I've seen a lot of threads trying to compare Minecraft and Terraria, or decide which one is better. You know what? Niether of them is better. They are TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAMES. The only similarity is that you can build things and craft things.
Minecraft is a 3d game. It is more of a building game than anything. If you think it lacks features, your just playing the wrong game. You build things in minecraft, it doesn't need more mobs or anything else to be a building game.
Terraria is a 2d game. It is not a building game. You can build, but this is not the main feature as it is in minecraft. There are more mobs and features because it is a different type of game.
There is no point in trying to decide which is better, because they are not meant to be compared. Minecraft is a building game foremost, and Terraria is a game where you can do similar things, but building is not the focus. They are not competing with each other. So don't try to compare them when there is nothing to compare.
There is no point in trying to decide which is better, because they are not meant to be compared.

So, it's Terraria > Minecraft in your opinion? I'm okay with this.
Wow, you're dense...
OT: I absolutely agree. I'm really astonished by the sheer amount of people accusing Terraria of being a ripoff. Beyond being sort of "blocky", crafting items, and a few other superficial similarities, the two are completely different.
It's like comparing apples and oranges. Sure, they're both fruit and have a few similarities, yet you can't compare them or say one is better than the other. And at the end of the day, they're both still delicious.
I look forward to enjoying both games in the future, and so's Notch. Case closed.
And frankly, even if you DID compare them, (which you shouldnt), you'd have to take into consideration the fact that a 2d game can support way more features WAY FASTER, because in general the physics of the system are simple. So yeah, this game will have more features, but minecraft makes up for that by being a FULLY RENDERED THREE-DIMENSIONAL ENVIRONMENT. Which basically brings it to about even. Terraria is FORCED to have more content to make up for the general downside of being a side-scroller.

What's wrong with 2D? Nothing about minecraft being 3d means it couldn't have as many features, they just haven't been done.
Did you even read the thread? His whole point is that neither is "better" because they are two games with entierly different focuses.
there are going to be a lot of hardcore minecrafters out there who are going to say stuff like,"it's a rip off of minecraft!" no it is not, though they do look simaler, but terraira has a lot more fighting then minecraft.
There is no point in trying to decide which is better
I agree that they are two different games. However to say that they are equal games then your mistaken. They may be different but that dose not make them equal by any means. As someone who owns both Minecraft and Terraria, I would have to say I'm very disappointed with the latter of the two. Terraria is a boring terrible game and I honestly want my money back. I know this thread was so you can express the fact that you are sick of people comparing the game and I agree. However to conclude that because they are different that they are equal is just as obnoxious.
I have been playing the crap out of Terraria today. It's no Minecraft clone. That's just a knee-jerk reaction to anything that bears any resemblance of another game (such as the endless supposed WoW clones out there).
Of course you can compare them. You can compare anything. You can compare an apple to a butterfly. Of course, the results of such comparisons are often very opinionated because there's no numerical scale with which to compare them... as is the case with these two games.
I honestly have no idea if what I just typed makes any sense, but it sounded good in my head. Anyway, to me it's easy. Terraria > Minecraft. Well actually, I'm so disappointed in MC and the fact that it's going NOWHERE that just the fact that Terraria is finished makes it better than Minecraft.
(And no, I'm not complaining that Minecraft isn't finished, I'm just saying that Mojang really hasn't made any important progress on the game in ages while Terraria was fully completed in (according to Terraria.org) about half a year.)
Terraria is nowhere near as replayable as minecraft. Once you've played a couple maps through it becomes...meh. It's more of an action game with mining and building elements than a minecraft clone. Minecraft is by far more about the building, and is far more replayable just due to the creativity.
It's like comparing Legos to Street Fighter if Street Fighter had a small crafting system put in it. It's still about the fighting, and in the end...that gets old.

I felt happy when I played terraria for the first time...felt like I did when I played minecraft for the first time. Then I jumped into a lake and drowned :sad.gif:

I can't understand the fanboyism.
Minecraft: Building and crafting focus with a semi-realistic take on things.
Terraria: Exploration and combat focused with RPG/fantasy elements.
