You will get every update untill the full version is released if you bought it during beta.
You will get every update for as long as the game is developed if you bought it during alpha.
No one is being scammed, there has been no attempt to hide this fact.
Hurray for being one of the first 300,000 to purchase!

i am kind of mad abot this beacase i boght it 1 day before alpha so notch shold really freaking switch this or at least post why hes doing it pls we had 2 pay more money!!!!!
Holy **** man. If you type like this you are way too young to be handling money in internet transfers! I mean really, the FULL keyboard is accessable to you here, no need to shorthand things and leave out valuable letters and puncuation. Also, how do you buy it one day before alpha. I'm sure you meant beta but for crying out loud man. (spelling is bad, too lazy to spellcheck, havn't slept yet 8 am.)

I bet you mojang is gonna want to suck more money out of the players, and make expansion like new gametypes like $5 each, and give it to alpha players free and say *the payed less, so its fair*.

Bought during beta... and I have no problem.
After all, Notch gave himself the OPTION to charge. He did NOT say "And I will charge 50 Dollars for every coming expansion, whoahahahaha!".
All he did was say "When the game is released and we spent months of work on that huge update, we now have the option to charge some money for that", wich IS sensible... after all, mojang will need funds for continuing developement, and cannot run PURELY on new sales!
Would have been nice to have bought during alpha now, but so what? I am willing to trust Mojang and Notch to keep prices at a sensible level.
Also, as things are it seems player-mods will be allowed, and he WILL continue releasing bugfixes for free.
So, where exactly is the problem? As I see it, Minecraft is still fairly priced and licensed...
Layna
PS: if he DID overcharge... how long do you think Mojang and minecraft woudl last after that?
I bet you if that happens, alpha players are gonaa gloat they payed less and got more, and tell the beta pklayers that they are useless in minecraft.

I don't actually play the game much but I have to answer this. This is my interpretation on what will happen:
Alpha players will get all updates, bug fixes for free forever. DLC will be for free up until the full game is released
-----
Beta players get all updates and bug fixes forever...Any DLC created between then will not be free.
-----
People who buy the game when it is officially released will get all updates and bug fixes forever. DLC will not be free like beta buyers.
This is, however, if DLC is ever released. DLC would be stuff like awesomely cool blocks and mobs and different game modes and maybe even clothing . Updates would be little things like small blocks and minor things added.
I don't like at all that they've separated the pay tiers. I may just skip the expansions, didn't realize I would be nickeled and dimed for paying more money already getting it later... I see what Notch was thinking but at the same time as rewarding loyalty, it punishes other people which is not a win-win situation for him.
Lord, do people get this bent out of shape when they miss a sale? This really isn't any different than walking into best buy and buying a ps3 on sale with a free 1 year warranty and 2 free games. If you were paying attention/have money you get the sale and free stuff, if you weren't you get it at full price with no extras.
Wow, I feel really bad that all of the "Beta Bums" got scammed so hard. That's atrocious. Terrible. We should get all future Minecraft games completely free; we deserve them even more than the alpha buyers since we payed a GINORMOUS amount of extra cash for the game!
Now, please excuse me. I have to go down to the grocery store and throw a screaming fit at the cashier because I missed their BUY ONE GET ONE FREE sale on lima beans by only one week! I didn't even know they were having that sale until three days ago when my neighbor told me about it!!!!!! If I don't get my free can of lima beans I'm going to chuck a can at the managers head. I might even contact my lawyer. After all, I have the store's club card and I already bought a can of lima beans there; I should get free lima beans for LIFE. Next time, I'm not buying them! I'll just back my hick truck through the front of their window and steal all the lima beans I want. I DESERVE free lima beans - I visited their store during their grand opening sale two years ago!!!!
Sarcasm aside, I purchased the game during beta. At about $20, the game could remain in it's current, unreleased, version and I'd STILL consider it a good deal. The fact that for $20, I will eventually get an even more polished version of the game with the full release version content as well as the normal free bug fixes is just icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. And if it so happens that Mojang produces expansions in the future, I'll be more than happy to purchase them.
I'm not sure how people are laboring under so many ridiculous misconceptions. If you are uncertain of the facts... which is more logical? Search out the correct information from trusted sources before jumping to conclusions? Or to run screaming to the forums like immature twits, making claims of being scammed and threatening theft of the game down the road?
the discussion right now is alpha>beta elitism?
not everyone here will precisely do that...
if it is about account confusions, i will tell, the information i have recollected, which tells how i feel this alpha/beta thing...
Alpha > beta > full game > minor fixes > major fixes > exp packs > addons
Beta > beta > full game > minor fixes > major fixes <HAS TO BUY/MAY GET> exp packs > addons
Full game > minor fixes > major fixes <HAS TO BUY> exp packs > addons
alpha: bigger discount, exp packs and addons, everything for free for life
beta: discount, MAY GET exp packs and addons, or they will have to buy them*, everything else is surely free
full game: only gets the fixes for free, any new exp pack or addon will be charged to them if mojang chooses to do it
(*: notch wants beta users to get things free, but the lawyers forced him (it "scares" the board) to change those lines on the preordering part when switching to beta)
Someone told me if you bought Minecraft Beta, you are not paying for every future update, but if you bought it during Alpha, you paid for every future update. Is this true?
ITT: people think they won't get the full game they payed more for.
People. Whoever has told you you are being scammed do not beleive them. You have essentially pre-ordered a game in development. And like other games in development you may be one of the lucky few who gets to play the unfinished product. In Minecraft's case the game is available to everybody for a one time fee. You will NEVER have to pay again unlike some scummy MMO's that want you to put real money in to experience the full fun.
You have payed your 10 Euro, and you will never have to pay anything again no matter how many updates are made you get them all FREE. Now shut up and stop stirring ****.
That post applies for alpha people only.
Mojang will probably want to milk the beta players for cash, and release new stuff after release and charge for it.
Mojand probably will, not

Have you seen any evidence that Notch/Mojang are money grubbers? I've seen evidence against that, namely in their discussions on how to combat piracy.
Listen, we know you're butthurt about not buying in Alpha, but you're not going to have money drained out of your bank. And even if Mojang decide to start releasing hundred-euro DLCs, nobody is forcing you to buy them. Complain with your wallet.
Especially if there is modding API, charging for DLC would be completely ineffective. It would be way too easy to get it for free without some universal authentication system, which is definitely not in place (think Steam or Ubisoft's uPlay)
Beta Buyers-
1. Get all updates up till the full release
2. Get all bug fixes for free before and after the final release
3. Have to pay for expansions
4. Have to pay for stuff like Minecraft 2(if theres ever gonna come out)
Alpha Buyers-
1. Get all updates up till the full release
2. Get all bug fixes for free before and after the final release
3. Don't have to pay for expansions
4. Have to pay for stuff like Minecraft 2(if theres ever gonna come out)
And for all that think this is unfair, it is in fact fair. The money that came into continuing minecraft beta and beyond CAME FROM ALPHA BUYERS. If alpha users didn't have to pay, than it wouldn't have been possible for notch to continue beta.
All this talk of Alpha's and Beta's is reminding me of Aldous Huxley. Let's stop now.
Seriously, you can't honestly be getting bent out of shape over this. Nobody gives out free expansions to everyone. Nobody. Notch was nice enough to offer that as a plus to those who helped him out in the earliest stages of development. It's basic logic, come on now...

your posts in this thread make me think you're trying to troll...but you're so bad at it than I'm not even sure anymore.
