To all the people who are saying “Go make your own minecraft” someone actually did using c++ until all the fan boys started moaning because that excuse became void, now that the projects dead there starting to use that same excuse again… The moral is don’t say something that your going to take back later when someone actually does what you say.
Wow, so hard to make "your own Minecraft" when you don't have to come up with any of the ideas on your own, and you have the MC source code right in front of you to simply port over.
well not nocking notch, the games great. but i mean the original minecraft was a building game with blocks, like legos... then he added the survival mode witch as far as i know is completly his idea. However, the feadback forum is flowing with ideas that notch does in fact use. So when you say they don't have to come up with ideas on their own, notch had a lot of contributions to his ideas as well, it's called insperation :smile.gif:
edit*: Not to mention while listening to a notch interview he talks about what games inspired him, one being a game called infiniminer, which looks very very similar to minecraft.

When I hint that someone should make their own minecraft, that's actually my point right there. It's a lot harder than it sounds, and nobody appreciates you when you try.

This forum ticked me off so much I went to random.org and set my password to something I'll never be able to remember, then switched my password reset to a throwaway.
However, the feadback forum is flowing with ideas that notch does in fact use. So when you say they don't have to come up with ideas on their own, notch had a lot of contributions to his ideas as well, it's called insperation :smile.gif:
He still has to make the executive decision on which ideas would be good for the game (make it successful) and which wouldn't.

it was stated in a kind of way that Notch came up with the game completly free of any ideas except his own, that's not true. But i don't see how hard it is to pick which suggestions will be successfull, if you look in the feedback forum theres topics that are talked about and wanted more then the others so those are the obvious choice?

You realize that Manic Digger was pretty much ripping Notch's netcode to be able to connect to classic servers, right? Plus it was an open-source project so it had a lot more people working on it, yet it still didn't get past the point Notch pushed Classic/Indev/Infdev/Alpha to by himself?
How can you even type with such low intelligence?
Also, lol@op who thinks hijacking engine classes is the same as implementing them.

Easier said than done. If it were that easy, all indie developers would be multi-millionaires.
I think Notch should just hire a few of them, especially Dr. Zhark for his Mo Creatures. Seriously he's probably made enough money off those of us that have legitimately bought the game to do it.
...Notch, on the other hand, who has an entire office full of programmers, artists, marketers...
Wait, when did he hire people? He works only with 3 other people. One music artist, A lawyer, and a web developer. However, modders are modders. Multiple people. Tons of people. Each person makes ONE thing. They did not make the game. Know your stuff before posting.

He hired people when he formed his company back in November. Nor was MiningCrafts saying the marketers/businesspeople worked on Minecraft itself. Secure your leg before your kneejerk fanboy reaction smacks you in the face.

i kind of feel like it was luck in how he got his millions, i mean the game is good but not incredibly incredible, he found his idea from infinieminer and expanded a little and then put it on sale, it was people spreading the game not his legendary talent bringing people to the game. I mean don't get me wrong im glad to see an indie developer get somewhere in the gaming industry, i think it's just that now that he has he kind of isn't working so hard on the game any longer. as you said he had millions of dollers why does he NEED to work on it?
Please remember, there are way more people making mods then people making the official game :smile.gif: Although I do agree that he needs a way to implement the mods better. Possibly have a few become actual parts of the game!
*sigh*
Se it like this
Notch and his team of 7 is equipped with machineguns riding in tanks and the modders are 100(YES THEY ARE ****ING LESS THAN 100) people equipped with knifes and both are trying to kill each other. And there is a chasm between them.
So who dies?
and according to you minecraft has hit 100 million users?
It has not even reached 1 million yet.And even if it had not all of the community are modders.
Modders have actually kicked ass in this battle even without modding support for the real game.
They are not paid for their stuff and sometimes don't even have correct tools to make their life easier.
And before you people go all "MAKE YOUR OWN MINECRAFT" I believe another minecraft has already been made(Manic digger) but the community got all ****tarded because they were proved wrong.
Sorry to burst your bubble here OP, but I'm pretty sure Notch knew or was even expecting people to come out with their own mods. It's not like it's a surprise, Notch made the game how he wanted and made the base of it. Regardless of if he wanted people to or not he couldn't stop anyone from moding the game how they want. That's like giving someone a new computer and expecting them not to customize the theme color and wallpaper. Especially since it's open source it's not surprising that more users have custom skins and stuff than what is already offered to boot. Notch is probably just more concerned about bugs and what's under the hood than some chump change like texture packs. Let's see you make Minecraft run better on your own instead of just simply making it look nicer.

I guess you can call releasing Java software automatically making your code "open source"....?

100,000,000 Modders ?

He did use some ideas but he didn't copy the game completely.

Troll.
That is all.
I am patient, I'll wait for the updates. Notch may be going slow with updates now, but what about later? If the problem is with Notch being lazy or not, who are we to criticize laziness, it's human nature. I doubt he'll let the game flop, since the game is nominated for GOTY (UK) and has been mentioned in many other gamer magazines.
I love this game, and I barely get a chance to play because my damn computer is too old (Think Windows '98, except updated to XP SP3)
That's not a nomination. They awarded Minecraft PC Gamer UK's Game of the Year status.
