Hi, new to the forums been playing minecraft single player on and off for just under a year.
Iv'e had an idea in my head for a while, just curious what others would think of it. Minecraft is a world with dangers and limited resources, players need food and shelter, and acquiring resources takes labor, giving them a value that could be represented in the form of legal tender. So an organized minecraft server would deal with the same problems that world governments would deal with but on a micro-scale. Has anyone elce played with the idea of using SMP to simulate different government systems? A marxist server? a capitalist server? a communitarian anarchist server? an capitalist anarchy server? a mild socialist system? or maybe all of these governments on one server as separate states with borders to simulate world politics? It would take a lot of dedicated players to fill the roll of politicians, police, business owners, blue collar laborers, tax collectors ECT but i think it could be very interesting, especially comparing the progress of each community.
I think a few mods would be necessary, such as players must eat and drink once every few day cycles, and much bigger consequences to dieing so that ethics have more value (a few deaths and your baned?) There would be very little moderator intervention and players would have to settle their disputes through in-game legal systems created by other players. the economy system woud have to be developed by the players as well.
It would take a lot of willing people who really want to see it work and are wiling to take on specific rolls in the make believe society but i think it could be very interesting as an experiment. Especially when the nations go to war.
Huh, it's not going to happen anytime soon, just finding a huge amount of mature people that know what they're doing at each role, this is probably never going to happen.
I think it would be an interesting experiment indeed although I don't believe ban is the answer to an amt. of death a player has, for they die to often and the server(s) would quickly run out of mature enough players to tend to the needs of the Government. I know this wouldn't be realistic but maybe some form of tax upon death. And then there is the hackers...
yah it would take a huge number of mature players and wold be nearly impossible but not totally. sure most players would not mesh with the idea but with over a million people who play and far more if non-players were recruited i think the project would have a chance.

what if every time you died you lost all of your assets and your name, making you a brand new person? Just so that public safety and murder are relevant issues.
I've thought of the idea before wanted to implement it but you would need an alot better server then I had access to you would need at least 60 people or so per nation along with the moderators to make sure there is not any cheating.
With how many different forums of monetary systems would also be hard to simulate. Simulating death can also be difficult you could allow people to say have in game reproduction to allow re spawning and it would take along time to carry out so death would mean something.
War this is difficult because to pull it off you would need people online all the time so maybe limit the server to the day and try to get as many people in a single timezone.

like a 5 hour per day session? thats a good thought that way you couldn't do something while the cops are asleep. But ideally there would be enough people to take shifts but a short daily session would make this much easier sense you cant sign off in real life.
I think that 3 or 4 small tribes of 10 to 20 to start with and established leaders would be enough to get the ball rolling.
I dont think taking a long time to carry out death is necessary because in real life you can end a life by pulling a trigger, there just needs to be heavy ethical consequences of killing and recklessness.

The only consequence of killing would be public out cry your not really taking a life out of the world but then again if you get people who can rp they can act like it, but alot of this depends on the community you get to do it.
Also you might want to create a custom map and border it some how or find a really good seed.

I think a death should make a player loose all of their assets, and their place in society, loosing everything they worked for in that "life," plus a name change. Deffenently would nt be able to re spawn for a significant amount of time. Say a leader or a cop is killed that player can no longer be in that role unless they earn it again as a newborn, but in therory a VIP role would be replaced before that happens. Yah willing RP'ers would be a huge part of the equation.
Lol see if the modder who did the Consuela Mod will do it. If not, maybe just reskin the zombie.
why have a mob? why not just skin a real president? it would me much more meaningful to support/dislike/defend/blow up a real person playing the role of a politician you feel strongly about
you wouldn't have to run for that you would just do it and in theory you would be apposed by the government but have a good chance of being successful if you have affiliates.
You could just use a mod to hide real names so if some one dies they are forced to change name. Also should not be aloud to speak of there old life so know one knows what they doing before.
First off, you would need a LARGE amount of players for any such system to even be useful. I'm talking a few hundred, otherwise having a government for just 10-20 people is silly. Secondly, you would then need a server capable of hosting that many people and connections at the same time.
Once that is done, it would just be a simple matter to install some economy add ons and let players figure it out for themselves. The problem is of course the server hosting itself.
You don't even need realism TBH.
Admins tend to have their owns style of governing their digital world.
For instance my server is a triumvirate. Me, my brother and a compatriot I met on one of his own servers. I hold absolute authority but I let the other two govern as they please so long as they are not too harsh.
It's interesting to see how many people act out when they find out we have no tribunal system for trialing people accused of being greifers and or just all round dickheads (we just ban them). So this indicates to me that there are servers out there who have a sort of governing system akin to democracy or at least one with a sort of judicial system.
Edit; LoL Despot and Triumvirate contradict each other.

Hacking has it's place, scientific development with questionable ethics to be regulated (or not) by each states doctrine
