okay I see the problem here. The simple solution is not to add a new unique repeater but only make it so the lead in side connects directly, that way power out will still work normal and power in would be easier

So yea, it would seem that the only change is Redstone will now recognise a repeater as something it can connect to, so it turns the way it would turn if the repeater were just Redstone dust. Frankly that seems like the way it should have been in the first place.
This - make building circuits better. I don't think there's any real justification to opposing fixing what looks like to me to be a bug. Yes, even though it breaks things.
No, they were intended to be how they are currently, otherwise they would of fixed this long ago (really simple fix too)
Don't know if you have been following the update cycle but there have been heaps of persistant yet easy to fix bugs that have lasted a long time. Notch only got round to fixing most of them in the 1.5 or 1.6 update, can't remember which.

Notice how jeb uses them in that video?

And he probably got tired of redstone wires not interacting directly with side-by-side repeaters like the rest of us who voted "upgrade the current repeater". Requiring that extra block of space to lead into a repeater, or that extra sunken block of space for the repeater is just plain annoying.
And there are quite a few annoying things that can be streamlined for a better playing experience.

I don't know if this was already said, and I'm not sure if this is 100% true, but I don't think your machines will break, actually. Just because your redstone devices will not be connecting to the repeaters does not mean they WILL connect when the update possibly comes out. It's like tall grass, remember? In all your worlds, wherever you explored before the update there was no tall grass. Why? Because the updates don't affect previous things before updates because it doesn't realize it needs to update old objects already created. This is just my guess, though.
It shows repeaters not needing power directly pointing into them, but he has not approached us, the redstone users, about this update.
He shouldn't have to approach any of us on anything. We're playing in a game we knew was still in beta as far as the development is concerned, and thus things would be changing regularly. That's how a game progresses from initial concept to finished product, after all; we just get the opportunity to watch first-hand as it goes through that evolution. They could change up the entire mechanics of how anything in the game works, and not have to "ask us."

GENERATION 20: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
I highly doubt they were intended to work the old way.
And you should stop trying to pretend to be able to read Notch's mind. You don't seem very good at it, to me.
To be fair he is correct that they were intended to work the old way. Jens said on Twitter that the change was being made because he was giving in to populism.
So yea, they may have been originally intended to work the other way, but this thread isn't really necessary since it seems this change was made because so many people wanted it (which implies that more people want it than don't, no matter what this petition or poll says).
This thread might as well be locked. The repeater update is confirmed and today Jens also confirmed that there will be no new additions to redstone circuitry, so there's no chance of this being a different block or of them putting in a block that functions the way repeaters do now.

srsly.
Just like the old minecart boosters: don't get your heart set on a glitch, to the point you're upset when the glitch is fixed.

Don't upgrade.
Was this thread neccasary?

The wires on the input side will connect to the repeaters. The wires on the output side will not.
Now just to get Jens to add this.....
Oh great, I spelled propulsion wrong.
