If your searching for glasses compatible with the anaglyph mode, want them quick, easy and local and not having luck you might be interested in where I found my pairs. After checking several stores for DVD/BR's with red-cyan glasses with no luck I decided to check the childrens book section, where I found at least 7 titles between 3.99 and 11.99 with proper R-C 3D glasses.
Both places I've checked at this point (Wal-mart, Michaels Crafts) have had multiple books in stock. The best quality I've found so far for Minecrafts anaglyph mode is the glasses packaged with Discovery Childrens <tm> glossy magazine/books, which include books on wildlife, sciences etc.
All that said, when properly viewed it looks amazing. The game takes on a whole new life and everyone I've let play in 3D has gone on to buy the game and a pair of glasses. :smile.gif:
No luck here at Walmart (SW Las Vegas). Searching Walmart online comes up with nothing either, but that wasn't really indicative. What was surprising was not only the lack of 3D children's books (in the Toys section), but also the utter lack of 3D movies (except Ice Age 3D, with its magenta-green glasses advertised on the case). It's like 3D just went out of style, or something. I couldn't even find Shrek 3D or Final Destination 3D anywhere (two other 3D DVDs with positive results on the forum).
Also, the Discovery Kids books you mentioned -- do you mean something like http://www.amazon.com/Thrillers-Solar-S ... 0525464697 ? I can't find hide nor hair of those online except used, like they've been out of print for years.
There's a Michael's just down the street from me, I'll have to check them out. Wish me luck! Otherwise I'm going to have to order some online, which isn't so bad, but I'm so very impatient for something new in Minecraft after the missed update last week. =)
I bought these off of amazon. They work pretty good, but I think the red could use a lil' tweaking. I'm hoping notch lets us adjust the filter colors soon. It does really add something to the game though!
I did mine using blue and red celophane...
Then I found some plastic glasses with cyan lenses, and I changed one lens to red...
Well, I dunno if it's right because I just gives me headaches when I play with anaglyph on...
Can someone tell me what's the big difference?
Registered to say the Discovery Kids glasses do indeed work great - it's a really different experience playing in "true" 3D. Definitely better in the daytime out in the open landscape than in caves or at night, though, because the effect is much more profound and enjoyable when looking out over the world than up close.

I tried a pair from Amazon as well (not those ones, but similar) and honestly the Discovery Kids ones are 100x better. There's no color bleed between the red and blue like there was with the plastic pair, and very minimal ghosting. If you have a way to find one of these workbooks, it's worth the price.

They are very much like those books - the Discovery Kids label is the same - but they don't say "3D Thrillers!" on them, instead having a big "Amazing New 3-D!" label on the upper-right. I had success at Michael's in Pittsburgh, so clearly it's something they carry as a chain. The one I got was "Animal Survivors", there was also a dinosaur one and I think something else. None of them had price tags but mine ran up to about $6.
Thanks again to fullautomagic for pointing us in the right direction. For the price, this is absolutely an experience worth checking out. :smile.gif:
Thanks for the info - I'll check out Michael's tomorrow.
Also, regarding headaches -- some people just can't do 3D without discomfort, but my understanding is that good glasses help. My understanding from reading around is that if you've got a lot of color bleed-through on a lens (e.g. homemade cellophanes, cheap glasses) then you'll tend to get ghosted/blurry images that aggravate your brain and eyes.
Did you try these?
I too was looking at dealextreme but after others talking about quality of glasses i'd like to know if you just googled this or actually tried them. :smile.gif:
I wear glasses (surprise!) and so I took an old pair and used red and blue sharpie on them. The blue worked like a charm! But the red, not so well. I still see a lot of the red stuff with the red lens.
I really hope I can find a good colored marker to use! It'd be great having a prescription pair of 3d glasses!
get yourself some sharpies! I find the red & turquoise chisel tip flavors to be the most effective. isopropyl alcohol is also a must. oh, a pair of safety glasses.

I also really want to be able to change the colors... That would be awesome.

I could repeat everything I said two posts up, I guess, but it might be easier if you just scrolled up and read it. :wink.gif:
