I think that Notch really messed up when he decided to add the NPC villages. The point of Minecraft is to be ALONE in a strange land isolated from society. Whereas the NPC villages are being established and all of a sudden you aren't alone any more! This my be a great idea to some, but to me and many others, we think it is stupid. The worst part of it is: Say you find a beautiful landscape, waterfalls, beach, flowers everywhere, but on top of it is an NPC village taking up your spot that you discovered, how bad would that be? (Meh, maybe I'm getting a bit too far) All I am saying is that the NPC villages take away the main plot of Minecraft, feel free to leave supportive and negative comments about saying how this idea is stupid or that I am stupid, thank ya.
I personally think that as you said beautiful landscape, waterfalls, beach, flowers everywhere if there was a NPC village on top with the power of your fist and some wood and some trees you could easily bring her down.
I think NPC Villages is a great idea :biggrin.gif:
If you saw someplace cool couldn't you just go and destroy all the NPC villagers and their buildings? Plus think of the NPC and another Mob, either they can be friendly or vicious.
yeah adding villages may mean your not alone but when u think about it after a while of solo playing, minecraft starts to lose its appeal [still fun] but you can definetly use some other people
I personally do think it is a good idea. I look forward to seeing what all that has to offer? Maybe quests? Families? (probably not, it could get weird..) Battles/War? It will be interesting to see how Minecraft comes out within the next year.
But I do know that you cant please everyone, someone will always hate something
Notch: Oh, okay. Obviously the thoughts of a small minority of people on the forums has convinced me throw a feature I've been working on for a month and that many others will enjoy into the garbage. Oh, well. Maybe I'll make guns after all.
While I agree with your point that NPCs ruin the lonely feel of Minecraft (and I personally don't want them in the game either) it is highly unlikely that at this stage of development they won't be added into the game. Complaining wont get you anywhere, as it hasn't for anyone else who has complained about any other feature getting added. (Beds, the new logo, wolves, etc.) Just suck it up and destroy the villages if you don't like them.

The point of Minecraft is not to be alone. Minecraft is meant to be as realistic as possible, to represent real things, but with it's own fun little twist. I think NPC villages is a good idea because what fun would it be in real life to be alone all the time?

Why you be a minen' in me mines? If you need to contact me, a private message is the way to go. I almost never come back to a topic after I've commented on it.
After I read "plot of Minecraft" in the OP I knew someone would do this.
Anyway, I hate NPC villages. I lost faith in Mojang when pistons were nerfed. Everyone that says "Just destroy the villages herp derp" really need to understand how tedious that task would be. Going around, destroying buildings that you can't even burn down (Made of cobble and wooden slabs). I agree with the check box addition even though I'm sure it will never be added.
Here's the thing: while I agree with you that part of Minecraft's appeal is the feeling of isolation, adding NPCs doesn't automatically have to ruin that. I think that depends mostly on whether or not they are human, and every indicationwould seem to suggest that the NPCs will be pigmen.
Just think about it. Rather than being all alone in a strange abandoned world, you're a lone man in a strange world sparsely populated by strange humanoid creatures. What are they? What do they want? Are they friendly to strangers like you? Should you hide from them? Even if you do form a friendship with them, you're still more lonely than you ever were.
And if at that point you still don't like them, and you don't wan't to take the effort to pillage and plunder them, then just take 60 seconds and walk away from them until they're well out of sight. I doubt they'll be so common that they'll be impossible to avoid. That's the nice thing about a sandbox game, you don't have to take advantage of every feature, but it's there for those who want to (like me).
For the skies! For Galaxia!
SOmetimes it would be cool.
Sometimes not.
How about a checkbox when you generate the world for villages or not.
Give a man a fish, and he'll be fed for a day.

I second this.
Since when?
Can we get a source on this?

OT: This is one of the things I have been waiting a long time for. I hope it turns out well...
