I am trying to make a simple circuit that opens a door. I want the circuit to be below ground so its out of sight so I need to put a redstone torch under the door block. Ive done that but it makes the door stay open I have been trying to get the torch to turn on and off but I haven't been able to get it too work
I have tried things like putting switchs and pressure pads next to the torch and activate them to see if that turned them off and it did not. any advice would be nice. I Have been able to make another version that opens and closes doors using a repeater block but that but I don't want to use up that much resources every time I make a door circuit.
Redstone torches are by default 'on'. In order to turn them off, you need to have them adjacent to a lever, switch, pressure plate, etc, in example:
Where is your switch and is your redstone torch. Flipping the switch to the "on" position will direct power to the block; negating that from the torch, turning it off. Make sure they are on the same block.
I would advise you to merely invert its signal with a not gate but you might not know what I mean and I would have difficulty explaining without diagrams.
Essentialy if a torch is placed on the sides or top of a block that's being powered that torch will have its state turned to off.

So, from the side, if you have
Where the chests are doors and the flower is a Redstone Torch, then you need to do this:
