me, its Legos on steroids with a side of crafting. I don't live for the monsters or the caverns, I prefer building things. Others live for the kill, and others just like to explore. So what is it? Is it a architectural simulation, a first person hack-and-slash, or a free roam exploratory game? I think its all of the above. So saying "Dude, calm down, its just a game" is like saying "Dude, that submarine you spent 3 weeks working on isnt worth it, so go crawl in a hole and die." So is Minecraft "just a game" or is it a little bit more?
It is "just a game", although that term is usually overused. Just because it's a game doesn't mean that it's somehow inferior to other things you could be doing ,like homework. (Jk, do your homework before video games.) And MC is the kind of game that can have infinite time spent on it without running out of stuff to do.

I wouldn't call myself a noob, and I've said that plenty of times. It is just a game. Nothing more.

No. It's a lesson. Wooden houses and fireplaces don't work well together.
So is Minecraft just a game, or is it a little bit more?
At the risk of sounding slightly repetitious, It's just a game.
So what is it?
It's a game.
Is it a architectural simulation
No.
a first person hack-and-slash, or a free roam exploratory game?
Now I'm lost. neither of those is "more than a game"...

No. saying "Dude, calm down, it's just a game" is like saying "Dude, calm down, it's just a game". Anybody who thinks minecraft is more than a game is deluding themselves.
I am but a humble student of life. Come, let me show you what I've learned!
Never.
