Heres a thread I made that Includes all the tweets/blog posts that Notch has done so far
"We’ve been working on finishing up Achievements and Statistics for 1.5, I ran into some issues with JSON, got frustrated, and added weather instead. Developing new features like that is what I enjoy doing the most, so I ended up covering a lot of ground. There’s periodic downfall (snow in snowy areas, rain in others, nothing in deserts) that make the sky darker, hides the sun, moon and stars, and makes everything wet. Ice grows back in cold regions, and snowfall covers the ground when it’s snowing. During rain/snow, there can be occasional thunderstorms with lightning. I haven’t finished the actual lightning bolt yet, but everything else is fairly done.
Once the stats are done and the weather has been tested through, we’ll release 1.5. I’m guessing this will be next week. The piston mod might get added, but it will not be in time for 1.5."
"Here's a crazy idea.. How about having weapons deal +1 damage if the player is moving downwards when you attack?"
"And sneaking and/or moving backwards could protect from damage a bit as well."
"Woo, stats get saved to and loaded from disk now! Next step: save them online! Then we'll be DONE with the stats for 1.5. But first, dinner!"
"Herobrine is still not real, and I added an option to 1.5 to turn on occlusion culling. Most computers can handle it, and it helps a lot"
"Synching stats over multiplayer: 30 minutes of work. I was sure that would've been at least three hours."
" We were aiming at releasing 1.5 this week, but no. There’s been significant feature creep (we’ve got powered rails now, and lightning hitting a pig will turn it into a zombie pigman), so we don’t have time to get it out this week."
Basically he said
- Adding weather
- Finishing up achievements
- you do additional +1 damage if players are moving downward and attack
- working on lighting bolt
- Set release date for Minecraft as a game
- sneaking/moving backwards protects you from a bit of damage
- soon to add piston mod
- Birch and Spruce saplings are also implemented to the game
- Stats get saved onto loading disc, but soon to be saved online
- Option to turn on occlusion calling
- Added stats onto multiplayer
- Lightning hits a pig = Pigmen
- Powered rails (possibly)
- Release date is soon to come
- Cannot climb in ladder gaps
- Fixed the Texture on the side of grass
- Particles appear around feet when walking through snow
Possibly/soon to come In further update
- rain waters crops
- snow can kill crops
- rain fills up holes
- fix on wolf textures
- fix with some wolf glitches
- you gain 2 ladders instead of 1 when crafting
Glad to hear more features are being added, I don't play multiplayer which is said to have the most amount of bugs, and I've never encountered any significant bugs in singleplayer.
"Here's a crazy idea.. How about having weapons deal +1 damage if the player is moving downwards when you attack?"

- you do additional +1 damage to enemies if you are falling and attack

Actually, based on what you have in quotes means the opposite of what you have summarized. If player is moving downward...and you attack them. You deal +1 damage. Also it specifically mentions a "player." Enemies is to general of a term, misleading people to think it involves zombies/skeletons and the such.
It should read
"- you do additional +1 damage to other players if they are falling and you attack"
Not bad so far. Weather sounds like it should make things a little more interesting and whenever the piston mod is legitly added it'll just be one less toy to install with every new update (even though I've never even used it yet)
Kinda indifferent to the update otherwise since it sounds like it's gonna be a small one. Achievements and statistics I could care less about either way. Well, achievements might be fun depending. Statistics the only thing I'm mildly curious about is how much dirt have I actually moved since I have so many chests loaded with the stuff.
I'm actually looking forward to some snow. I've got a base set up in this mountain in a snowy area and while hollowing out the mountain to make tunnels and rooms, I had to set up a temp base on the top. Now I've taken it down and started moving things into the mountain but now I've got a giant grassy spot in the middle of my beautiful snow field. Here's hoping in 1.5 that'll be cleared up. ^^

You hear those sounds (SSP only) when near a cave or other places with no light.
Those creep me out.
Back to the topic though.
Not sure if Piston Mod will be out for 1.5, but there's definitely a lot of work starting to go into acquiring it.
And I think it'll be awesome/add some more complexity to the game (in regards to building for defensive purposes or fun.)
found a video of it, but it doesnt actually show the snow/rain in effect just when the update is to be released and the video is just a picture that apparently notch has posted, dunno though anyone wanna help me verify this?
Awesome, I can't wait for the return of weather. :tongue.gif: Anyone else notice at 2:14 in the video, it says "Distance Flown"? PRETTY sure we can't fly in mincraft.. YET.
Hope he finds a solution to the whole biome border weather like he mentioned on Twitter the other day... that doesn't look quite right but overall quite excited for this.
The next time an authority asks me, "What could possibly have given you such a lack of respect for the value of human life?" I will respond, "Sir, have you even BEEN to the internet?"

Notch is uploading a video of the weather :3
/offtopic am I the only one that's been hearing odd, gasping sounds when near a cave? I'm a bit freaked out!
Those creep me out.
