The achievements make a fine tutorial for players who have no idea what they're doing.
However. It's annoying as all hell to someone who's been playing for the better part of a year, and don't need to be treated like newb. If we absolutely MUST have this (garish) addition to the gui. can we atleast have the option to turn them off if we don't need the 'help'?
The achievement system is rather invasive, and I'd like to be able to turn the popup notices off.
Invasive? PLEASE explain to me how the popups effect your gameplay. It's just a small message that comes up in the corner of the screen for a few seconds. Your really whining about that?
Totally agree with OP, an off-button for achievements is needed. Maybe not now but if they add a bunch more and it continues to be basically a tutorial to tell you how things are done.
(Sad to see some people can't discuss another poster's opinions without resorting to insults and abuse.)
They pop up once.
Once!
And then you NEVER have to see them again. Get over it.
3 direct insults, and the rest is just passive aggression. What the **** is wrong with you people?
+1 to OP, since i dont care much about the achievments either.
As has been noted, it only shows up for a few seconds; and each achievement only shows up once. The only known bug to my understanding is when you play multiplayer without having played singleplayer with 1.5 and it shows the "press I" text.
The off button is already in the game. It's called do the achievements and they won't ever pop up again. OFF!
I like them. I'm hoping that people can mod off of this and create mini-games or whatnot. It obviously has the ability to detect specific gameplays (riding a pig off a cliff??)
I thought the only invasive thing was the first achievement. It tells you to press I for inventory, but that's their way of introducing the game.
Remember we are in Beta and when the full version comes out, the gamer might not have watched 10 youtube newbie videos to get them started like most of us have.

Of course, that's not the issue discussed here. No one is saying get rid of achievements all together. It could well be a great tutorial for newcomers when it's finished.
It is about giving us who have seen 10+ videos and played the game for maybe a year or more THE OPTION of not having popups congratulating us for crafting a pickaxe or killing a cow.
It would be nice if the achievements weren't interconnected. So you didn't have to craft a wooden sword just to get the mob killing achievement. :smile.gif: Of course, de ability to turn them off could be nice too, if you need that sort of thing.
On the OP, I don't think statistics are stupid. :smile.gif:

Why did they have to invade yet ANOther one of my beloved games?
Please provide an option to turn them off.
