I am in the Nether and have no f**king idea where my portal is, is there anything i can do? I have no items other than a diamond pickaxe, a diamond sword and various Nether blocks. Help is hugely appreciated. :smile.gif:
Download INVedit (viewtopic.php?t=15921) and hack in yourself some obsidian and a flint and steel, so you can make another portal and get the heck out of there :smile.gif:
Build a obvious landmark out of blocks, open up the program, click the Nether button, and use it to locate your landmark and its orientation to the portal.
If you built your portal in the overworld somewhere in the general vicinity of your spawn, your Nether portal probably isn't too far from the zero point. Press F3 to see your X, Y, and Z coordinates on the left side of the screen, and move to the point where the X and Z (not Y) coordinates are 0. Your portal is likely to be near there.
you could also open your save game in MCedit...well then again I'm not sure MCedit can edit the Nether. I was going to suggest moving the block that represents you to the surface.
I would use InvEdit to get me some obsidian and flint and steel, but then again, you are lost in the upperworld.
Memorize your items, commit suicide, InvEdit your items back and pretend nothing happened?
Well, that memorize part is what I think is a good idea. But in my opinion. I think I would just use MCedit and try to look around and find out where the portal is and then walk my guy over to it. Or I would just find the portal and bring my guy over to it.
Wow, thats tough...
I suppose you could navigate to X:0 Y:0 Z:0. I think thats where your portal is, but I haven't tested it...
If all else fails, use INVedit to get some obsidian and portal out of there.

See, this is one of the reasons I speak up for the TooManyItems mod and why it's not just about giving yourself a million diamonds.
It has 7 inventory save slots. If you are in a situation like this and you can't figure out a solution and it's ruining your whole day (and playing a game is supposed to be challenging, yes, but also it's supposed to be fun,) you can just save your inventory status, die to the surface, and load your inventory state back from the saveslot and proceed with the having fun part.
I'd also justify it for cases where...say your STUPID wolf pet pushed you off a cliff and you can't get your stuff back. That to me would be a case where the game just screwed you since they couldn't be troubled to give wolves proper pathing around you.

killing yourself will restart the whole server - don't kill yourself!

hmmm...
sorry social life, it's time for us to part, meet new people, i hope you understand,
we've had a good run, i just wan't you to know, it's not you, it's me.
press F3, Write down your X and Z coordinates, And Y if you feel like it, (Y is height). After you write those down kill yourself in that spot. Upon returning to the overworld immediately go back to the nether. When you get to the nether, press F3 and look at your coordinates, then walk in the right direction until you find your stuff. If you get there in under 5 minutes it should all still be there.
For future referance, write down the coordinates of your portal so you can always find your way back.
If you don't like using your coordinates then leave a trail of cobble stone when in the nether
The admitting defeat like a wuss option:
Turn on peaceful then search the nether leaving a trail of netherrack structures behind you. Mark where you are, then walk straight in one direction leaving a trail, then walk straight back, then pick another direction and try the same, createing a search grid around your current location, Expand grid until portal is found.
sucks though, you'll lose your items
